Bought this camera for the faster lens. Found no way to upgrade previous review, so thought I'd try again. Camera has lots of neat features and provides excellent pictures in good light. Loses one star for problematic focussing in poor light and omission of "sunset" mode in scenes, but otherwise a very nice camera with lots of features. Recommend taking time to go through each item in menu for new users.

Bought this for the faster lens compared to my Sony RX100 vii. In good light the pictures are excellent, but in poor light (concerts) the camera struggles to focus. I was also surprised that it did not have a sunset scene mode. In concert lighting the camera also seems to be capped at 3200 ISO which sometimes is not enough.

I have owned the PowerShot G5 X Mark II for nearly two years. I have very few issues to report. Wait... I have no issues to report. The camera works perfectly, is GREAT for astrophotography (e.g. Milky Way) as well as detailed images of flowers. It fits easily into a crowded camera bag, a sport pack. or a jacket pocket. I connect to my cell using Canon's CameraConnect app, which allows me to remotely take pictures (perfect for night sky photos). On lazy days, the Auto setting lets me just click away. I wasn't and still am not a professional, but I would recommend this camera to anyone interested in taking amazing photographs.

This little camera packs all the features of its larger camera relatives. AF capabilities are good and controls are very usable. Having a viewfinde, although it is a bit difficult to deploy, is a big plus.

Compact and fast to start and shoot photos. For capturing moving targets, this was my main objective. The flash assembly seems a bit delicate, compared to the solidness of the camera body.

Great travel camera! May look like a conventional point and shoot but this one packs a punch. Easy to use and perfect for photographers who want to travel light without compromising image quality.

Rather disappointed with this camera. If you want to use this in auto only, pictures are good. If you want to shoot in shutter priority, aperture mode or manual it is difficult to use. I found the documentation lacking and non-existing. I have searched for training videos and cannot find them. I have a Nikon and have no problems shooting in any mode. Documentation is excellent and plenty of videos. I was looking for a more compact camera for travel. This is not it.

This camera is fantastic. It's so small that I can take it in a cross body bag anywhere. The grip is large iand textured and very comfortable. The image quality is excellent. In bright light as low ISO, images look really great. In lower light, images get a little grainier, but that is to be expected with a small sensor. Pop up viewfinder is very nice (pulling it out manually becomes second nature after a little while). Also, I keep a protective filter (via Lensmate) over the lens. I've heard that dust in the camera has been an issue for others, but my camera has very little dust. The filter also makes cleaning much easier, since the front element is pretty small. Also, I recognize that buying this would essentially be an "upgrade" from your phone camera. I have an iPhone 13 Pro, and the difference in quality is very apparent. Love this camera.

The only 2 things I don't like about the camera are the lack of filters. There is a neutral density but you can't attach any filters. The other thing is just something that makes me nervous and its where the battery and sd card go. Its very flimsy and has to be used on a regular basis. Otherwise the camera is excellent.

So far very impressed. Bought this for my portable camera option when you don't want to use the DSLR. Also using it as a replace for my Olympus OM platform. Decided the interface on Olympus is clumsy and never liked the image processing for color palette. This camera is super easy to use, all the menus are logical, settings are easy to get to. The focus is fine, could be better but if you work with it you can the performance you need. Fast lens is great. Canon image processor is excellent.

Fits great in a small bag, very nice to hold, image quality is very good, autofocus is great and user friendly. Large aperture of this camera (compared to others in class) mitigates effect of smaller 1”-type sensor in low-light conditions. Very happy with the purchase. Perfect for someone who wants a smaller second camera to their ILC, or someone who wants a very good but small first/only camera that they can take pretty much anywhere.

