Great all-in-one lens!

This covers the full range of focal lengths for the every-day lens. Negates the need to change lens at those inopportune moments. Less lens swapping means reduced risk of camera contamination. I'm not seeing any optics/shot-quality degradation with this choice - very happy with this lens.

Great lens

Nice lens, great value. Good optics. AF works smoothly. Weight & form factor makes it a great walk-around single lens solution. This is my second Sigma lens purchase, probably not my last one.

My Sigma 18-200mm experience is very positive

Before I retired ten years ago as a professional photographer my main lens was a Sigma 18-135mm lens. Portraits, weddings, including the studio. I began with Hasselblad in the 70s and my film days ended with the Mamiya 6 before going all digital two decades ago. You are more likely to capture a wider range of subject situations with a zoom. My current Sigma 18-200 is a very decent all-around lens. Period. Especially when using public transportation. Determine your sharpest f/stop settings. Use them! Keep the lens retracted to protect the helical mount and you are good to go. Don?t forget a UV filter to protect the front lens element. This lens in my experience is a good deal for the optics and for the price.

A MUST HAVE ITEM

LOVE this puppy, great bundle item.WOULD hope more try this lens, the OS works well maybe a slight more noise than canon lenses but cost is also a factor. Over all great close focusing ability with range to mid voom range in a single package, Just might be most versatile compact lens on the market, at this price point . Would recommend to a starting photographer, Over kit lenses, you would be well served as most kit lenses are replaced over time anyway.

Great stay on lens

I love this lens. I am just a mom with a camera attending games and events with my kids. Not having to continually remove a lens has been great. For my purposes it works great. I can get close ups on the basketball court and also group photos right after. I have a canon rebel t5.

Shoulder saver

Great so far. Much lighter than humping two canon lenses to get the same optical coverage and only about half as much.

Great All in One Lens

This 18-200mm lens is perfect for travel. It's lightweight and has AF and OS that work perfectly with my Canon T3i. But best of all, it takes great shots at all focal lengths. I would definitely recommend it to all photographers at all levels.

Like an old friend

The revolutionary 1970s Sigma 18mm wide-angle for 35mm film cameras stayed in my bag 24/7, even when I was shooting with Hasselblads back then. I was digital for almost 20 years before retiring. For at least seven years the Sigma 18-125mm zoom was my go-to APS lens in the studio and for weddings. Versatility is a lens' first job, it's got to be ready when you are. The Sigma 18-200mm auto-focus is so quiet the first time I used it I honestly thought the camera's On-Off switch and/or the lens' MF-Auto switch were not turned on. Wow. This lens is sharper and focuses closer than I expected, it's lightweight, short, and comfortable to use. It won't tire you out on vacation or just doing a walk-about looking for decisive moments. Very responsive optic in my opinion and I'm so glad I purchased it.

Good lens that produces good rapid fire images.

The lense seems to perform well. I do find that the resulting image appears a bit over exposed which I believe is personal taste and corrected by a simple adjustment on my 7d MII. The supplied lens hood would not mate on the lens regardless of the number of times I tried. The result being that the hood was loose and endanger of falling off, which is what happened while photographing in the field. I personally like Sigma lenses, this is my third and I have sold all of my remain Canon lenses. On the plus side, IQ is extremely good especially in low light situations where the shoot does not permit strobe or other electronic lighting. I believe the IQ is better than other lenses I have tried. The OS is a strong contender in the DSLR category, the enabled OS seems to be more responsive in rapid fire shoots than the IS systems offered by competitors. This lens is the best I have tried for rapid fire pics in sports or any situation where getting the pic is extremely important; when the camera has Auto ISO enabled good images can be had at 1/1250 in good natural light or as low as 1/160 in differing indoor scenarios with limited lighting. The lens us a strong contender against others that are available, I could not give 5 stars because of the lens hood issue which could have been addressed during some quality control inspection, but anyone wanting very acceptable IQ in must have situations cannot go wrong.

Great all purpose shooting lens.

Great lens. Great focal lengths. Only need a different lens if I need a faster shutter speed for a shot. Very pleased. Bigger than the camera, but lightweight.

