The Kirk camera plate has extremely high quality design and construction values and fits the camera perfectly. The only weak point in the design is that it requires a tool (Allen wrench, supplied) to mount and dismount from the camera. This plate would rate 5-stars if it utilized a tool-less mounting feature.

This is a very solid plate and fits the D700 perfectly. I have a Markins plate for a D300, which may not be quite as sturdy, but has a much slimmer design. The Markins has grooves for the quick mount on all sides of the plate, while the Kirk only has grooves on two sides, front and back. Two extra features that the Kirk plate has are the screw stops that will prevent the camera from sliding out of the quick mount and a mount on one end of the plate for a safety strap.

The Kirk PZ-127 is an ultra-compact and lightweight quick release plate that is custom designed to snugly fit a Nikon D700 camera body. Machined from 6061-T6 industrial strength aluminum, it follows a weight-saving hollowed-out design. It also features an anti-slip lip that prevents the camera from rotating, especially during vertical shots.