I truly loved my Canon PowerShot S-95. But Canon finally decided it was no longer a serviceable item. I have had this camera since October 2019 (one year and I am extremely happy with the crisp details I get - even when shooting in high ISO ranges. I generally work with a 5D MK III yet a lot of the shots I take with this small unit are very comparable. The features (and there are A LOT of them) are almost overwhelming. 20fps (30 in burst) lets me shoot while traveling at 80 miles per hour and get clean crisp landscapes. I try not to take my taptop with me everywhere I go, so I had the Canon Print Shop make me a small version of the online Advanced User Guide. A little over 4.5" x 6" and 1/2" thick, I now have all 316 pages to read up on another feature that I have yet to try. It's not the cheapest in Canon's PoweShot lineup, but the f/1.8-2.8 5x optical lens with Optical Image Stabilization and i ts ability to shoot 20 fps has turned out some cool images - even at 80 mile per hour! As. I previously mentioned, some fo my images have been taken at 80 mph: Did I mention from a motorcycle? Set on auto focus tracking and continuous shooting, it get the landscape I wanted. Any delay in focus and I am already down the road and have missed the shot I wanted. The photo of singer/songwriter Frankie Raye was taken under concert conditions. No light, no flash and from the back of the venue. It was the first day I had the camera and was surprised that the results were not only clear enough, the noise cleaned up very easily and caused no loss of image. All in all, I am a happy camper with this little unit.

I bought this Camera in December and it has been great. I have had photos published on front page of my local newspaper. I leave my 90D home when I am street shooting. It allows me to go stealth and quite. I have photographed events at church and its pretty silent. Unless I am shooting sports or need a longer lens this is my go to camera. Looking forward to taking this on vacation.

I felt that Canon's new WiFi/Bluetooth system to transfer photos from the camera to my Android cellphone over a Canon App was difficult to set up (despite resorting to several instructive YouTube videos), and even after setup was difficult to use. While the G5X Mark II camera itself was a gem, the transferability of images issue caused me to return the camera for a full refund from Adorama. For what it's worth, Adorama demonstrated its consistent high level of customer service throughout!

I wanted a portable camera that could take quality pictures and I believe this camera is perfect. I have only used the camera a few times but so far, I am happy with the picture quality. I look forward traveling with the camera and using it to its full potential.

It goes to my church every Sunday and takes about 80 -- 100 pictures. All by available light. At shutter speed of 1/125 sec. auto ISO ranges from 800 to 6400. Noise doesn't appear to require correction till it gets past 2000. I edit my files down to 40--50 images. Rejects are caused by bad facial expressions, image motion, and my goofs. The longer range than my G7X ll is useful. Of course the pop-up viewfinder is also useful.

This seems to be a great camera so far, not too weighty for a Europe trip, although I have not yet explored all the features yet. Pics have been great so far, usual for Canon as compared to other cameras that don't have very sharp photos.. I have had Canon cameras for 50 years, the last was a EOS 77D DSLR several years ago. My main concern is that Canon did NOT include a Users Manual, like they have for the last 50 years. It is a PDF, a whopping 316 pages! Disappointment! I DON'T want to download 316 pages! Rep me sent to print center, but rep said it would just be a printout of the 316 pdf pages ! Lot of good that would do me on an overseas shoot! Nothing I could take with me. So USELESS! unless you download to phone, which may or may not have a connection in Europe. Yeah, it might work as a download, but why can't Canon provide a regular User's Manual???

Bought it specifically for the upcoming mountaineering trip in the Andes, where lugging my main DSLR is not an option. In limited amount of shooting so far it performed very well. The autofocus is not the fastest but i'm not planning to use it for sports shooting. The built-in switchable ND filter is a great feature for harsh high altitude light.

Get a great start with this kit. Includes all you need to make great photos. I especially like the camera. The case is large enough to carry it and the gear in the kit, with room to spare. For not much more than the cost of the camera, you get a spare battery, charger, memory card, lens cleaner, and more. I’m very happy with this purchase.

