Review Summary
4x5.65
1/2
Over the years, Tokina has established itself as a trusted brand in the world of photography, offering innovative and high-quality equipment. One such product is the Cinema 4x5.65 Black Alchemy Diffusion Filter, a professional-grade tool designed to enhance your photographic creativity. This 1/2 strength diffusion filter is a fusion of the Black Supermist 1/8 and a variable strength SoftRes filter, providing you with the flexibility to control the level of diffusion in your images.
The Black Alchemy Diffusion Filter is expertly engineered to subtly affect resolution and contrast, adding a gentle boost of halation to light sources. It works by reducing high-frequency details such as wrinkles and skin blemishes, while slightly raising black levels and adding a halation bloom to light sources. This results in a pleasing, dreamy effect, perfect for creating ethereal or dramatic scenes.
Constructed with fine black and white color particulate bonded between two pieces of Schott B270 Optical Glass, the Black Alchemy Diffusion Filter exceeds 4K resolution capability. The particulate varies in size, slightly smaller to slightly larger than a pixel, to alter incoming light and create a pleasing reduction in resolution and a slight increase in contrast with bloom to highlights.
The Cinema 4x5.65 Black Alchemy Diffusion Filter is available in various strengths, including 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, and 1. The 1/2 and 1 strengths are particularly suited for creating strong dramatic effects or dream sequence type scenes.
Tokina Cinema Diffusion Filters are designed to give you creative control of your image in-camera. They allow you to reduce high-frequency resolution, raise black levels, bloom highlights, or tailor a combination that is unique to your scene. All diffusion filters affect three areas of your image; Contrast, Halation, and Resolution.
Tokina Cinema has analyzed data from thousands of feature films, commercials, TV shows, and independent productions to develop the most relevant optical diffusion combinations being used today. This data has been distilled into four basic filter types that replicate the vast majority of in-camera diffusion today. With the Cinema 4x5.65 Black Alchemy Diffusion Filter, you can isolate the image attributes you want for creative control with confidence.
