Questions & Answers

Shopper : What is exchange policy if bag does not fit the equipment that I wish to carry?IRWIN S : Sorry, I don't know the answer. I never returned a camera bag. I would assume that it would be subject to the same conditions that cover any merchandise return to Adorama.JOHN P : You probably should ask customer service at Adorama. I returned a lens because I decided to go 2.8 rather 4. It was no problem.ROBERT H : Beats me. You need to have that question answered by Adorama. I did not need to return it, so no experience there.
Shopper : How about protection for the gear? Can it be banged around to some extent without the equipment inside being damaged? How does it compare to the ultra-light V2.0 in terms of capacity and safety?IRWIN S : I am not certain as to how to answer this question. I have carried the Retrospective 10 from home to car to site. I have also brought it on airplanes, stuffed it in overheads and under the seat in front. The bag withstands everything I have put it through and still looks great!! There are separators and pockets galore so that your gear doesn't have to be banging into each other. I haven't rolled it off of the edge into the Grand Canyon so I don't know if it will be that protective. This is a great day bag that probably won't be big enough for all of your kit. I don't have an ultra-light V2.0 but that is a back-pack and the Retrospective a shoulder bag. I also think that the capacity of the V2.0 is greater then the R-10.PON A : The retrospective 10 is a stellar bag! It's like finding an old friend. There is plenty of padding in the bottom, sides and dividers too. These can be left in or taken out. The canvas is heavy duty and takes quite a beating is even quite stiff before it breaks in. Even with most of the padding taken out, (from personal experience) you can drop the TTR-10 out of a slow moving van and/or push it off a desk with the camera equipment inside staying intact. If you also get caught in a torrential downpour without the raincover, it still will keep your stuff dry The ultra-light V2 is a bit larger and more rigid, however it depends on what purpose you are buying a camera bag. If you just want to transport a camera and lenses through town and the airport - the ultralight v2 is better. However it is a backpack and the way the zipper is designed, to access your camera/lenses you have to take it off and put it ON THE GROUND to open it without worry everything will fall out. It is also black and looks like a camera bag. The TT R-10 in green canvas doesn't necessarily look like a camera bag especially if you take the padding out it looks like a crappy canvas bag - which is GREAT. I have taken this thing through Morocco, Rio De Janerio, India and no one really notices its a camera bag. The "sound silencer" covers over the velcro fasteners I initially thought were useless but I found that it allows extremely fast, discrete access to your bag so you can shoot and retreat. Best part is you don't have to take the bag off to access its contents. Biggest problem is that the TTR-10 is a sturdy bag which makes is a bit heavy. With 3 lenses and a DX camera it can weigh heavy on the shoulders after a long day. But otherwise it is a wonderful bag. If you are going to just transport equipment, the ultra-light V2 may be better but if you plan on actually shooting with the bag, the retrospective is possibly the best shoulder bag out there.RANDY B : Hi. I use this for a ful micro 4/3's system (5 lenses and two bodies) with no problems of overloading. the build of this bag is as good as it gets - sturdy, well thought out, excellent craftmanship, and extremely comfortable to wear. The protection from shock is very good and it's sturdy construction and generous padding will protect your gear. Plenty of room for accessories with large exterior pockets. NOTE: At times I have used this bag for D-SLR (APS-c) and several lenses when I want to travel light. Don't hesitate on this choice...and the best looking bag that does not look like a camera bag!LIZ M : It is a pretty tough canvas, and a little bulkier than Think Tank's other bags (I have a black one that is slightly larger). I am not that rough with my bags or equipment, or so I think. In any case, everything seems very secure in there. There is padding where it is really needed -- at the bottom of the bag. The strap is more comfortable than their standard black, which is why I choose this bag over the other. Cons: the opening is more narrow, so it often takes both hands to get my Canon 5D to slide in. That helps to keep things from sliding out, but a bit too much for me. Still, I use it all the time. It is a nice gray-green that seems to go with everything.THINH L : The protection is great. From personal experience, mine was fallen on concrete from a truck and the equipment is perfectly fine. You can feel the quality the first time you pick it up. I do not have experience with V2.0. I definitely recommend.CARL M : I love this bag. The adjustable Velcro makes it very convenient to get in and out of. The Pinestone material is comfortable and quiet. The slim contour makes it easy to carry. The bag is made to protect your equipment from bumps and scratches and provides similar protection to the Lowepro and Tamrac bags I have owned, but it's not like a plastic Pelican or other hard case. I'm not familiar with the V20.DON F : It all depends on what does bang around mean to you. It will protect gear from bumping and low level falls such from