This quadcopter drone from UDI boasts some wild features not often seen at any price range. With two different sets of wheels, meant to be driven along the ground and up or down vertical surfaces, the drone features multiple modes and possible configurations, plus a 2MP built-in flight camera to capture it all for later.
Hybrid Configurations
The drone can be flown as a standard quadcopter, and it's been demonstrated to be very capable as a pure flying toy. But when you add a set of axles and four wheels, it becomes a zippy RC racecar that propels itself along the ground with the same motors that can lift it into the air--and it can take off anytime, wheels or not. Two much larger wheels are also included for more maneuverability and the added capability to roll straight up a wall, once again powered by the flight motors. The modes are dedicated as Flying (no wheels), Running (four wheels) and Climbing (two wheels) by the manufacturer.
Flight Performance
With the touch of a dedicated control on the RC transmitter, the drone performs a perfect quick flip and returns to hover mode. The hovering ability is aided by an advanced flight stabilization system that involves accelerometers and gyroscopes for 6-axis control. This feature is becoming the standard of drone flight controls because of how much it helps in flying quadcopters. The dedicated fast-flight mode gives a boost to the small-but-powerful motors, taking things up a notch, and you can count on your RC transmitter signal to keep you in the loop as far as 30 meters (about 100 feet) away. The battery is also projected to provide about 8 minutes of flight time per charge.
Flight Camera Module
The built-in flight cam can capture footage at 720p, as well as take 2mp JPEG photos, and all camera media is recorded on Micro SD cards that you can swap out anytime.
This UDI drone is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Note: Control range may be better outdoors, and unobstructed by large objects, than indoors or among objects that could block the transmission signal (trees, people, etc).
