Just as the golden age of audio recording is celebrated for its legendary analog microphones, consoles, and outboard gear, the SB-1 Starbird Studio Boom Stand holds a revered place in this illustrious history. This iconic piece of equipment was designed by George Starbird, who founded the Meletron Corporation in Los Angeles in 1939. Initially created for large broadcast environments in the 1940s, the Model 180 studio boom stand quickly became the preferred choice for recording studios due to its unparalleled reach, range of motion, and stability.
The SB-1 Starbird Studio Boom Stand, now in its third iteration by Triad-Orbit, continues to uphold the legacy of the Model 180 platform. It incorporates patented Triad-Orbit innovation, enhancing its performance, versatility, and stability. All Triad-Orbit Starbird stand base, boom swivel, and clutch components are designed to retrofit to legacy Starbird stands, ensuring compatibility and extending the life of these timeless pieces of audio equipment.
Key features of the SB-1 Starbird Studio Boom Stand include the Starbase Retractable Stand Base, a robust cast iron base with pivotable, retractable legs for optimal positioning and efficient storage. The Boomstop Safety Lock is a pin locking mechanism that secures the boom in any position, ensuring safe operation regardless of the weight suspended. The T.A.F. (Triad Air Force) System is a patent-pending pneumatic system that automatically raises the stand and boom effortlessly. The VariBal Counter Ballast System offers easy, adjustable counterweight positioning and the ability to add additional ballast as needed. Lastly, the stand includes an IO Quick Change Coupler and OA Swivel at the end of the boom, providing superior positioning and swift microphone swap capability.
Whether you're a professional audio engineer or a passionate audiophile, the SB-1 Starbird Studio Boom Stand offers a blend of historical prestige and modern innovation, making it an essential addition to any recording setup.
