Questions & Answers

Shopper : can i copy programs from my cable companys dvr?WILLIAM B : I believe you can, but I have never tried it.HENRY F : I copy from my satellite DVR to this Toshiba. You need to have either a composite out or s-video out on your DVR. The Toshiba does NOT have an HDMI IN port, only composite or s-video in. To make sure you're actually recording, connect the Toshiba to your TV. So, the routing is DVR OUT-to-Toshiba IN-to-Toshiba OUT-to TV IN.KEVIN G : Not sure about this. It may have a block on your cable subscriber dvr, but I am able to record shows off of my cable box (which is a local provider, clear picture) so it may be possible, it may not. I would say check the user's manual online to see if you can do this. thanks.
Shopper : can you connect a camera with usb port and record?GEOFREY O : The DR430 records live Analog (red white yellow or S-Video+red white), to make a Digital DVD Disk (Mpeg2 + Dolby sound). It can ALSO make a DVD by TRANSFERING live DV (already digital video) from a DV Camera into the DV port . The USB port is only for playback of Music or PIctures. USB cables don't carry analog so you might be trying to hook up one of those USB capture devices, but you need a computer for that and it doesn't work a good as the DR430 way. I chose the 430 as my "analog capture device" and then later copy the DVDs into my computer, and then edit the mpg files there. It works great. You can even record in XP mode, to get lots more frames. Hope this helps.ANTHONY C : I like this device, it shows better pictures than all my rest DVD Players. As for the USB, I has never used it. I am sure it can play but I don't know about recording. It is all I know. Hope can help you.YU Z : I have not tried that yet.JANETTE B : I don't know for sure but it does have a USB input jack - "You can p lug your USB device here, and play back the contents in it.." Not sure what that means, however, do an internet search for a manual for this unit. I found one online but am not allowed to post the URL on this site. Good luck!MICHAEL B : I have never tried this, but I just looked at the user's manual and it seems you can only record from lines 1 or 2 and that the USB port is for playback only, not recording....
D S : Does this recorder have a digital tuner?JOHN H : I'm not sure because I only use it to record legal depositions from my camera. Don't use it for TV recording.JIM H : Sorry for my delayed response. No, it does not. It needs an external signal source to be connected to an input. I have my cable box connedted to the hdmi port and it works fine.VICTORIA L : nope - toshiba dr430 dvd recorder does not have a digital tunerJANETTE B : This recorder has no tuner.TODD B : No.JOHN M : this unit has no tuner. I wish it did.WILLIAM R. B : I have already submitted a reply on the warranty.STEPHEN M : No, it has no tuner.

Definitely serves its purpose

Very good product for recording our favorite shows and our nephews basketball games and interviews which was the main reason for getting it. Picture quality is good at SP setting. Would be a great product if capable of HDMI input but not bad for a discontinued product in a market that is basically dead in the USA.

Toshiba DR430 DVD Recorder

Used to time shift. Picture output in component mode dissapointing. Device does not reproduce Dolby 5.1 nor does it include a fiber optic digital audio output.

Bad Deal

Manuel or dealer does not mention it ONLY records what channel you are watching. My whole purppose was to record my missed shows on TV. I would not have bought this if I knew this fact. This fact needs to be included in the discription. Unsatisfied buyer!!

RECORDS STRAIGHT FROM THE DVR

THE MANUAL DOES NOT READ WELL, SO I HAVEN'T MADE IT THROUGH THE ENTIRE WAY. IT WAS EASY ENOUGH TO RECORD WHILE WATCHING WHAT IS RECORDING. NOT SURE IF THERE IS A FASTER WAY TO DO IT. SLEEK DESIGN. LOOKS GOOD.

Great Recorder!

The Toshiba dvd recorder was very easy to set up once you have a digital converter box by using the RCA jacks. Picture quality is excellent and operation is very simple once you read the manual. I only use +RW Blank dvds, You can reuse them numerious times and you don't need to finalise them to play on other dvd players. This is a great dvd recorder and it is pretty affordable.
