Think Tank BackStory 15 Backpack for DSLR Cameras, Lenses, 16" Laptop and 10" Tablet

This bag is extremely frustrating for me. On the one hand, it is almost perfect for my needs in every way--spacious enough for a lot of gear but still relatively compact, fantastically designed laptop/tablet compartment, flexible tripod mounting system, removable waist strap, included rain cover. It even fits inside a Pelican 1510 case with a little finagling. In fact, in most ways, it's almost identical the Backlight 26L I already have. Unfortunately, the two main reasons that I bought it, despite already having the Backlight 26L, were that its waist strap was removable and that it had a strap for passing over a luggage trolley handle. The massive flaw with this bag then, is that the trolley handle strap is pretty much completely useless. On both of my large check-in suitcases, the strap is simply too high up on the bag to go over the handle. And on my Pelican cases, the strap is too narrow to slip over the handle. It's frankly baffling how such a flaw could have made it through the design stage. Considering my typical travel situation is 1 large suitcase, a backpack, and a shoulder bag--this is a fatal flaw and completely defeats the purpose of the purchase, so I will be returning it. My disappointment is immeasurable, because in all other ways, this bag is perfect.

It was my first time upgrading my bag since i began my photo journey 10 years ago. I searched long days and nights for what the best bag would be for me and my entire lens and camera kit found a home in the back story 15! Along with my Ipad pro =] !!!

After looking for another bag to be as great as my Streetwalker... The Streetwalker 15 will definitely become a main bag whenever I need my Macbook to come along with my camera and lens. I love how organized the bag is along with the way I can reconfigure the inside compartments to fit my equipment. I wish the Backstory 15 had the ability to place a lock on the zippers of the top panel access, but other than that its a very solid bag!

I've been using ThinkTank's Streetwalker for almost 10 years. It's traveled the world with me and I am still thoroughly impressed with its durability. The Streetwalker was perfect in the field but it didn't have space for my laptop. I worried that a bag big enough to carry a laptop would be too bulky when out shooting. I am delighted with my purchase of the BackStory 15. It holds my laptop and gear while traveling through airports. And when I head out to shoot the laptop sleeve becomes my filter holder. I'm also impressed with the easy access top compartment. It's a feature I didn't know I needed! Of course, the fit and finish of this bag is the high quality I expect from ThinkTank. I'm looking forward to another 10 years (or more!) of being a happy ThinkTank customer.

Needed to fit a Canon R6/100-500mm and 6d body with 24-105mm lens. All fits. Very secure. Worth a look if you need a comfortable on the back bag as I did.

Couldn't use backstory 15 bag. It was supposed to accommodate a 16" laptop, but I couldn't fit my 15" MacBook Pro into it. So disappointing!

My husband and I recently bought two Backstory 15 backpacks for our Nikon z7ii cameras. We really like the depth of the backpacks because we can easily see, store and access all our gear. We also like the top access to the camera compartment which allows us to quickly grab our cameras for fast shots. Overall, the bag is a winner!

I was looking for a bag that would travel well, have lots of pockets for miscellaneous items and still look stylish. I am able to keep my D850 with a 200 mm F2 monster lens in this bag with plenty of other room and even my laptop while traveling. I took this to Puerto Rico and wore it for probably 50+ hours even hiking for 18+ miles in the tropical rainforest. It doesn?t show any wear and tear at all and was so comfortable. I cannot say enough good things about it!!!

I chose this title because I still use a DSLR and like having a vertical grip on it. So instead of taking the vertical grip off and putting back on I just put the body in sideways without a lens mounted on it. Eventually I will buy a mirrorless camera...lol. I do love the top access and the pocket for the newer, thinner laptops (my old one with the DVD drive was too thick to fit.) and a tablet which my previous backpack was lacking. it's nice having only one bag to carry around for day trips now. Another useful feature is the pass thru to attach to your luggage handle. I also own an Airport advantage XT in Graphite which I use as a combo with the Backstory 15 when traveling.

This is a nice pack but does not compare to the mindshift backlight packs of similar size which have many more features and more room/pockets for additional gear. And the prices are similar.

The construction and functionality is great however I wish Think Tank designers would take a page from the Mind Shift designers especially since they own Mind Shift. The Mind Shift BackLight is a superior product because of a few minor items. Better outside pulls , superior fabric for durability, clean up and looks. Just a few minor tweaks and it would be a Fantastic bag.
