As a backup, keep-in-the-car camera it is very useable, high quality and friendly piece of camera equipment. With the great some reach I don't need to carry a bag with multiple lenses. Image quality is excellent up to about 600mm then deteriorates to some degree but is still usable.

This was my first bridge camera and first purchase from Adorama. I am SO impressed! I cannot believe how fast it was delivered. Customer Service was great at answering my questions prior to buying this camera. I will definitely buy from them again. The camera takes amazing pictures and has many, many cool features. I have already taken alot of precious pictures. I highly recommend this camera for anyone looking to buy a new camera.

I'm use to my DSLR so this takes a bit of getting use to. I wanted something lighter to take out for birds, ect. My 100-400mm lens is too heavy to handhold. I picked this one because I can manually zoom the camera with the ring and manually focus. It shoots RAW too.

Out of the box this camera is relatively easy to set up and start shooting. The zoom is soooooo powerful and the resulting far out there shots have unexpected tight, bright detail. Experimented at several greenhouses with macro settings and produced stunning full screen flower shots without being extra careful or even steady. Film simulation filters add vintage fun effects without post processing (wish there were more film types) Family and nature shots of fast moving children and birds yielded many great pics without really trying. Long battery life is as expected using manual zoom. This is the "bridge" camera I have been waiting for, takes great easy pics and doesn't cost a months rent. Great carry everywhere camera, starts fast so you don't miss those "I gotta get this" shots.

This camera is the best travel camera that I have owned. Despite the huge magnification range, images remain sharp over the whole focal length range. Of course, some distortion and softness in the edges are to be expected with this super-zoom. The best features are the manual zoom and hybrid auto-focus. This allows one to turn on the camera, frame, and shoot in less than a second. Color balance is good and not over-saturated as found in other cameras that I have owned. Also, the images are not over-processed, so the individual pixels are not smeared into blobs. Low-light photos are quite good with this larger and new sensor. My only complaint is that the auto-focus is concentrated in the center of the frame, which very often is not where the subject of the image is located. Manual adjustment of the focal point is possible to override this, but it takes a little longer to set up the image frame. Battery life also seems a little weak, but I need to do more extensive tests to see if this is a real problem. A spare battery is recommended for all-day shoots.

Great specs for the price. Great results for the price.

The biggest change is the overall speed of operation of the camera; it pulls into sharp focus and good exposure very quickly. Secondly, the long zoom at 42:1 produces a sharper image than the 30:1 of the hs30. Thirdly, the swing out screen is a big plus feature. One minus is the EXR setting sometimes gives unpredictable results especially in low light. A second minus, so far, is the movie seems to jump. This may have been caused by using a class 4 memory card. I have replaced the card with a class 10 but have not tried it yet.

I was researching this camera for 3 months before you could buy it.... Finally got one & LOVE it. It can do EVERYTHING ! Great features, tons of creative settings, lightweight, easy to handle, incredible lens. It is easy to operate, once you learn where everything is. There is so much you can do, and it takes a while to get familiar with the menus & such. Still experimenting with the settings, but so far it is a dream.

Had the Fujifilm FinePix HS35EXR Digital Camera, but was able to return it, when this model came out. Because of the extended zoom, the fully articulated LCD, increased pixels of the LCD, and finally the significantly decreased auto focus time. This camera is a joy.

I think Fuji has a winner on its hands. As long as you keep telling yourself that this is not an SLR, it should please the discerning amateur who wants to have a decent camera without having to lug around additional lenses. I've owned both the HS10 and HS20 in the past. This newest iteration is faster, even more versatile, and just about the perfect all-around bridge-type camera - at least in my opinion. It acts like an SLR with that nice manual zoom ring. The new Advanced filters are a welcome addition and are great to have when applied to appropriate shots - and not over-used. I've been practicing with the HS50 EXR for a couple weeks now, and have yet to find any major negatives that would cause me to complain. Your mileage may vary. I give the camera 4.5 stars (couldn't do a half star on the rating selection). The only reason I didn't give it 5 was I don't think one can tell another person any camera is "perfect" - although, I feel it's a perfect addition to my collection of cameras.

HS50EXR Digital Camera Amazing

Had the Fujifilm FinePix HS35EXR Digital Camera, but was able to return it, when this model came out. Because of the extended zoom, the fully articulated LCD, increased pixels of the LCD, and finally the significantly decreased auto focus time. This camera is a joy.
The Fujifilm FinePix HS50EXR Digital Camera (Black) features Fujinon optical 42x manual zoom lens (24 - 1000mm) that effectively combines aspherical lenses, ED lens and integrated lenses to achieve a bright aperture rating of f/2.8 - 5.6 and image stabilization. Super Macro mode allows close-up shooting from as near as 1cm and the manual barrel zoom ensures speedy, intuitive control of the camera.
Controlled by the convenient Function (Fn) button, the Intelligent Digital Zoom offers an astonishing 84x magnification power, the equivalent of a 2000mm focal length. In addition to magnifying the image, the EXR sensor intelligently minimizes noise in flat areas and sharpens and enhances contrast in edge areas and to create natural clarity and crispness even at super-telephoto magnification. Intelligent Digital Zoom also functions in EXR AUTO mode, to guarantee you exceptional shots with minimal effort.
All the lens elements used in the FinePix HS50EXR have been treated with multilayer Super EBC (Electron Beam Coating), the same process used for Fujinon broadcasting video lenses and large-format camera lenses acclaimed by professionals. Reducing ghosting and lens flare, the treatment promises clear image quality.