My priorities were a fast lens (f/1.8, minimum 24-100mm range, good viewfinder, straightforward navigation, convenient handling and good quality photos. In the last month I’ve used extensively while hiking out West, action shots of surfers, family portraits and various sunrise, nighttime, and sunset shots. I am very pleased with the results, and really like the functionality, handling and the very cool scenes settings. It is very easy to switch from auto to manual or semi-manual modes and the controls for adjusting exposure (aperture/speed/ISO/f stop), focus, still/sequence/movie shots and flash are much more intuitive than a similar styled Panasonic I recently owned. Remote operation is also easy to set up and use. This is great alternative to my DSLR and I pack in my backpack to have ready for superior shots to what I can do with my iPhone. The designers/engineers really nailed this one!

I took this camera to Italy last month and shot many pictures in Rome, the Amalfi Coast, and Capri. The camera performed flawlessly and I was very satisfied with it. Having this camera rather than the 5d Mk II and all the lenses that I normally take on trips was a neck saver and time saver. It let me actually enjoy the vacation and not have to worry about changing lenses on the spot for some particular shot. If I needed to take a quick photo, the G5 powered up and was shooting in a heartbeat.

I bought this camera to travel with when I don't want to take my big gear. The pictures are great, had some enlarged to 16x24 and looked nice. Plenty of features, love the tilting screen in both directions, and easy to use. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because when I hold the camera to take a vertical picture, the thick part of my thumb or palm of my hand will press on the menu button, or one of the other buttons on the back. Because of the small size of the camera and large screen, I'm not sure how they would get around this, but that is the only thing I don't enjoy about the camera (other than I wish it would have been less money). It is just what I needed.

Bought for travel instead of my full-frame Nikon with all the pro glass. Pros and cons below are from that perspective. I haven't fully assessed image/lens performance, so the stuff below relates to operation/functionality. Pros: - Solid build - Non-slip rubber grips in the right places keep it from slipping out of my big hands. - Controls are in the right places, and very well thought out. - Fast lens with extreme zoom range for this size is impressive. - Shoots RAW - Autofocus worked great - you just have to spend time to understand what it's doing. And the touch screen override of the autofocus is very intuitive and helpful for those awkward situations - just hit the screen where you want to focus, and it will track that object as you adjust composition. - Internal flash can be set to manual to trigger remote strobes (used with my Nikon SB-800's with no problem - all on manual of course) - Menus are logical (to me anyway), and custom menus let you put frequently used stuff where it's easily accessible. - Will do bracketing, reasonable panos, some other cool and quasi-useful modes. Panos and "Miniature" mode only capture/produce a JPG (that's a con I guess). Still need to explore. - Auto ISO is user-controlled, so for example I set it to span 125 to 800 (after checking noise at numerous ISOs). It's quick to adjust as needed using the custom menus. - Canon remote (separate purchase) works well (bluetooth) if you don't want to mess about with your phone as a trigger. But the phone (app) remote trigger works fine too. - Great image stabilization - very impressive (several options that I haven't explored fully) - pop-up viewer works well, and show you everything the big screen shows you (I think). When you put your eye to the pop-up viewer, the main screen shuts off, so you won't adjust settings with your nose if you're a left-eyer. Cons: - Doesn't seem to be a way to change exposure bracketing from varying ISO vs, varying shutter speed only. It seems to vary both ISO and shutter speed as needed. Still - it's workable. - Tripod mount blocks memory card/battery door. - bit of a battery hog, but not horrible. I bought 2 extra batteries, and had no problem. I don't use bluetooth (except for remote use) or wifi with the thing to maximize shooting time, so I imagine I'm getting about the best possible. - No way to get a filter on it (it has a built in lens-cover as part of body, which is great). - Touch screen can cause you to accidentally hit options while composing if you aren't careful. So just be careful. This cons list is all I could come up with, really. None of it was problematic - it's a $900 point-and-shoot after all. I was amazed at the features and quality for such a small camera. The touch screen in particular makes jumping around menus and controls very fast, and once you get the feel for the autofocus, that touch screen is indispensable for controlling specific focus areas and other settings. Still lots to learn, but definitely recommended.
