Decent Lens

Lightweight, sharp and a good value. Not f/2.8, but in good light it matches up well with the big guns.

Excellent carry around lens

This is a great lens as far as kit lenses go. I really struggled with either buying this or going for a used in great condition on a Nikon 80-200 2.8 lens. I wanted to try out Nikon VR lenses and as far as that goes it's O.K. I probably just need to cut back on the coffee and pay attention better when I use it. When price is your primary concern, this lens it a good way to go. Good, not great.

solid lens

I got this lens primarily for use for portraits and based on some test shots so far, I am impressed. I did a quick setup with a Nikon SB600 flash and a Westcott softbox and was very happy with the results. Really nice bokeh. Background was soft but the person's face was shockingly sharp. I say shockingly because I didn't think a lens this inexpensive would give such great results. FYI, I got it used for $100.

Great lens at a bargain price!

We got the lens delivered right on time. We have been purchasing from Adorama And are very pleased with their product.the optics on this lens is quite good considering the price. Focus is slow and hunt in low light but that was expected for this type of lens. With ample light, this lens focus right on and hold the focus well. The pictures are very sharp through out the zoom range. Focus is a little bit noisier Then my other lense. Got it for about $110.0 for condition D . Very happy with this lens and would make a great companion for light travel zoom!

Probably all the zoom you'll ever need

I bought this refurbished, pretty much to take pictures of my kids' soccer games. I don't have the fanciest DSLR -- a Nikon D40 -- but it works great on that camera and takes beautiful pictures (trust me, it's the camera, not me). Even though it was refurbished, I don't see any sign of wear and tear, or quality dropoff vs a new version of the lens. Hopefully it will stay that way. The product came quickly and well packaged, in lots of bubble wrap. Unless you are a serious sports/action photographer and want to get one of those really long, fancy telephoto lenses, this one will do the trick.

Worth It

Being a beginner I dont have too much experience in using this lens in the real world. With that being said - it works great indoors and can focus accurately on a cat at a "safe" distance that doesnt like cameras apparently. The pricepoint is also much more attractive than the 18-200 I was considering.

Fast service! Beautiful lens

I was also worried about buying a refurbished lens, but this one looks brand new and works wonderfully. In my spare time, I'm the webmaster for a number of community websites, and this lens will allow me to get some pictures that were just impossible to get with my old point-and-shoot. With the new DSLR, I needed a lens in addition to the kit lens, but the prices for 'new' were just prohibitive. Meyer helped me through the process over the phone, and made me feel very comfortable making this investment. Thanks very much!!

Great Lens!

I had this lens that wasn't vibration reduction and it certainly makes a difference! I love using this lens for photographing nature- birds, chipmunks, horses, deer, squirrels, and anything else I come across! It is fantastic even with the fast moving little animals! I can zoom in close while they are moving and still get razor sharp eyes/detail. The only con is that it is slightly poor in low lighting BUT you will get this in most zoom lenses. (f/4-5.6 explains it all)

A must have for any DX shooter!

If you can coup with the slow auto focus and de f/5.6 aperture this is one of the best tele-lenses you could buy! Very lightweight, reasonably compact and great image quality!

as promised

This unit was as described and of course it has limitations. It would be nice to have one lower f-stop but that does not come as this price. The Auto focus is fast and so far it has taken good pictures. This product appears to be consistent with the equality you would expect from Nikon.

Great lense for affordable price!!

Great lense for most everyday use but not super fast so low light situations are difficult without increasing ISO considerably.

Complements the D50 kit lens well.

By Louis M.

I have loved photography ever since I was a teenager playing with my dad's 35mm Nikkormat. I started the digital arena with an Olympus C-3020 and just recently opted for a faster "power on to first photo" time and a SLR format. I chose the D50 for options and pricepoint. The kit lens, 18-55mm, with the D50 is very nice, but lacked the zoom that I desired. About the time I started looking, the 55-200mm VR was released. I was very impressed upon opening the box. The focuser, when in manual mo...
