As a camera it?s fine. I picked it up at the beginning and was ok with the camera. That application through its two appellations are still terrible. Not sure why it had to have a separate app ? I transfer through a patch cord, it always works. Now an orphan camera, as it was abandoned too soon; kinda like the 1 system.

It took quite a while, but, I think I've got the menu navigation figured out, at last. Put another way, I essentially know how to use it--primarily for shooting movie clips It's not as hard as I thought. After playing around with the menu and shooting photos and deleting 40 unwanted lips and photos, I know my way around this camera, in general. I plan to use it mostly to shoot movie clips and to leave the photos to my Nikon AS3300, or whatever it's called. Actually, menu navigation and shooting movies isn't hard; I'm just slow. I would recommend it to most anyone for shooting movies. A regular photo camera is more suitable for taking photoss, especially with the various modes in modern-day cameras (I mostly use P and, once in a while, maybe A for Automatic.) Might go to the zoo next week to shoot some wildlife. Should be fun with this Nikon.

I bought this camera in order to take time interval photos [which in the user manual (page 64) clearly said..."Capture still images at specified intervals and SAVE them to create a fast motion movie" In real life there's no such option of "capture and save" - it's only possible to get the Timelaps directly... The only good thing about this camera is that it's water proof without aqua box... And the tripod hole... Bottom line I sold it and bought GoPro Hero Session [4] - which basically same - with the timed photo feature (pity it's without the tripod hole...but it'll be solved with aluminum frame)

Could be a great camera......but.......will not work with an external battery pack. Every other camera in this category will work with one.....but....not the 170. I made several inquiries to Nikon but never recieved a single response. You have to be kidding me.

I bought this camera on release as i am a huge Nikon fan. I wanted a action camera to take scuba diving with me and GO PRO had not announced the 5 yet(still would not have bought it if they did). On reading the early description before release i was very interested in the fact the camera is water proof but also they were offering for purchase an addtional housing to allow it to go deeper as i do dive beyond 80ft. I didn't need all the bells and whistles the 5 was offering as they don't work underwater and want to be looking at my surrounding and not the camera. The results were fab both video and pic(couple included). Now there are a few small issues i do have, even with updates i still have a few issues connecting to my iPhone but again for me not a big issue, other issue is that even with the camera off it still eats the battery power, but since i am using the housing it allows an extra battery to be used. Another issue i have not with the camera but its accessories is they are not universal, they use a 1/4 stem attacment like in a monopod to tripod. I would like to see more accessories and better descriptions of them i.e. multi angles of some (hard case). I do hope Nikon doesn't give up on the action cameras and strives to improve this one.

The build is great and so far the image quality is better than I expected. The app process was kind a pain. The computer utility work great, but i'm really hopping for a fish eye reduction option in the near futur. It's kind of intense.

fps is a lie, it shoots 240 then cuts the audio and auto slows it down to 30. the field of view is not changeable, and it has not been updated since its release. it has almost no videos on it and seems to be swept under the rug by everyone. it has no lens protection other than an underwater flat lens that came with it. it had a very promising charm to it when it was revealed and i was hoping it would be the next big thing. but i find myself using the hero 4 silver more than this for almost ever situation. these problems could be fixed if nikon gave it some time and love. i have always been a nikon guy but this camera is kind of an embarrassment and a waist of money

I'm disappointed for a few reason. First, before purchasing I read all of these reviews and decided to proceed with a purchase even after reading negative input. I really thought maybe Nikon had addressed a few of these and this product would be wonderful. With that, you should know, I live in the mountains and a lot of the use for this camera was going to be winter (skiing). This is the number one problem for me with this camera...it freezes up. Even if I leave it in my pocket and then take it out. If the temp is below freezing at all, the camera turns on, and then promptly turns off. The two stars are for the image quality...couldn't be better in my opinion. User interface is OK, but it should be noted I never did sync the camera with my phone, so I can't talk to that. At $400, and a sizable investment in mounts, cards, etc., I'm disappointed to state that I am going to be pursuing a return of this product. Until the cold weather issue is fixed, it does not suite out needs.

