I bought this refurbished camera to take on a trip to Europe as I didn?t want to carry my large Canon?s and lens. Overall I was very pleased with the photos. The fact that they?re taken in RAW was a selling point for me since I edit every photo I keep. For the most part I just shot on AUTO, since I didn?t want to have to think about settings while seeing the sites. Overall, I super happy with this purchase! I also bought the leather carrying case which was perfect for travel and in protecting the camera.

The camera and lens collapse down to such a tiny package it can easily go in a jacket pocket. An APS-C size sensor, f/2.8 lens, high-res EVF and a hotshoe! High speed AF-C bursts exceed anything you can achieve with a similarly sized camera. My flash head is bigger than the G1x! Wielding it can be a bit top heavy. But the results are tremendous. Having the hotshoe opens up an entire realm of possibilities beyond most "compact" cameras and certainly way beyond what you could ever achieve using a phone.

I have now owned three Canon compact cameras, and too many Canon film cameras to mention. The G5X has a great zoom, and takes wonderful closeups, but the pictures are quite dull-not bright, at all. Perhaps the camera would do better, if I took it off the automatic setting, but I bought a simple camera, so I could use it on automatic. For the first time in my long life, I am thinking of buying a new Camera which is not a Canon. My vast photo archive definitively proves that I am correct, in not liking this camera. I am heartbroken, when I compare my older photos, to the newer ones which I took on this camera. After I bought my G1X, I went online, to see if I was alone in not liking it; I am NOT! Others mention the dull photographs. So sad...

I've had the G1x Mk 3 for about 6 months. More than satisfied with the build quality, feature set, and ease of use. And, of course, the images are exceptional given the APS-C sized sensor in this compact body. The only things I would change is a slightly longer lens (24-105mm equiv would be nice and if the lens were brighter, like f2.8-f4, for example. Other than that, a pleasure to use especially for landscape and street photos.

Having previously owned Canon 5D and G16 cameras for personal use I purchased the G1Xmk3 in April 2019 as a quality step-up from the G16 which the G1Xmk3 fulfills easily. Three years after being introduced I believe the mk3 remains the only pocketable compact-zoom having the APS-C sensor size. The benefits of this sensor show in the superior quality of the pictures that can be be made. Those seeking the best quality in a pocket-zoom should include the mk3 in the short-list, the image quality is fantastic, the build- quality is fantastic, the Canon operating system is (as usual very user-friendly, making it easy to make beautiful pictures, try it, you may like it :-)

I bought this camera a couple of weeks ago based on the APS C sensor primarily. The reviews claimed a mushy lens and only a 24 to 72mm lens range. I after testing the camera finally found the shooting adjustments. They are listed by numbers such as 5 2 4 0 0. The lower the number for some of the settings the sharper the image. Well you guessed it the above setting is the softer setting set at the factory. A 5 1 1 0 0 setting produces very sharp images. And for the telephoto range there is a teleconverter built in the menu below the digital zoom on off. 2.0 or 1.6. The focal length is now up to 144mm and with the large sensor you can magnify another 8 times in the cropping feature with no noticeable loss of quality. The dynamic range of color tones is incredible. These features need to be emphsized.

i bought this, excited about the aps c in a PowerShot camera. But when i got it, i realize that unlike the G7x mark 2, the g1x can not fit in the pocket. in fact, with the viewfinder added, it is quite bulky. So if it can not fit in the pocket anyway, why not just get the M6 mirrorless (which by the way, seems to be smaller and more comfortable then this camera anyway, and is almost 400 dollars cheaper! Plus, the lens here is not very fast, so with the 1.8-2.8 fast lens on the g1x mark 2, the 1 inch is almost as good in terms of low light and image quality as this aps c anyway. So, who is this camera for? I've no idea. I love canon. best cameras in the world. But this camera I think is a big failure. My guess, they improve G7X mark 3, and frankly phase this G1X out...just no marketplace for it...

F2.8-f5.6. At 70mm is already f5.6! This is only good for landscape and travel photo. I was very disappointed. At this price, as top moddel for G line, this is all I get? On another note, I dropped this at 3 ft high, nothing broke, just a scratch on the lens barrel. To be fair, this comera takes a beating and keep on taking (photos.

Bought it just before Christmas and, as promised, have enjoyed excellent photographs from the camera. There are improvements I’d like to see; however, its compact size, rugged case, excellent low light pictures, quick focus make it an easy camera to enjoy.