Best yet in my opinion

I have used the succession of “travel zooms” from both Tamron and more recently Sigma. This Sigma Contemporary 18-200 is the best I’ve owned. I was happy with the previous Sigma 18-200 II model I have but decided to purchase this newest 18-200 C based on lens tests I was reading. This lens is sharp at all focal lengths with a quick and silent focus. It’s a bit lighter than the previous Sigma 18-200 II and when retracted it’s no longer than my Nikon 18-55 kit lens but still feels solid and well built. It zooms smoothly without any barrel wobble or creep when unlocked. I think it’s also a well finished and attractive lens. Sigma is touting improvements in their quality control and claiming each lens in their new A, C and S series are being individually tested before shipping. I’m really pleased with it and it comes with a nice hood and 4 year warranty.

pleasantly surprised

I was pleasantly surprised at the build quality of this lens. We would all like to buy the best most expensive "L" glass from Canon, But I pick my battles, in other words I'll invest in a top end 180 macro or 100 macro, but The Sigma line is also a very smart alternative considering the price. I also have their 150-500 zoom and absolutely love it. This zoom is light, compact and has a huge focal length range. I try to use all my lenses in the "sweet spot". In this range the images with this lens are great.A relatively small investment for huge versatility.

very versitile

A very good all around zoom if you can't lug around all your lenses. Appears well made. I have another 150-500 Sigma zoom that I love, This one is fast becoming a favorite. It is very compact for the zoom range. If you stick to the old adage to use the middle apertures of ANY lens, Your images will look great. A lot of bang for the buck. The only thing that could be better, if possible, is more travel in the manual focus ring. A very small movement greatly changes the focus. Not so handy when doing focus stacking. My real gripe is with Adorama's customer service. There was no lens hood in the box, and they acted like it was a criminal investigation. Long story short, after way too long, I got a hood from Sigma

I liked it!

Very practical for travel, children and, in my case (I have two wide angles), using it as telephoto. The lens is very well built, but the focus ring is a little loose. Sharpness is pretty good if you stop down, but wide open could be better. See below two images (@100%): i) center (@200mm) and ii) extreme corner (@200mm).

Sigma 18-200 Performs Well

I received the newly released "Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM" lens a couple of days ago and my initial tests have been quite impressive! I have only had a chance to do a quick direct comparison of the Sigma 18-200mm lens to the "Canon ef-s 55-250mm f/4-5.6 is ii" lens that came with my Canon SL1 DSLR. So far, the Sigma zoom lens appears to be noticeably sharper than the Canon zoom lens. I also think that the Sigma rendered colors that are more vibrant and have better saturation. The Sigma focus is very quiet, fast, accurate and does not "hunt" as much as the Canon lens does in tough situations (like lots of detail and low light). The Canon zoom lens tends to hunt for focus on busy objects, such as berries on a tree. As a result, the Canon lens keeps trying to lock the focus and takes a longer time doing so. The Sigma locked focus easily and didn't "hunt" as often or as long. The Sigma lens is much heavier than the Canon, but that is to be expected since the Canon is mostly plastic. The Sigma lens has a solid quality feel. Lens weight is something that should be considered when deciding on purchasing any lens. One of my favorite test subjects is my solid gray cat. I like using him as a photo subject because of his dark coloring and fine details. The Sigma handled his coloring quite well with a perfect exposure that impressively detailed his slight color differences. Under the same indoor natural-light conditions, the Canon zoom did not capture his subtle color differences as well, and as a result, his color was more uniform and muted. Don't get me wrong, the Canon photos were still very good, but the Sigma photos were excellent. Fine detail such as whiskers and fur were razor sharp with the Sigma and slightly less sharp with the Canon. I also took a series of outdoor photos where the subject had lots of detail that included light and dark areas. Light/Dark edge transitions are commonly subject to a chromatic aberration known as "purple fringe". Photos taken using the Canon 18-250mm lens had very visible "purple fringe". The Sigma 18-200mm did not show any (at least not obvious) "purple fringe". The Sigma has lots of positives, but there are a couple annoyances so far. The first one is that the zoom ring is not as smooth as I would expect. It tends to bind a little bit between 80mm - 130mm. That might loosen up eventually, but I still plan on talking to Sigma about it. The other comment is that the Sigma lens feels kind of "rough" while being mounted on the camera. It almost feels like you are forcing the lens on the camera when twisting the barrel. The Canon lenses mount extremely smooth. This is not a big deal, especially since I will rarely be taking the lens off of the camera. Overall, the Sigma 18-200mm lens is a well-made, high quality and affordable all-purpose lens. Very impressed with it so far. I will post updates if there is anything significant to add to the review.