I got this camera for Christmas and so far, I love using it. The 4-star rating comes from the quality of the picture, the width of the lens, and how fun it is to play with. The lack of a 5th star comes from the App functionality, (though I hear it is being addressed) and the battery charge. Also, this is my first action camera and there wasn't much information around to help utilize all of the physical camera functions. I ended up ripping some paint off my wall with the 3m Mounts. I wasn't sure if the suction cup would work but if it would please let me know and I'll get it. Also,in terms of accessories, I was hoping to find a silicone case for it, or something a little drop friendly but I was unable to find anything of the sort. All-in-all , 100% recommendation for its quality and width, and hopefully the app gets better.

I'm very frustrated, I received this Camera as a Christmas Gift. Was awesome for about 40 minutes and it ran out of battery. I followed the instructions and plugged it in for about three hours and came back only to find out that it hasn't held a charge at all. Decided to try it on a couple of different plugs that I know work and waited another hour. The battery did not hold a charge at all despite the following the directions to a tee. I'm disappointed and will be returning it.

My Wife purchased this camera for me for my 50th Birthday and we had high hopes for this camera since we are Nikon DSLR users. If I could give 0 stars I would. Buyer beware! This product is not functional as an action cam!! Pros: 1. When the camera does work, it does have a good picture with good low light performance. Also, still photos are sharp. 2. Seems to be well built. Cons: 1. Nikon Snapbridge App is absolutely the worst App i have ever used. Most of the time it does not connect to the camera and you will miss your shot. 2. Remote - While nice that is included in the cost of the camera, it is mostly non-functional and very user unfriendly. As with the app, it does not connect most of the time. Useless. 3. Even if you set the auto-off timer to the off setting, the camera will still shut off after a minute or two and you will have to re-start the camera manually. Again, you miss the shot. Very annoying! 4. Battery life is exceptionally poor. In cold weather (28 degrees) the fully charged, brand new battery only lasted 5 minutes. I switched to other fully charged batteries I had in my warm pocket and had the same performance. Unacceptable! 5. BEWARE, CAMERA DOES NOT WORK FOR WINTER ACTIVITIES!! Again, in 28 degree weather, this camera stops working, and also shows an error message for memory card error. 6. Limited and expensive mounting options I returned this camera to Best Buy for a full refund as my Wife and I feel it is not ready for Prime Time. Not even close! How Nikon can release such a poor product to the market is beyond me. They really need to go back to the drawing board with this product. Really Really bad experience! Summary: $500 paper weight! Boo!

I just purchased this unit along with Nikon D750. The promo video caught my attention, however when I began to read the manual and look at the accessories or better said lack of accessories when compared to the GO PRO series. Nikon appears to be still in the process of developing this system. If Nikon is going to sell this unit as an action video camera. They needed to also roll out chest, shoulder attachments. The strap attachment appears to be flimsy could very easily come off. When compared to the sky diving video does not make sense.

The picture quality is good as well as the video at 4K except at low-light. There is so much hissing sound in the video recording that is very annoying even if VR is on/off and wind noise reduction is on. No adjustment for the mic to compensate this noise by adjusting the gain. Mobile devices have superior audio quality recording than this. Audio recording is disabled at 4K.

Nikon has developed a good competitor to the GoPro. Image quality is good and, in fact, the low light quality seems to be better than GoPro. But, Nikon did not bother to work out the software properly. The Wifi system to control the camera remotely with a smartphone is terrible. When you manage to get the connection going, which takes some doing, it allows you to control the camera, until you lose that connection. Then you have a brick you need to physically get back to in order to pull the battery and reset. I hope this will be fixed in a firmware and app upgrade very soon. Until then, you're better off with a GoPro.

Pro's: Beautifully constructed. Delivers crisp and detailed video & still photo's. Stabilization feature works very well. The 170 is a really good camera! Con's: Several pages of instructions are included in the owners manual about SnapBridge set up which is really for use to upload still photo's but no instructions are included in the manual about moving video to a laptop via USB or how to use the HDMI port to view video on a TV. Strangely, these instructions can be found in the KeyMission 360 manual. As the main fuction of this camera is video, I'm curious why these instructions were left out of the manual?? Lastly, the camera mounting options need to be improved. The wristband option is impractical for most as is the helmet mount and the stick-on feature is a one time only option and will damage certain surfaces.