a chair to the floor. I am not sure how a zoom lens attached to a body would fare dropped from a height of 3 feet or more. I find that my lens and body will stay inside even if the cover is open due to the strap inside stopping them from sliding out. I don't have any knowledge of both case to compare. Hope my answer helpsRONALD M C : The bag offers about the same protection as a Domke bag with the canvas dividers. The Retro dividers are about half the thickness of those in a standard backpack but still functional. The bag carries my iPad in the front pocket (the primary reason I bought the bag) and functions as a man-purse/camera bag. In it can be my GPS, a small thermos or a couple lenses, Canon 40D or Canon G11, misc. items and travel papers, etc. My main kit is in the Think Tank International roller bag. I also have a couple, empty for the moment, Lowe-Pro bags.ROBERT H : Don't know about the V2.0, but do know that the Retrospective bag does a very good job of protecting the gear. I have had it living in the vehicle, have flown to Caribbean destinations, used it around town, and don't have any problems at all.Christopher C : I would say that depends a great deal on what you mean by being "banged around." No bag is going to protect your gear from too much shock. Also, some professional gear is designed to be tougher than inexpensive amateur gear. All of that said, I think the padding in this bag is more than adequate -- meaning I think it is too heavy. I have not seen any damage from being dropped a couple of feet or sitting in the back of the SUV. It rides well in the overhead bin on airplanes and I would trust it to protect my gear if it rolled off my lap onto the floor. Overall, this is my favorite bag.FREDRICK G : Yes the bag can be banged around, but not heavy blows. Protection is not the same as a bag with foam insets. I love the bag for its not looking like a camera bag, the heavy duty shoulder strap and convenient pockets. I use it for a D200, 17 -55 2,8 and a 70 300 . Just right. A terrific walk around all day bag.ROGER M : It's not a padded bag, so it depends on what you're banging it on or against. I wouldn't drop it on hard ground or on a rock or boulder. But if you occasionally bump against a wall or if you're in a crowd and it gets jostled around that would be fine. I have my camera positioned so the lens is facing the bottom of the bag with a few inches from the bottom and I've dropped the bag on the ground and nothing was shifted or moved... I bought it for a trip to Ireland. I wanted a sachel looking bag that wouldn't shout "camera bag" and it lasted tossing it around in and out of cars and trains, occasionally short drops on the ground, in muddy and wet lawn...It worked out really well.. I don't know about the Ultra-light V2.0, but this bag has become my full time camera bag. It holds a lot of stuff, it's rugged, and a great all around bag.DAVID D : I would think the bag offers as much protection as the normal looking black bags in the market. I just returned from a wedding in Mexico involving 4f flights with a 5DII, four lens and 2flash units packed in the bag. All was fine with no problems.JEFFREY W : This bag has decent padding if you are going to be carrying it on you - that being said, it's not the kind of bag I would expect to protect my equipment if I piled other bags on it. This is a lightly padded bag; it's flexible, not rigid. The best way to gauge the size is to check it out in a store, if you have one nearby. It is definitely smaller that the ultra-light V2.0, but there are also larger versions of the Retrospective if you need more carrying capacity.MARK J : It can be banged around some. There are Velcro liners and padding for the inside so you can create custom sized pockets for camera bodies, lenses, flashes and so on. I can't compare to the V2.0, but I personally have it organized for a flash, body with lens, 2 spare lenses. And that's just the inside of the core. It has outer pockets surrounding the coe where i carry my ipad, spare batteries, etc. Also, it came with a protection rain cover which slides over the whole thing for inclement weather. Hope that helps.CHIP D : I've had this phenomenal bag for almost a year. Nothing gets damaged inside it and I fly all over the US. One of the truly neat things about this bag is IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A CAMERA BAG. I just love that.TED U : It's lightly padded. I wouldn't depend on it as much as a dedicated protective case for my equipment, but mine did take around a 4' spill onto a hardwood floor with no damage to my gear. It was fully packed with my 1D Mark III, 24-70L, 70-200L, and Tokina 16-28. For general carrying it's just fine as long as you don't throw it under a truck or swing it around your head. I carry mine everywhere, nearly every day and I've not had a damage issue yet. Now if I know things may get roughed up, I'll reconfigure my Tenba Shootout for the journey, but otherwise the Retrospective works just fine. Hope that helps!
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?KELLY D : It is a well-made bag, perfect for a DSLR with a couple of walkaround lenses. It is also an inconspicuous bag - it looks no different than a canvas messenger bag, the same as you'll see in any major city.FRANK V : I wanted something that could fit a body and 2 lenses, as well as a speedlight, when I didn't want to lug a huge bag with me. This one is nice, light and compact, but offers NO padding. Be careful when handling!

