Review Summary

I purchased this filter after seeing great reviews for it on Youtube, it was consistently rated better than the more expensive filters, it was not until after the purchase that I noted in a couple of reviews that these filters although excellent are somewhat fragile, in one review it was recommended that the filter only be used in studio settings. I am still happy with the purchase, I am a still photographer that uses these filters in landscape photography often in somewhat harsh environments, mountain streams and waterfalls. Because I use this with Canon wide angle lenses I had purchased 105mm filters to go on lenses with 77mm filter threads using a step up ring to avoid vignetting, to solve the fragility problem I purchased somewhat inexpensive 105mm UV filters to protect the ND filters from the elements, I also purchased lens caps because Sigma makes a great lens cap for about $10 that fits the filters perfectly. I use a rear UV filter to further protect when not in use.

If you're a cinematographer seeking to capture the most accurate and vibrant images with your high-end cinema camera, the 95mm PRO IRND 0.6 Filter - 2 Stops is an essential tool. This advanced filter, developed by the expert team at Kenko Tokina, combines Infrared Neutral Density (IRND) and Neutral Density (ND) capabilities to control light exposure and eliminate infrared pollution, a common issue with sensitive cameras.
Unlike many cinema cameras that lack a built-in low-pass or IR cut filter, this Tokina PRO IRND filter is designed to mimic the human eye, capturing as much data as possible from the image subject. However, it goes a step further by maintaining the perfect balance of light exposure, even when using a stronger ND filter. This innovative feature helps to prevent the infrared pollution that can occur with increased light sensitivity.
One of the standout features of this filter is its Accu-ND Technology. This groundbreaking technology ensures the filter precisely controls the amount of light entering the lens without affecting the color. It stabilizes the transmittance of color throughout the visible spectrum, eliminating the need for continual white balance adjustments during a shoot and color corrections in post-production.
The 95mm PRO IRND 0.6 Filter - 2 Stops is available in two styles: round and square/rectangular. The round filter features an ND vapor deposition coating on both sides of the glass, creating a high-precision, truly neutral filter. The square/rectangular filter, on the other hand, has an ND vapor deposition coating sandwiched between two layers of glass. This design allows for the filter to be re-polished if scratched, extending its lifespan.
Unlike other IRND filters that cut the near infrared from a particular wavelength, the Tokina PRO IRND filter uses suppression to control the infrared up to 1200nm. This method is less prone to producing unwanted color shifts, ensuring your images maintain their true color fidelity.
In summary, the 95mm PRO IRND 0.6 Filter - 2 Stops is a revolutionary tool for cinematographers, offering precise light control, infrared pollution prevention, and color stabilization.
