Questions & Answers

YANHUA M : Is it rainproof? And could it be opened by side?TAURUS R : The Tamrac 5587 7x is rainproof. It's bulky and doesn't have a side only zipper. Opening it from the side is not easy, fast or practical and will take some skill.MARC M : I never took the backpack out in the rain, so I cannot say if it's rainproof. I don't believe it can be opened from the side. I can say, however, that the quality and build is very high. It's comfortable, roomy, adjustable, and well worth the money.MARK M : I have been out in a light rain and everything kept dry, there is a flap that covers the zippers. The zippers, there are two, go around the entire compartment in a 'U' shape, but the only way to remove any thing is unzipping the entire compartment and opening it all the way.GERRY S : Yes, the zippers have a rubber seal which keeps out the rain. Though I have only had minor rain on mine, I think it is very safe - but, not waterproof.Very sturdy construction with lots of compartments. No, it cannot be opened on the side. It opens from the back, just as in the picture. Great bag - but, I tend to put in too much!RUTH D : I'm not sure if it's rainproof. I only use it to store my backup equipment in it and keep it in my closet. You have to open it all the way in order to access the equipment inside.ANGEL P : yes is rainproof, but it not be opened by side
ROBERT B : Has anybody had experience with carrying a Nikon 300mm f2.8 with body attached? Is there still room for a 70-200mm f2.8, a 24-70mm f2.8 and a 14-24mm f2.8? I'll still need to carry some flashes, but I believe I can put them in the accessory pockets. Thanks,BRIAN G : Yes I think you will be able to accommodate body and lenses in main pack. The accessory packs however are quite slim, I store filters in mine& space is tight. The main compartments are very versatile & changeable. Very comfortable to wear and zipper are waterproof! I love it!SHARON B : I was able to carry a D90 attached with a sigma 150-500mm. Still had room for Nikon 70-300mm f4-5.6,one Nikon 18-105mm f5-5.6, one 90mm f2.8 one 50mm f1.8 and one 10-20mm f4-5.6. All lenses could be carried attached and in their own spot with one lens always attached to camera body. My trip was outdoors no flash was needed, but plenty of room to work with and able to configure how i needed for all the equipment I took. Also worked great as my carry-on for air travel. Hope this helps. I love this bag and would purchase again.ROBERT B : Thanks, Gerry! Maybe the backwards heavy will be a good thing to offset my "frontwards heavy"!ROBERT B : Thanks, Marc. I guess my next step is to visit a large camera store in the Wash. DC area and do some test fitting. Luckily, there is a well-equipped store near my engineering office (which I rarely actually visit, but I will find some excuse to travel there soon!). Thanks for your response.ROBERT B : Thanks, Kevin. I currently carry the 300 in a hard Pelican case, but it doesn't make for a good hiking companion. Your response is appreciated.MARC M : You mention some very large lenses. While this backpack is built very well and has plenty of storage, I am not sure if can accomodate all of them. You may want to look at the next size in this excellent product line.KEVIN T : The 70-200 f2.8 and 24-70 will fit if you leave the 70-200 attached. The 300mm will be pretty tight. there are many options for partitions, but you may be better off with the 8x or 9x. The flashes are not likely to fit into the accessory pockets.GERRY S : I have a D7100, 80/200 2.8 Zoom (heavy and long), 14-24 Wide, etc... This back pack can carry a bunch of gear - almost too much when fully loaded. It is well made and the seals will keep out the moisture. Lots of pockets, etc.. and very comfortable harness system. My only compliant is that is is petty thick. When you add a tripod to the tripod mounts (pictured under the logo), weight is a little backwards heavy. I might try to use the holders under the back pack to carry a heavier tripod sideways... Hope this helps. I own two other Tamrac bags and like them all.
Shopper : it can be carryon on a plane?WILLIAM H : I have never tried to take it on a plane. It may be slightly too thick.JERRY S : I did take it on two flights, but it did not fit real well under the seat in front of me. I did not try it in the overheads because I wanted it near by. I never had the airlines turn me down or check it either in the carry on baggage check thing they have.MARK M : I do not know, I don't fly. It works very well for taking on the train.GERRY S : I do not know...but think it would fit in overhead. I would go to the Tarmac site and check for sure. It is well built and rugged. It is a little heavy with my large tripod strapped on back.LARRY G : Yes, just carried it on last week. Fits in overhead. Fasten the hip belt backward around the body of the pack to keep it out of the wayKEVIN T : Yes it can. with the belt tucked in it can fit in overhead binDOUGLAS M : I don't have experience carrying it on a plane, fully loaded the bag stands nearly as described 13 W x 13 D x 19 H so it would depend on your flights carry on restrictions. What I can say from experience, 6 mile day hikes in the Adirondacks of NY or the White Mountains of NH the bag is worth every penny.MCLELLAN J : Yes, you can carry it on plane and it will store in overhead compartment . Have done so on several flightsJAMES F : Yes, this can be a carry on bag and it is a tremendous bag for Camera, lenses and computer.

