Great little light that does so much for so little
This light does a lot. 3x as much power as an Aputure MC, 8x higher photometrics due to the power and optics. One issue worth noting is that the manual and product page says it has gel mode and effects mode, but they ship with firmware v1.0 which has none of those things unless you use the app. And it says you can upgrade the firmware at their website but, there don't seem to be any firmwares available to download from Adorama/Clar. So I upgraded the firmware using the firmware from Luxli...

Love this light and am looking forward to adding two more to my kit for video and photo use. Definitely follow the instructions of the other reviewer here in order to update the firmware on the panel; the addition of gel colors and effects is a tremendous improvement on an already great device. Additionally, I'm happy to say that the CLAR app is very useful and I haven't had any issues with connection from my phone.

Packed witha multitude of features, this battery-powered 5 x 4" LED device allows videographers to predictably cast any of millions of colors, apply animated lighting effects, and control the whole experience remotely with the powerful Clar Solar Mobile App for Smartphones. RGBAW is the collaboration and consolidation of five contributing Light Emitting Diodes, fused into one miniaturized element that imitates any combination in the visible light spectrum.
The CLAR Solar Series of LED lights break through the limitations of traditional single or Bi-Color LED light panels and opens into the world of virtually limitless color illumination. This light featuring a panel of 88 five-color (red, green, blue, amber, and white) LEDs that can match many ambient lighting conditions, produce nearly every hue of the visible spectrum, maintain color temperature range from 3000½K to 10,000½K, while delivering calibrated color accuracy throughout the rainbow with a CRI of 95Ra and 97 TLCI. The new RGBAW LED technology can conform to any spectral environment, preexisting installed fixture color balance or natural ambient sources by selecting through the myriad of brightness, hue and saturation combinations from 0 to 360 in the RGB Color Wheel, beyond the sRGB gamut.

The App can even act as a colorimeter to pinpoint color imitation from a photo or the phone's camera for analyzation, and produce the matching RGB value for illumination.
The Venus 5" incorporates two independent rotary knobs and a simple, intuitive LCD interface for manual brightness and color controls. The multifunction control knobs direct changing brightness and color. Pressing them switching between the illumination modes. For power, the Venus uses a single NP-F550-type battery or an AC/DC external power supply. The unit has a tripod 1/4"-20 socket for mounting on camera or on any standard light support or an optional matching shoe mount ball head.
