nikon 18-135 Is indeed a sleeper!!

I have read all the reviews I could find about this lens, from casual users to professional photographers. One thread seemed to weave through all that I read. That this lens was extraordinarily sharp. Some could find other things to dislike, most of which were less important to me. But when I found a resolution chart by a reputable group, I was rather amazed by the finding of numbers quite close to the 3K mark. This lever is usually only on very expensive glass. I found the refurbished lens on Adarama and ordered it at once. Amazed I was when I used it. I could use it wide open on a tripod and have very excellent results. (Reviewer Thom) suggested excellent behavior at any focal length and most f stops. Most importantly, wide open. I found it performed very close to my best primes. The lack of VR was displaced by shooting higher ISO's giving me shutter speeds eclipsing anything VR can do. Most interesting was with FX to CX adapter that made it very potent optic with a Nikon1 V series. This has to be the most bang for the buck I have ever spent.

Love it!

Nice basic zoom lense. Easy to use, not as heavy as the 18-200 which is a beast! It has been consistent and I throw this lense on when I dont want to think about things too much! ;0)

General Purpose Lens

while it is a good generalpupose lense for snap shots, i would opt for a specific lens given the specific nature of the subject or setting.

Too bad it is not available in US

This is the general purpose lens that I use to replace the 18-55mm kit lens that came with my Nikon D40 years ago. This lens has served me well for several years. The only thing I cannot understand is why Nikon no longer sells this lens in the U.S.

Don't Buy it

It is a good lens but there are many other lenses in the market which are more versatile. This lens is not VR and cannot be used in low light. It is consistent in very good light which will not be the case always.

Great Super Zoom

It is a handy lens for weddings when you can't be switching all the time, but lacks a good f/.

A fine addition to my lenses

I took this lens to the Grand Canyon for a workout and it did a terrific job. Although I had 3 other lenses with me, I ended up using this as my primary lens. The shots that I took were very sharp and the focal lengths worked out well in shooting around the Canyon.

Designed exclusively for use on Nikon DX-format digital SLR cameras, this new and extraordinarily versatile AF Zoom-Nikkor lens is perfect for an extremely wide variety of shooting situations ranging from tight sports, action and portraits to wide-angle landscapes.

For practical purposes, photographers will enjoy picture angle performance that approximates that of a 28-200mm lens on a 35mm film SLR. Advanced Nikon engineering, in particular the compact Silent Wave Motor, has enabled a highly compact lightweight design with excellent handling characteristics.

The optical design features a Nikon ED glass element and two hybrid aspherical lens elements, assuring high-resolution, high-contrast images while minimizing chromatic aberration, astigmatism and other forms of image degradation.

The lens' compact Silent Wave Motor offers wonderfully fast, smooth and quiet autofocus performance. Debuting with the D80 and available at significant savings when packaged with the D80 body, the quality and versatility of the 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G lens helps put the Nikon D80 in a class all its own.