Great Laptop Messenger Bag

I purchased this bag for a trip that I was taking by way of aircraft. I was looking for something that would carry and protect my iPad Pro 11, my MacBook Air 13, and several books while fitting under the seat in front of me. This Retrospective 13L fit the bill beautifully. It is sturdy and comfortable to carry through the airport. I recommend this case for anyone looking for a slim bag that is easy to cary and use; at a fantastic price.

Retrospective 13L - Blue Slate

My Retrospective 13L is very well made,. I use it to carry me older Lenovo laptop, model T480 which it fits in snuggly. The workmanship is excellent and the material is really tough. i have other camera bags that are expensive, but nowhere the quality of any of the Thinktankphoto offerings that I've purchased.

Close to an ideal shoulder bag

I've been around for a lot of years and have been through a lot of camera bags, most in briefcase style. This one is far and away the best I've found, and at the sale price from ThinkTank is too good to pass up for the bag's quality. It's very well put together. After two months of using it, I've found that it's rugged, durable, and very well set up for all the tech I need to carry (computers and related stuff, plus DSLRs). It's got a couple of internal pockets which make it possible to separate things separately. It's got waterproof protection and, so far, seems nearly indestructible. Finally, if you're traveling widely (and for me this has meant some pretty remote and rugged places), this bag is not at all 'flashy'. Years ago, when I was traveling widely and using Nikons, we'd do things like put a piece of black electrical tape over the brand label on the camera, something that photojournalists used to do. We thought (and I still agree) that his makes the camera itself less conspicuous for photo subjects and less obviously an expensive branded product. The bag has that same quality--it's unobtrusive, rugged, efficient, and over the past few weeks priced so remarkably low that I'm considering getting another one as a backup. As a closing note: the shoulder strap is just about the best I've found for a briefcase. You can wear/carry this for long periods of time very comfortably. In other words, I'd rstrongly recommend this bag. If their other products are as good as this, I'll certainly be back.

Perfect bag for my tablets and PCs. But with one minor complaint

I have the Retrospective messenger bag for my cameras, so I thought I'd pick this up for lighter use. It's the perfect amount of space for my laptop and daily carry items. The only complaint that I have is, that unlike the camera bag, which has a divider in the front pocket, it's just one single opening. So the structure of the bag doesn't hold as well when I have things in there. But otherwise, I am very happy with the bag.

Comfortable and Conveinent!

One of the standout features of this laptop case is how well it fits my MacBook Air 2020, along with all other essential accessories. The main compartment has enough space for power accessories, cabling, two USB-C adapters, two small journals, pens, and even a water bottle! The case is designed to accommodate all your essentials while keeping them organized and easily accessible. The messenger-style padded strap is another feature that adds to the overall comfort and convenience of the case. It's very comfortable to wear, even for extended periods, making it a great option for students, professionals, or anyone who needs to carry their laptop and accessories around regularly. Overall, I believe that the Think Tank Retrospective Laptop Case 13L is an excellent product that delivers on both style and functionality. It's a well-designed case that can fit all your essentials without feeling bulky or cumbersome. The padded strap ensures that you can carry it comfortably, and the quality of the materials used ensures that it will last for a long time. If you're in the market for a high-quality laptop case, I would definitely recommend giving this one a try!

