After taking a few hundred pictures the camera can not longer be seen via a USB cable. The photos can not be downloaded. The camera is unable to communicate.

I have used Canon cameras for years. Started with a G11, then a G12. Excellent photos, and good features. My primary concern though is that they are NOT weather resistant. That would be very useful for me, as I take many mushroom pictures out in the weather.

I bought this 1 month ago, and I am still learning how to operate the camera. All the things that I have read and learned about the camera indicate I will love the camera.

I have had my G16 for 2 yrs now and I love it ! No more absurd and stoopid holding a camera at arms length which is shakey and full of glare for accurate composing.....

This is a handy little camera when I do t want to carry my Big camera. Easy to use and super sharp pics. Canon rep told me this would be a good camera for me that I wouldn't be disappointed in the sharpness and they were right.

The Shutter button broke. I have replaced it and is now working but was a nuance for the time it was broken. It is a good product but there is a lot of room for improvement. I did take it on a two week trek in the high mountains in New Mexico. I took some amazing pictures with it but was lacking in the area of video taking for some of the more memorable moments and was left to take pictures of moments that should of been video.

I feel like when you want a small camera that you can actually take with you and still get beautiful photos this camera is the one! I had to replace my G11 when the lens got stuck out and all it would say is lens error. I very much miss my sunset option on that model and find the various other settings harder and less intuitive on this one. Biggest complaint for any designer reading this is removing the rotating LCD screen on back that allowed you to flip it and keep the glass covered therefore. That G11 lasted over 6 years. I have had this G16 and within 5 months it developed a small crack somehow on LCD which is spreading. Was never dropped and mostly in a small case or purse in separate pocket. Bring back the flip screen!

This is a great camera in many ways. Great size, heft, controls, fast sharp lens, useful focal length range etc. However, I'm considering returning it. The viewfinder (in this case optical and not through the lens, a feature I have to have, is pretty useless. It only reveals 70-80% of what the sensor 'sees'. This makes it useless for framing, though there are workarounds for this. Also problematic: the lens barrel shows up in the viewfinder at the wide angle end. The view though the viewfinder is also not the same as the sensor's view. All of this might be OK for landscapes etc. but this becomes a major problem if you enjoy macro shooting or close-ups and find it helpful, as I do, to use the viewfinder. With this camera you can't shoot macro/closeups that way as the image you capture will be entirely different from what you saw through the viewfinder. You must use the LCD screen for these kinds of photos. The viewfinder provides zero information to the shooter. There's no AF frame, you can't pinpoint exactly what you're focusing on, and there's no way to confirm focus in the viewfinder, though there is a focus confirmation light just outside the viewfinder. If this camera had an EVF, it would be an incredible tool, I think. Without it, I don't think it is.

I think I am going to like this camera, however, I doubt very much I will even like the manual. I bought this camera as an everyday carry and for the WiFi. Get the WiFi set-up is a huge problem for me. The Manual is truly unusable. Basic Guide = 6 pages (Doesn't include full instructions) WiFi Set-up = 45 pages (56 Cross References and many a compounded) WiFi Precautions = 6 pages Manual = Unreadable and unusable

I bought the G16 because my G9, a few years old, died. Canon service said it was EOL and no longer serviced it. Adorama had a great price with just the accessories I would want. Other than WiFi capability, a lot more plastic and lighter weight, the G9 v. G16 match is about equal. Still 12 mpx and still about the best lower priced point-n-shoot on the market.

I purchased this CANON POWERSHOT G16 to replace my CANON G10 which I had for 6 years, This G16 is a perfect pocket camera with some professional grade functions. The price was much less than when I bought the CANON G10, however this G16 has some major improvements on photo taking Quality and control functions. My only critic to the Canon G16 in performance is its a 12 M-pixel rating. I wish it was higher than the CANON G10 which was rated at 14. Meg Pixel. OVERALL!!...I am extremely happy with this powerhouse of a camera........ RAF

Purchased as a package deal as I wanted the printer and thought a point and shoot would be a good "leave in the car" camera. Quality is excellent and the G16 is much faster than the earlier G series (and all) P&S cameras. Full manual capability or easy auto for those times whenever you just want snap shots.

I got this as a backup camera that was easy to carry with me all of the time. It can be used as a simple point and shoot camera or you can customize the settings. I wanted a camera that could shoot RAW image files but didn't want to pay $600 or $700 for a backup camera. If you are used to using a Candon DSLR, you will find this has very similar settings. I would recommend it as a good backup camera or if you just want a point and shoot camera with the possibility of wanting to customize your settings in the future.

I've owned the G12 for over four years and enjoyed it's features so when I checked out the G16 it felt familiar. First, I like the faster lens 5x zoom the pop up flash and better lcd screen. I would have liked a tilt swivel monitor and the timer as a button instead of in the screen menu. Overall I'm very pleased with the camera .

I have looked for a point and shoot digital camera with low light capability for years. This camera is the best for that I have found or used. It takes great action shots also, which is a plus. I will admit to having a few problems in some situations, but those will be fixed as I learn the camera better and what it can do and what I can do with it. Not for a moment do I regret my choice in the Canon G16.