First, to set the bar, I'm a Canon guy for the last 45 years so my review isn't considering competitor products. I travel extensively and have been hauling my 5D (Mkii and then Mkiii, typically with 2-3+ lenses, and am accustomed to near flawless results. However, prior to an Iceland trip this past February with extensive hiking, snowshoeing, and skiing, decided to gamble and trust my memories to the G1X Mkiii. Over the past few years I've bought and immediately retired a variety of other Canon point and shoots (G1X Mkii, G3X, G5X, G7X and more) which didn't perform well enough as my primary camera to even make it to my backpack. Note that the G3X lens is incredible. The G1X Mkiii is as close to perfection as a 'point and shoot' can be when compared to an SLR. The standard modes (auto, P, Av, etc) and other creative modes are robust and the Scene modes are incredibly powerful yielding professional results - they are not gimmick modes. The camera performed for over 3,000 shots in extreme cold and wet even after living in my backpack and coat pocket for weeks. Downsides are few in my opinion but there are always give and takes. The lens has an ok range but the aperture range is limiting. Probably as a result of the incredible EVF, LCD and sensor, the G1X Mkiii eats batteries. Adding to the pain, the battery door is difficult to open in some weather conditions but more importantly, does not latch automatically when closed which is a significant design flaw that could quickly ruin an outing or trip in dusty or wet environments. While considered compact with a lot of power under it's hood, it wouldn't be carried in a shirt or pant pocket. In conclusion, the G1X Mkiii is not a similar solution with a new model number. The camera is unprecedented, worth it's price, and is truly an alternative to a high end SLR for typical travel needs.

I received this as Holiday present. I had problems with other travel Canons with dirt and outside conditions damaging the cameras. This camera is suppose to be sealed to prevent these problems. I'm very careful with my cameras. This camera is pocket portable with larger pockets. My negitive is I found to my surprise that this camera does not accept a lens filter to protect camera lens etc. Adorama figured out you have to buy the Cannon lens hood for this camera. Hood will accept a 49mm lens filter. Hood Lens cover (unlike the stock lens cover) doesn't fit securely to the hood and not attachable. (Canon sent me free replacement after wind blew secured cap off on Sandy Beach in Hawaii.) I drilled small hole and attached to camera via cord. I do much of my work traveling outside in all types of conditions and this camera claims to be designed for that usage. The photo quality is excellent inside and out. It has a learning curve. It is comfortable to handle and is user friendly. I used it recently in video for parades and other outside events and am very satisfied with results.

I bought this as a compact travel. Currently own a direct competitor with same size sensor in a 23mm non zoom body. Let me say, there is NO comparison in the 23mm of the competitor and this Canon... the Canon's lens is not good. Sorry... come out with a faster lens, perhaps single FOV.... this zoom doesn't work, especially at this price.

Bought this camera about a month ago. Goal was to have something smaller and lighter than six pounds of DSLR camera to take on long distance travel trips. But I still wanted DSLR'like capability. This camera fits the bill perfectly. The lens may be a bit soft but unless you are going to print photo's for profit you will like the results. And while the zoom can't compete with a 300 mm telephoto on an APS-C sensor, some of the other special features such as panoramic, night sky and fisheye modes more than make up for it. In the end, after evaluating all my travel photo's, I discovered that this camera covers 85% of all the focal lengths I shot on my trips. I figured, if I really needed, I could get something by cropping the large RAW image if I really wanted something. So yes, I am happy with this little beast. Only recommendations I have are buy more batteries and an extra charger. If you take 600 shots a day you will need 3 or more batteries. Of course, if you turn off some of the features you can extend your battery life. And lastly, CANON, please get my back ordered case out. You said 8 December was when it would ship. We are a bit past that. Once again good machine, I will leave my DSLR home on long trips to far away places!

Canon today introduced its new flagship compact digital camera, the DSLR-shaped Canon SureShot G1X Mark III. It’s the first Canon compact digital “point and shoot” camera to have an APS-C, and joins the Canon EOS M5 in featuring a 24MP APS-C sized sensor as well as an eye-level viewfinder housed in a pentaprism-shaped housing. But while the M5 is an interchangeable-lens model, the G1X Mark III sports a retractable, built-in 3x zoom lens, making it a more convenient choice for travelers.
