Paired with my GX85 and a speedlight I've managed to take a few good pictures with this. I like it, but it has a lot of limitations. Firstly, there's some internal reflections that may ruin some of your pictures, especially when the background is dark and there's something shiny just out of the frame. If you're using a speedlight be mindful about this. Secondly this prime lens does a zooming in action when focusing, it's weird and I don't like it. Thirdly in a micro four third sensor you start to see heavy diffraction at f/11 and f/8 is a little less sharp than f/5.6, as you can imagine, that's not ideal in macro because of the tiny DOF you have even at f/11. f//8 is the sweet spot for this macro lens.

It's quite a nice little lens with a very sturdy feel to it since it's all metal and glass. I mostly use it to scan my negatives and it does a good job at it, though all things considered it's not perfect and it's to be expected from a lens this price point, when I try to focus as close as possible it has a lot of glaring that I tried to remove with a lens hood to no avail.

I?m new to macro shooting, so this is my benchmark lens. Or as is often said in life, ?you never forget your first?. I?m very happy with the results I?ve gotten thus far and I?m certain it?s capabilities outweigh my talents in this particular rabbit-hole of photography. I?m also confident this lens, with it?s absolutely impeccable build quality and awesome tactile focus and aperture controls will help me attain greater things shooting smaller subjects, as it?s a pleasure to use such a well made, ?old school? style lens which actually encourages it?s use. For $99.- it?s an amazing and very enjoyable piece of gear to use. And?.I LIKE the crazy metal lens cap!

The close-up power is not bad since I took a few pictures of flowers. This 40mm lens can also be used as a standard lens. Above all, it is excellent value for money.