This appears to be an excellent camera but the programming requires a 128 page manual that is not included in the box. You can download it but that is not the same as having something you can bring along. I ordered a laminated cheat sheet and a bound manual from two different vendors. In order to download the complete free software, the camera needed to be attached via usb cord which was also not included. The whole deal was a pain in the neck and greatly diminished the joy you should experience when buying a fine camera. C'mon Canon. You can do better. Charge more or give buyers the option to get everything at once.

This camera is loaded with lots of features. Great pictures. This camera is my camera I put in a housing for my underwater photography enjoyment. With all the settings on it, it is more of an advanced point and shoot camera than most point and shoot. Great pictures.

A new and very happy owner of the G16. I've had a G10 for about 4-5 yrs and this was a major improvement. Faster start up, faster focus, sharper image, faster processing, better AWB, lighter. I'm also using this underwater with the FantaSea F16 housing and it takes sharp photos underwater using the Fish position scenery. I looked at the G1x, but feel the G16 was better bang for what I wanted.

This camera does just about everything my T3i can, has a few additional cool features, and is very compact. I bought it to take to concerts because recently concert venues don't allow cameras with removable lenses. This camera does not disappoint. One cool feature that the bigger SLR's don't have is the Wi-Fi connectivity where you can send pictures straight to your phone. As the camera on my phone is worthless at a concert, the Wi-Fi feature on the G16 was a cool way to post amazing pictures to social media. A great addition to your camera bag.

I purchased the PowerShot G16 as an alternative camera to my two DSLRs (EOS 6D and EOS 600D, for times when I didn't want to, or couldn't carry one of those. The G16 is an excellent camera, and fits my role as a carry around camera quite well. It is a bit larger than most point and shoot cameras, but has excellent image quality and enough advanced features to keep me happy. If I were to complain about anything, it would be about the lack of a wrist strap. This camera ships with a neck strap, but I carry mine in a Case Logic belt pouch. I purchased the Canon WS20 wrist strap, and it works great.

We purchased the Canon G16, our 5th Canon, because we like our Canon G10, and the G10 has a lot of miles on it - we don't want to be in Lapland or some other distant place and have an old camera fail - and we insist on a camera with a view finder. The G16 is a bit slimmer than the G10, so that is good for my pocket, and it performs at least as well. But it has some capabilities we may never use - wifi, burst, editing-on-the-camera to name a few. The pop-up flash must be an improvement over the G10, but it seems like a mechanical piece with potential for failure someday. The dedicated switch for movies is probably a good idea, but old habits get in the way, and we have missed some good opportunities. We don't like the placement of that movie switch, as it is easy to push accidentally while holding the camera with the right hand. I'm sure the G16 has much more potential than we will realize as we travel the world and play with grandchildren.

Purchased for a trip to Africa. The high ISO and picture resolutions were great for the trip. Also did some HD video which came out great. Small size did not seem to effect picture quality. Pictures seemed as good as my 70D and 1Ds. WiFi and iOS 7 do not get along so could not use WiFi function. It's a known issue on the internet and I assume Canon will fix it in the near future. Video really takes toll on battery life, I suggest one carry a spare. So far have taken over 1400 pic and 30 video...

Great for taking pictures of automobiles!
By cardealership
I bought this to take pictures of vehicles for a car dealership. I liked it so much that when I broke it, I bought the same one to replace it.
Canon PowerShot G16
The Canon PowerShot G16 is a premium compact camera that is the latest in the G series, a popular choice among experienced photographers seeking a small, versatile camera with familiar manual as well as automatic controls. It replaces the G15, which was introduced last year, and looks almost identical to its predecessor.
What's New: New to the G16 are an all-new, faster DIGIC 6 image processor and built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. Canon is also claiming significant improvements in autofocus speed and accuracy. Astrophotographers may be interested in the new Star Nightscape, Star Trails and Star Time-Lapse Movie capture modes. Also new are a series of artistic filters such as Art Bold and Art Vivid, and handheld HDR Scene mode automatically combines multiple shots of a scene at different exposures, merges them and creates a single image with improved detail from shadow to highlights.
The Canon G16's 12MP sensor, which has an ISO sensitivity range as high as 12,800, and 24-140mm f/1.8-2.8 (35mm equivalent) zoom lens and 3-inch, 922k LCD monitor and optical viewfinder remain unchanged. Canon is now claiming a top burst rate of 9.3fps, down slightly from the G16's 10fps spec. Canon says the camera can capture up to 522 shots at 9.3fps without interruption when using high-speed memory cards. 6-way image stabilization assures shake-free images even in some low-light situations.
DSLR control in a compact camera
As with its predecessors, the Canon G16's control options and layout are strongly influenced by DSLR design, and the camera can be a fine complement to your larger rig. Users can choose all-auto modes or the same P/A/S/M exposure options found on every DSLR. The camera has a hot shoe mount and accepts the entire Canon line of Speedlite flash units. It is also one of a handful of compact cameras with a built-in optical viewfinder that zooms along with the zoom lens.
The Canon G16 captures HD video up to 1080p at 60fps.
