Hoped for better. Although there are shots you might miss if you had to be switching lens for close up and distance.

To be fair, I was used to incredible sharp clear images from my 70-300 Nikon lens with Nikon d7100 camera. However, it started having trouble focusing after years of use. Forced to find a replacement I looked for something that gave me more range w/o being too heavy. I am still trying to get used to the lack of sharpness. It does take shots at great lengths but they look more like newspaper photo images. I wish my old lens still worked. When you take a shot, you always want it to be the absolutely best it can be.

Tamron 18-400

It's sharp at 400. But it's not so easy to focus in low light.

A great all around lens

I originally purchased the 16-300 model and i loved it so much that when Tamron came out with the 18-400 i didnt even think about it i just made the purchase and i have been happy with this lens. Its not the fastest but its range is what i got it for as an all around every day walk around lens i can take this lens on my d5600 and just hop on the bike and go where ever shoot whatever. It seems to be good all the way thru at f8. Ive shot sunrise and sunset and I've shot macro bugs and I've shot the. Moon.. crisp clear and happy with every shot.

Not a sharp shooting Lense. Canon 90d

The lense did not work out for me. I made an effort with my Canon 90D to get clear photos. Last ditch effort could not get a sharp photo with a herd of Antelope. Auto focus not sharp. Ended up having to use manual focus. Even with that photos not sharp. My 70300mm Canon usm Ii much better. Hated to send it back. Not user friendly lense gave up.

Great Lens and Service

I have used the lens a couple times and have gotten excellent pictures with it and it is fairly lightweight. I received great service from Adorama and got the lens extremely fast.

Great lens. It?s a 600 dollar lens don?t expect it to do 2,000 dollars lens things and you will be very happy with it

Been using it for about a month now. Love this lens it?s super versatile love the long reach but also able to get some wide angles as well. Light and easy to move around which makes it very easy to handhold. The stabilization works good wish there was a bit more stabilization but overall I?ve been happy with it. Images are sharp and the focus is pretty quick. Definitely would recommend for anyone especially for beginners or budget buyers

Great Upgrade

I purchased this to upgrade from my 16-300 Tamron. The 400mm range is a nice advantage and the lens is also great for macro photography.

Lightweight Zoom!!!

I've been using this lens about 3 weeks. So far I am really liking it, especially that it is fairly lightweight for a lens of this zoom length. I also love that it is 18-400. I have a 70-300 but always disliked that I could not take up close photos w/ it. Now I can. One lens fits the bill. Although I' love a greater zoom, I can't handle the weight. I can this one.

Excellent Everyday Lens

Excellent everyday lens! The pictures posted were from a Youth Conference and the lens allowed me to take pictures indoors/outdoors and not in the best lighting conditions. The zoom is excellent and a great improvement to my older Tamron 17-270mm

Ideal APSC vacation lens

I took an APS-C camera on vacation and ended using this and a 10-18mm for just about everything. I love the reach on this and how few lenses I need when using it.

quality lens for a good price

I am a new photographer, but I purchased this lens so that I can take photos of the bald eagles and other birds around the lake that I live on. Oh my goodness, this lens is amazing and I am able to quietly zoom in and take high quality photos. I definitely recommend this lens.

Great value for the money.

Seems to give a good clarity and Sharp pictures but you need a real steady hand to use without a tripod. It does have some difficulty in low light conditions because of the f-stop but other than that it?s a good lens and it works very well. I would buy it.

Bravo Tamron!

Great lens on the D7200. Remained fairly sharp throughout the zoom range. There was a fair amount of purple fringing when against planes in the sky at 400mm, however, that is very easy to correct and acceptable by me given the immense zoom range, it's expected. I am very pleased with this lens and have zero regrets with the purchase!

Met my expectations

Very satisfied. This lens is exactly what I was expecting.......a zoom range that would allow me to shoot from wide angle to zoom without having to change lenses. It is slightly difficult to zoom, but guaranteed to stay where you set it. Picture quality is great and the ability to focus close-up is surprisingly good, with such a versatile lens.

Outstanding lens

Daughters main lens. She is getting quality image and lens function flawlessly. A little short for some situation as she discovered in Yellowstone.

Great all-around lens

Great pictures, and the zoom range is great to have for vacation photos. Can handle a nice landscape all the way to bird close-ups. One downside is the focus is noticeably slower than my old Nikon 18-70 zoom lens. The Vibration Control works pretty well.

Jack of all trades, master of none - set your expectations as such and you'll be happy.

By RON S.

I was looking for a good ‘family’ travel lens that would cover all spectrums of shooting and could be used on everyone’s (the family’s DX and FX) bodies, and this lens works very well for what it is meant to be. And if you realize what it truly is, you will find the value and accept the limitations and it’s short-comings. This lens essentially replaces 2-3 lenses, and it doesn’t do anything more or perform any better than the lenses it’s meant to replace, and it does so at a price point that ...

Great Lens for Limited equipment needs.

By Robert W.

I am very happy with my new lens. It has great sharpness throughout the focal range. I found it a little shaky at 400mm, but that is due to my physical limitations. When put yon a tripod, no shake evident. My only disappointment, and it is with me, not the lens, is that it is a grey market product. This means if I need warranty work, The lens is leaving the country. USA warranty desired.