I bought the KeyMission as a GoPro alternate, but for stills. I need the video capability a few times a year, but I really wanted a discreet still camera for commuting and for alternate shots. I am liking the results so far.

Compact and fantastic photos/videos come out of this little guy. Great job Nikon
A direct competitor to the GoPro, the Nikon KeyMission 170 captures 170-degree 4K videos at 30fps. It is capable of recording in ultra-slow motion (Full HD at 120fps), and you can tag selections during playback or set up loop recordings. The camera is waterproof down to 33 feet and shockproof against drops of 6 feet, as well as freeze proof.
Imagine the fun of capturing a child's first bike ride, a dog's romp through a stream, even just a morning jog, from an epic 170° first person point of view. KeyMission 170 transforms everyday adventures into thrilling first-person 4K Ultra HD videos that can be shared with a compatible smartphone. Its waterproof, freezeproof and shockproof, has built-in Wi-Fi® with Bluetooth®, electronic Vibration Reduction, time lapse, loop recording, includes a remote control and has more than 10 mounting accessories. Bring it everywhere, mount it almost anywhere and share awesome views of your life.
170° ultra-wide-angle views with inspiring image quality
The 170° perspective of KeyMission 170 makes every moment look epic, and its superior Nikon image quality produces videos and photos that really draw you into their story. Record the most dynamic, striking images, thanks to a high-quality NIKKOR lens with an f/2.8 max. aperture that enables shooting in lower light than many action cams. Electronic Vibration Reduction image stabilization keeps your videos sharp and steady, while a wind noise reduction feature provides clear sound.
Waterproof, shockproof and freezeproof with no additional housing
KeyMission 170 is ready to capture life, wherever it may lead. With no additional housing, it's waterproof down to 33-feet, freezeproof to 14°F, shockproof up to a drop of 6.6-feet and resistant to dust and grit. Take it to the beach, water parks, the pool, fishing, skiing, snowboarding, sledding, snorkeling—wherever the action is happening. Add the optional WP-AA1 Waterproof Housing, and KeyMission 170 can go as deep as 131-feet, perfect for SCUBA diving trips.
4K Ultra HD video with Electronic Vibration Reduction
Make your friends and family feel like they were there. Record in 4K Ultra HD at 30p, a resolution four times higher than Full HD, with clear stereo sound. Because the fine details are preserved in sharp, high resolution, your videos will draw people into them. Information about the camera's horizontal, vertical and rotational movements is recorded and then used to counteract vibrations and shakiness during playback for smooth, steady videos (Full HD only).
Built-in LCD and supplied remote control for easy operation
KeyMission 170 makes it easy to take beautiful photos and video, thanks to its intuitive menu and controls. Check your view and easily change settings using the built-in LCD screen. The supplied ML-L6 Remote Control enables shooting even in the heat of the action or while wearing gloves—start and stop recording and tag highlights to help with editing later. You can even use your smartphone as a remote monitor for KeyMission 170.
Built-in Wi-Fi® with Bluetooth® for instant sharing
Videos and photos from KeyMission 170 can be quickly viewed, edited and shared with a compatible smartphone and the SnapBridge 360/170 app. The app maintains a constant connection with KeyMission 170, giving you the power to set up the camera, shoot remotely, change settings and automatically transfer and share photos, all from a smartphone.
KeyMission 170 can be mounted just about anywhere. It includes a standard 1/4-inch socket for attaching to existing accessories, and Nikon offers more than 10 mounting accessories: adhesive and suction mounts, helmet and wrist straps, a chest harness, KeyMission extension arm, handy grip and more.
Use the supplied remote control to tag moments as highlights while they are happening. This makes editing so much easier, when you can quickly find all of your great moments. You can also combine all of your tagged moments into one epic video—a personal highlight reel.
With KeyMission 170, you can get really creative. Transform a long action sequence—like a bike ride on your favorite trail—into a thrilling time-lapse movie, or set Loop Recording to a time interval (from 5 minutes to 60 minutes) and capture short clips continuously.
Lightweight and compact, KeyMission 170 can be mounted and positioned where you need it, and it won't weigh you down when you're trying to enjoy the day. (Approx. dimensions: 66.4 x 46.8 x 42.7mm and weighs approx. 120g)
