I really like the Marantz cassette deck. It replaces the old deck of mine and the features are very similar. I am really looking forward to using the USB port feature. One issue was that the owner's manual did not clearly address the software needed for the USB upload. I have a MAC and it did not work for my particular operating system. After several gyrations I was able to find the download for MAC OS Big Sur. I would recommend this product for anyone wishing to listen to that old cassette library they built up long ago.

Within just seconds of hooking it up and playing the first cassette in deck 2, it snapped the tape inside. I performed a thorough cleaning of both decks and tried a cassette in deck 1. The cassette sounded great. When I played the same cassette a couple days later the sound was distorted and jerky like the gears are moving at different speeds and would eventually eat the tape!

I like that it is about the only affordable cassette player out there. Also the USB connection could be useful to digitize my cassette collection. I?m just not sure how easy it is to use. What I don?t like is it does not have auto-reverse or relay play. It says ?Marantz Professional? but I don?t know what professional would be impressed by it.

It's hard to find a quality cassette deck these days, and I think this unit is perhaps the best available. It does allow for CR O2 tapes and for noise reduction in playback and recording. The cassette heads are of course new which is important compared to the old decks I have well used in the past. My disappointment is in the quality of the tape transport mechanism. It is sometimes tricky to insert a cassette so that it seats properly. Most of my tapes have been ok but I had one that was difficult, and the tape got snagged and mangled. The buttons for play and direction control are somewhat stiff and not nearly the quality of previous decks, but there is little choice these days. The deck does have a USB port for playing and making computer recordings, but the software you can download from Marantz to do this only records "wave" files which are better quality than MP3 files but also much larger. Even though the unit had a gain control, when I tried to use my own software through the audio output, the gain was still too great at the lowest setting. I had to route the audio through a separate unit where I could turn down the output even further before getting to the computer to make an MP3 recording. I have a lot of tapes to digitize and I hope the unit holds up for all of them.

It works well although it does not have a great many features but for the price I have not gone wrong. I really miss my old cassette player, recorder but it is no longer made and I have several thousand tapes that are just sitting there waiting to be played.

I'll start by saying that my review is based on my experiences with this deck alone, and in no way will try to compare them to the awesome decks of yesteryear. This is a solid piece of equipment. Some review complain of the buttons feeling "cheap" or "flimsy" but I am not experiencing that. I purchased this primarily for the tape-to-pc function using a USB cable. The included software was finicky to install but worked perfectly once it was installed. I ultimately chose to use Adobe Audition and with a RCA-to-line in cable am also able to import the contents of cassettes. The one thing I thought was a bit strange is that when I hit eject, the tape door opens super slow, but I'm not in a hurry so I didn't rate it down for that. Great deck for the money.

My old tape deck stopped working and I had to make a choice of whether to have it fixed or to buy a new unit. My wife and I decided to get a new tape deck and the price for this Marantz was very reasonable. We've used it for a few weeks recording various LPs and it has worked well. Very happy with this purchase.

Have always looked at Marantz as a top quality stereo equipment. This unit, sadly, missed the boat on several points. The unit played tapes well, but between songs and in record/pause...anything other than play, there was a constant hum in one channel. The overall construction was cheap feeling and the button were all manual press...not light electronic pressure sensing. The whole unit would move when pressing start, stop or any other combination. Just very sad the decline in quality. I was very disappointed. On the other hand, Adorama Customer Service has been wonderful to deal with. There was no hassle in returning the unit for a full refund. I will ALWAYS keep Adorama in mind when looking for electronics or camera equipment. Thanks, Adorama for working with me on this matter.

Replaced an old unit that no longer works. This recorder/player is of a high quality.

The unit is hardly of Marantz quality. It has limited capabilities, you have to hold the unit to depress the buttons, and overall it fares no better than ION at 2 time the price. Sorry to say this, however, the market for dual tape decks is very limited so choices are not abundant. So far it works playing tapes.

Deck is a great find in this world of digital everything, very useful for making my LPs mobile as the car has both a CD player and a tape deck .

Marantz continues to deliver top performance with outstanding ease-of-use. The PMD-300CP is a dual-well cassette recorder/player that features two speeds of dubbing and a USB output to digitize tape contents to computer for archiving. Two DC servo motors ensure stable, consistent speed for accurate recording and playback. This is the ideal unit to convert your valuable tape collection into digital files.