BIG, comfortable, carry clothes and cameras

This bag is BIG. It is VERY WELL MADE. I easily fit D750, three zooms and two high speed lenses, flash, recharger, batteries, etc. The bag is comfortable, with a lot of of the weight carried by my hips, Access is good, but you have to take bag off to get at stuff, which is okay with me. Lots of extra pockets, used only a few. so far. I fly a lot and this bag is great for travel. After putting in all the camera gear, I can still put in my 15" laptop, and 3 days of clothes (w/o jeans). It's a really really big bag. Downside-- the 7x is very deep and just barely fits in the luggage rack on a 727. Tight squeeze. And, most irritating, there are like 20 straps hanging out all over the place-- they are meant to strap things on the outside, but there is no way to get them out of the way or take them off if you are not using them. Also, the waist strap is not always needed--it's big and there should be a way to tuck it away or keep it from dangling. All in all I'm happy, but not in love with the 7x

Big - Good For Travel and Carry On

It's big so get used to turning about carefully in crowds and shops. Excellent padding/protection. No hassels with airline security. Considered personal baggage / carry on. Fits in aircraft overhead baggage compartments (just, when loaded). It holds everything! dual cammeras, batteries, flash, tele lens, wide lens, batteries, chargers, laptop (but not the tripods). Had hard cases but they are not as roomy and security always seemed to pick them apart esp in eastern europe. Love it. I never worry about my gear with it. Did I say it was big?

Excellant product! Comfortable and roomy

Great product! It's roomy and very well-built. I've worn the backpack while walking and biking for several miles, and it's proven to be very comfortable. It isn't cheap, but it is worth the money!

Great Backpack

Used for the first time on a hike and it was great. The weight was evenly distributed. I carried a D700 with a 24-85 lens, a 35mm film camera with a 24-90 and a Mamiya M645 with a 55 lens on it. I still had lots of room. I will be using to carry all my gear to and from weddings and portraits.

Bought one for my son as well

I have had mine for several years and really appreciate it, so I bought another for my son who is becoming an avid photographer as well. It is great for storing your equipment as well as hiking. The weight is on your hips instead of your shoulders and it is very comfortable.

This case has left me impressed with its construction, its very useful and very strong internal compartments. I protect my gear: Nikon D700, lenses, flash, memory, cables, connectors and more. Truly excellent.

The main compartment is completely foam padded with numerous adjustable, foam-padded dividers to protect multiple pro-size digital or film SLRs with lenses attached, a full range of lenses and flashes. The camera with a long zoom attached is suspended on two vertical, foam-padded dividers that are internally reinforced with rigid plastic.

Restraint straps hold the lens firmly in place. Three Windowpane-Mesh pockets inside the front flap visibly organize filters, film and other accessories. A plastic, foam-padded platform in the bottom provides shock protection while a LockDown rain flap protects the zipper from the elements.
