Review Summary

If you are new to mixers some use of language might now be entirely clear. The programming is a bit archaic - staying true to how they have always been rather than making them a bit more user friendly. Having said that, this is an excellent mixer that will mix, record and send audio to an external device, like a DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) for processing. Ensure you get large capacity memory card, and top quality. Once you are past the initial learning curve it's easy sailing. I would buy it all over again!

The TASCAM Model 16 16-Channel Hybrid Mixer/Multitrack Recorder/Audio Interface is a versatile all-in-one solution, expertly combining the warmth of analog with the convenience of a digital workflow. This compact, full-featured small format mixer is ideal for small format live performances, recording, and production environments, offering a multi-track recorder, USB audio interface, effects, comprehensive mixing and routing capabilities, and Bluetooth wireless connectivity.
The Model 16 boasts 14 easily accessible top-panel inputs, providing flexible options for connecting microphones, instruments, or other audio sources. This includes 10 Mic/14 Line/2 Inst inputs, ensuring easy access for live recording or mixing. A Bluetooth 5.0 enabled Stereo Input Source Channel also offers stereo RCA and 1/8" Stereo (selectable) jacks for streaming audio device level control.
Experience pristine audio quality with Mic Inputs 1 through 8, featuring TASCAM's Ultra-HDDA (High Definition Discrete Architecture) technology. This ensures pure, transparent natural tone with ultra-low noise. Each channel is equipped with a tactile Gain knob for precise input level adjustments, a push-button Lo-Cut filter, and a three-position Input Selector (Live/PC/MTR) for quick and precise control of input source signals. Inputs 1-8 also feature a 1-knob inline Compressor and a mid-range sweepable 3-band EQ.
The Model 16 offers maximum audio routing possibilities and monitoring with 3 Aux bus (MON1, MON2[pre/post], FX) and PFL Listen. A Sub bus provides an additional stereo lineout source to the master SEND section. 3 AUX Outs allow for audio signal routing for stage monitoring, or to external gear such as outboard effects, signal processors, or headphone mixes. The Footswitch control jack provides additional monitoring and control features.
The powerful internal 16-Track Multi-track recorder captures 14 Inputs and 2 Main Mix simultaneous tracks of audio to an internal SD card in high-quality 24-bit/48 kHz. This allows for recording anything from live performances to rehearsals, worship events, spoken word, and meetings. Recorded tracks can be immediately mixed, mastered, or exported to a computer for further editing, formatting, and publishing.
The Model 16 also features a high-quality internal 16 input/14 output USB audio interface, capturing audio at a 24-bit/48 kHz sampling rate for recording or playing back from an external DAW (digital audio workstation). The new generation TASCAM USB driver delivers extremely low latency and the highest level of efficiency when recording audio.
Each channel can select the input source as needed using the channel Mode switch, allowing for a super flexible input configuration. The Model 16's versatile Effects Section offers 16 editable and foot-controllable multi-effects, including reverb, delay, chorus, and flange. A 4-Band EQ with mid-range sweepable, wide/narrow Q can be dialed in for crafting the perfect mix, assignable to MAIN outs or MON1/2 outs as you like.
