Review Summary

I purchased this filter after seeing great reviews for it on Youtube, it was consistently rated better than the more expensive filters, it was not until after the purchase that I noted in a couple of reviews that these filters although excellent are somewhat fragile, in one review it was recommended that the filter only be used in studio settings. I am still happy with the purchase, I am a still photographer that uses these filters in landscape photography often in somewhat harsh environments, mountain streams and waterfalls. Because I use this with Canon wide angle lenses I had purchased 105mm filters to go on lenses with 77mm filter threads using a step up ring to avoid vignetting, to solve the fragility problem I purchased somewhat inexpensive 105mm UV filters to protect the ND filters from the elements, I also purchased lens caps because Sigma makes a great lens cap for about $10 that fits the filters perfectly. I use a rear UV filter to further protect when not in use.

Where professional cinematography meets advanced technology, the Tokina 127mm PRO IRND 0.6 Filter - 2 Stops stands out as a high-quality, durable, and effective solution for controlling light exposure and eliminating infrared pollution. This filter is a must-have for users of high-end cinema cameras, which often lack built-in low-pass or IR cut filters to mimic the human eye's sensitivity to light.
The Tokina PRO IRND filter, designed with the innovative Accu-ND Technology by the development team at Kenko Tokina, offers a unique solution to the challenges of maintaining exposure and color fidelity. It precisely controls the amount of light entering the lens without affecting color, stabilizing the transmittance of color throughout the visible spectrum. This feature eliminates the need for continual white balance adjustments during a shoot and post-shoot color corrections, making it a reliable and versatile tool for photographers and videographers.
Available in both round and square/rectangular styles, this filter is crafted with an ND vapor deposition coating. The round PRO IRND filter features this coating on both sides of the glass, ensuring high precision and true neutrality. The square/rectangular filter, on the other hand, has the coating sandwiched between two layers of glass, allowing for re-polishing in case of scratches and extending the filter's lifespan.
Unlike other IRND filters that cut the near infrared from a particular wavelength, the Tokina PRO IRND filter uses suppression to eliminate infrared pollution up to 1200nm. This method, while equally effective, avoids the unwanted color shifts often associated with the cutting process.
In conclusion, the Tokina 127mm PRO IRND 0.6 Filter - 2 Stops is a testament to Tokina's commitment to producing high-quality, effective, and reliable photography equipment. It's an essential tool for any professional looking to enhance their control over exposure and depth of field in low light conditions.