Great bag

I was looking to add another 15? laptop bag. A few years back I purchased My 2nd Brain laptop bag and loved it. Contacted ThinkTank and they said they didn?t make that size bag in that style anymore and referred me to the Retrospective briefcase. Works perfectly for me and I saved money. Tremendously happy with it. Big thanks to the customer service at ThinkTank!

Simple. Unassuming. Well made.

Just what I wanted and at half the original price so I have zero complaints. I’ve always been a Retrospective fan so ThinkTank is the first place I looked after buying my 16 inch MacBook Pro. There’s also plenty of space for dongles.

This was the laptop bag that I needed

My previous laptop bag was starting to fall apart with years of occasional use. The threads where the handles were attached were coming undone and, on my last trip, the anchor which held the shoulder strap snapped off and my bag came crashing down. I've long been a fan of ThinkTank photography bags and how durable yet comfortable they were, so when I saw this Restrospective Laptop Case 15L, I thought I had to give it a try. I intended to use it with a 15-in MacBook Pro which I normally keep in an Incase Compact Sleeve, so I was delighted to find that the laptop could fit my new case while it was still in the sleeve! I am able to place my iPad (also in an Incase Compact Sleeve) in the next compartment along with a couple of GRID-IT! organizers holding my cables, chargers, power banks, flashlight, and tools. The bag also has a front compartment which I use to toss things in temporarily, but will eventually find permanent uses for. The only downside to the bag are the lack of pockets, but my wife simply suggested I get the equivalent of purse organizers (which is why I bought the GRID-IT boards to try). This actually works better than my previous bag which did have a bunch of pockets but many that were too big or too small and were a constant source of frustration. Also, my wife says I look a lot better with the new bag than my old one.

Retrospective® Laptop Case 15L - Awesome !

I’ve spent a lot of time looking for a messenger bag that was well thought out, but simple at the same time, and the Retrospective® Laptop Case 15L was everything that I needed and more. Style is classic, price point is perfect, velcro closures where you need them, plenty of space, and the cloth breaks-in very nicely. Comes with a rainfly, velcro closures also come with flaps that allow you to “turn-off” for silent opening. Just a brilliant bag.

Finally a laptop case that understands traveling!

My biggest problem with laptop bags is that they are so tight you can usually get the laptop and hardly anything else in. I've been doing a lot of traveling and I needed a bag that would hold my laptop, charger, ipad, documents, external drives etc. I had been through three different bags when I recieved an email about this one. YES! It fits everything I need it to without getting so tight I can't pull any one thing out individually. I'm a big fan of Think Tank's Retrospective series so big bonuses there. I am in love with this bag!

Good bag could be a little better

First, I'm very happy with this bag. It fits my Canon 5D IV with 100-400 attached, plus 2 more lenses and all the accessories I need. It's made with typical Think Tank quality. As others have mentioned, the front flap is much longer than it needs to be, and it gets in the way sometimes. The extra length doesn't serve any practical purpose; even with the front pouch stuffed full, the flap could be 4 - 6 inches shorter and still keep the bag closed properly.

Perfect!

A laptop bag which fits my Microsoft 13.5" Surface Book 2 perfectly. A I mean perfectly - I'm really hard to please! The Retrospective design makes the bag look nothing like a laptop bag & the shoulder strap is great for the slightly weighty Surface Book.

Best shoulder bag period

By tanglefoot47

I have owned about every shoulder bag there is. This ThinkTank 30 is the best I have ever used. It's a larger bag but not huge and best of all for it's size it holds a lot more gear than you would think. I can get two bodies 7D plus 50D with each body attached with 100-400 and 70-200 2.8 plus room enough for the 258-135

Almost bullet-proof

By Keith

My wife and I recently backpacked around Malaysia for 3 weeks. I needed a bag for daily use for the camera as well as for valuable items, such has passport, phone, money, airline tickets, water bottle, snacks etc. The weather was uncomfortable: 28 celsius every night and 36 celsius every day. The humidity was constantly between 90 and 100 percent. We travelled in buses, boats, trains, cars, aeroplanes and walked the crowded streets and alleys. I took 1400 pictures and the camera almost melted...
