Tack sharp! I love this lens. Not having used a Macro before I had some experimenting ahead of me?not to be disappointed! My main lens' were Zooms (F Nikkors ). This S series is amazing, clarity, color and contrast is superb. I am gradually replacing my older Nikkor to use with my Z9 (which is a dream in it's self). I definitely would recommend this lens. In addition I would like to mention the great service from Adorama. Ken P

There are so many tiny details, and tiny critters, around us and the NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S is an excellent choice for photographing them. The longer working distance helps to avoid spooking insects and is a definite advantage over shorter focal-length macro lenses. Autofocus works very well and manual focus is very precise. Very pleased with this lens.

This 105 mm focal length is great for micro work. I use it in manual focus with a dual axis macro focusing rail with outstanding results. Coupled with either my Z9 or Z7II I have some amazing flower photography. The focal length allows you to have a more comfortable working distance than with the 50 micro. A superb Lens!

This is a nice lens but is slow to focus. My Fujifilm 80mm f/2.8 is much faster.

Stunning lens. Durable feel. The 105mm is a sweet spot focal length imo. Love taking shots of mirco-worlds and intricate details in nature. Makes them look and feel macro. The depth of field has a unique dimensional look and feel. Autofocus can have a tough time picking up on close-ups - that's when I use the focus ring to manually adjust. Packs a punch with the ol' Z6 II !

The lens is light and the photo is very sharp. The focus speed is very fast for macro photography. The AF motor is very quiet. The only reason I take one star off because the distance between the lens and the object must be at least 6 feet apart to get aperture at f2.8. I love Nikon lenses since 1982 and Nikon lenses are getting better in quality and performance.

After purchasing the NIKKOR Z MC 105/2.8 S and a Z8, I took them to a flower show and was very impressed with the quality of photographs. The lightweight lens focused without issue and took incredible photos even in less than perfect light. It is a huge step forward from its predecessor I used on my D4.

Sharp, light, and Nikon quality what more can you ask for ? Focus is faster than the F mount 105 f2.8 I've used in the past I would highly recommend it to anyone that's on the fence on the lens you will not be disappointed Thank you for all the great products Nikon

I have had the MC 105mm lens for just under two months, and absolutely love it! The sharpness is fantastic and the bokeh very pleasing. My last macro lens was a much used manual focus 55mm F-mount (yup, that old!) that I was using with a D60, but that ended when I stepped up to a Z6ii last year. I knew there would be a qualitative improvement, but had no idea it would be so dramatic. This lens is so much easier to use: it feels great in my hands, it integrates completely with the camera body, and the longer focal length means I can back away from the subject. Between the lens's vibration reduction and the Z6's internal VR, shots that would have needed at least a monopod can be hand held without blur. As we get beyond winter, I look forward to spending more time outdoors, exploring details that normally go unnoticed!

I use it mainly for macro photography. It is a good lens though it has problem of focus when used with Z9 (not sure if camera issue or lens issue). Works fine with my Z7II.

The Nikon MC 105mm f2.8 is a great lens that I just added to my Z lineup. Right out of the box it took great photos and it was a pleasure to use on my Z9 with its light weight!

Lens is very nice. Solid effort by Nikon. Works well with m z9 and I have also used it with extension tubes and the focus is great.

I had the F mount version of this lens, purchased a couple years ago. Nikon took the time to include all the best of that lens and improve it even more for the Z mount version. I bought this at the same time I switched to mirrorless by also purchasing a Z8. WOW!! So far, I have taken so many macro images and I am incredibly impressed with my decision to go this direction. I am regaining the inspiration to pursue photography and to stretch my imagination to creative expressions that are unique to me.

This is a very good lens, it is sharp at 105 and works well at the macro level. It has VR which helps with handheld shots. The auto focus at the macro level takes a little patience, just move forward or backwards to get in focus( in autofocus mode) and it will with it do just fine. I am told most macro lens take a bit to focus. It does have some nice bokeh too! Just focus on your subject with dappled light in the trees behind it. You can create a lovely dreamy look with nice circular bokeh. You can stop down if you want more depth of field as well. It also has manuel focusing if you prefer that method.

Amazing tool to have for macro imagery and also portraits. Love the BOKEH it gives as a lens in general!! I'd recommend this to anyone looking for two lenses in one. Sharp as a knife too!

I own a Z8 and purchased the Nikon Nikkor Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S lens about a month ago. I am very happy and impressed with this lens. The performance as a macro lens is amazing. I have really enjoyed getting so very up close to my subject and capturing the hidden details with such sharp clarity. What makes this lens so special is that I can go from macro to portrait in an instant. The bokeh in my portrait photos contrast beautifully with the sharp focus of the subjects. All this functionality and performance at an unbelievable price point. This lens is a perfect addition to your Z lens collection.

I was pleasantly surprised to see how fast and accurate the focus works on this lens. I am shooting with a Z9 and the lens just makes things easy to shoot. I received the lens and took a couple of test shots of flowers and bees. Squirrels showed up for some treats and again the lens nailed focus instantly. Love the Z 105 MC and the Z9 combo.

Sharp as a tack, good flat field for macro, and superb for portraits as well (though you may need to do some skin smoothing; it's that sharp).

so, i bought this lens originally to accompany me on scuba dives - for nudibranchs, hawkfish, things of that nature - but before i could even go diving i realized that it's capable of SO MUCH! when it first came, i immediately went to my garden to shoot some flowers and bees, as one does with a macro. barely an hour later, i realized i had to go shoot my school's musical, and with this being the fastest lens in my kit, i immediately headed over there with this. it performs so well in every condition! i know that the main "drawback" people give for this lens is that "the focusing is slow," which to me is a good thing. the only negative things i've noticed while using this is that my hands are too shaky to get good insect pictures, and that (to my knowledge) the display on it doesn't support the imperial system.

I have a diverse set of primes and a 100-400, but more than nine out of ten of my images are with this lens, close up or otherwise. If I could have only one, this would be the one.

I only recently received my new lens, but I am thrilled with its performance to date. Another plus is now that I no longer have to use a FTZ converted my set up is now much lighter for my macro photography.

I shoot people/ portraits/street/events. I have a mid zoom of course but my primes are my favorites. This lens has a beautiful look to portraits and allows me to be just far enough away to get plenty of candids. The macro with the same lens I take "b roll" shots as atmosphere to the portraits. Really impressive glass. I've used Nikons for a half Century and always found the glass to be exceptional. Recently worked with Sony glass and found it lacking even though it was smaller and wider aperture. DONT be fooled by stats use the best. When your culling you'll appreciate the quality

Love this Lens!

I have been wanting to get this lens for sometime and finally did. It didn't disappoint. Fast focus, beautiful bokeh with or without macro. Detail is amazing when shooting in the macro setting. It is a bit of a beast, measuring 6.25 inches from front to back cover and even larger with the included hood (approx 3"). But its performance is worth dealing with the size and weight. I quickly adapted to the weight and feel of the lens on my Nikon Z6ii. Would definitely recommend.
Defeats my old Micro Nikkor 105mm in every possible way. GREAT LENS
By Frederick D.
My top-performing macro lens. I use this new Z MC 105mm lens on the Nikon Z7 II body and find that it acquires focus fast, even in low light. No detectable aberration, even when the subject is backlit by the sun. I use it as much for video as stills, and my subjects are fast-moving insects such as honey bees. There is "some" focus breathing, so when doing stacked images, fix the focus and then use a macro rail system over focusing with the lens and that won't be a problem. Solid build and I'...
