This purchase is intended as an upgrade to my ColorMunki Photographer Kit. My overall assessment to the tools included and features of the i1 Studio greatly increased my productivity and streamlined my workflow by reducing the amount of paper used to acquire the desired print.

I have yet to fully use this but as far as reaching someone at X-rite for service or questions. This is already way better than Datacolor. Good luck getting anything answered in a timely manner from them.

This thing does everything I could want from a calibration perspective. Having just set up my own Giclee print capability, it has been an essential piece of the process. That said, it has not been easy to get to know. The dial to switch between measure and calibrate is smooth, slippery and difficult to turn - especially with arthritic hands - and almost impossible whilst still in its protection bag. This is highly frustrating and inconvenient. There is a shutter in the bag - not on the device itself - that needs to be open to calibrate anything - its existence is not obviously indicated and until I finally discovered it, spent two days incorrectly calibrating and causing my BenQ monitor to deliver utterly haywire profiles! I drove the BenQ support folks mad too (sorry chaps)! Great technology that needs a little usability training!

I picked up one of these on sale to see if it would help out when I print some of my photos. Here are some of my thoughts on the experience, thus far: Packaging was solid and secure. And I like the neoprene holder for screen calibration. I'll keep it in there for some additional protection against bumps and scrapes until I need to pull it out for print calibration again. I've heard the previous generation of the software was a pain to use. Fortunately, I found the latest version to be relatively easy to use. The step-by-step walk-through right in the software was nice, and I was able to find videos showing how to use the i1Studio on YouTube, made by X-Rite technicians. They helped explain a few of the settings and steps. Calibration for my screens and printer (Canon Pixma Pro-100) went smoothly, though it does take time for ink to dry properly, so don't expect it to be a quick process if you calibrate your printer. My screens definitely required some adjustments. They were overly-bright and cool. They appear much more neutral now, which is good. Just keep in mind that changes in ambient light and color tone will affect how you perceive images, and would require another calibration to match your prints. And each paper type will require a different calibration. The hardware seems good and durable. It's mostly plastic, but that's fine. The calibration seems to work pretty easily and quickly. My only gripe is that turning the wheel to the correct setting is pretty stiff. It registers well with a click into each setting, but it can be tough to turn, especially while in the neoprene holder. Lastly, the results were pretty good. I still need to do more testing, but the calibration process was easy to do. And my prints seem to reflect the screen better than they had before. They're still not perfect replications, but that's expected. They're not the same media displaying the image. But I feel more confident that I'll waste less paper and ink trying to get the look I want on paper. Overall, definitely recommended. Would give it about 4.5 stars, but rounded up for this review.

So far I have used this on 3 monitors and a printer, the results are good. The actual hardware is a little awkward at first but after the first couple of monitors I had it nailed. The YouTube videos do help especially when it comes to rotating the selector.

It calibrated my computer to the printer and worked perfectly, I'd buy it again and again.

Monitor Calibration and Profiling
Once you take the guesswork and frustration out of making sure the color you see on your display is the color you expect from your printer, you'll save time and money and gain full creative control over your images. i1Studio uses advanced technologies to perfect the match between your display and printer.
Intelligent Iterative Profiling: An adaptive technology that produces optimized results for maximum color accuracy on each unique display every time you profile
Flare Correct measures and adjusts your display profile for reduced contrast ratios caused by flare light (or glare) falling on surface of display. By accurately measuring your effective display contrast ratio, you'll have an even more accurate display profile
X-Rite Ambient Light Measurement - automatically determine the optimum display luminance for comparing prints to your display, based on a measurement of the lighting conditions where prints will be viewed
Video Standards Support: NTSC, PAL SECAM, Rec. 709, Rec. 2020 and DCI-P3
Extended User Controls: Custom control of white point, luminance, contrast ratio and gamma. Also, measure other displays or light sources and use as targets
Multiple Monitor Profiling: Color match up to four separate displays for color accuracy across all your workflow
Profile Validation and Reminder: View before and after results with included images or load your own or use the 3D profile gamut viewer; set reminder intervals to re-profile your display
Projector Calibration and Profiling
Now, your projected presentations can look the same as your monitor. Build an accurate projector profile in just minutes - it's as easy as building a monitor profile. The process takes all the room conditions into consideration - projected colors, screen color and room lighting - so you can be confident that your projected images are showing the way you intended.
Scanner Calibration and Profiling
Scanner profiling is super easy. Simply scan and crop your target to generate a high quality ICC profile. Supports these targets: ColorChecker Classic (Standard and Mini sizes), ColorChecker Digital SG, Reflective IT 8.7/2, Transmissive 4x5 and 35mm IT8.7/1.
RGB and CMYK Printer Profiling
Intelligent iterative profiling technology ensures your output is reproduced accurately from print to print and from printer to printer, delivering professional quality results for smoothness, highlight and shadow detail.
i1Studio's superfast scanning can rapidly measure test charts in less than one minute! Simply scan one 50-patch test chart and i1Studio will learn how your printer behaves with these colors and dynamically generate a second chart of 50 patches. Then print and scan this second chart of 50 patches and your profile is perfected
Option to save your test targets as TIFF files to print later or for use on a remote printer. i1Studio also supports various paper sizes
i1Studio even has the ability to optimize your printer profile for specific colors, flesh tones or captured spot colors. i1Studio creates a 3rd test target based on extracted colors from an image and/or spot colors captured by your i1Studio device. Load your profile, generate your test target, measure and save. It's that easy
Black and White Profiling (New)
Utilizing the same intelligent iterative profiling technology for color prints, our B&W module is specifically engineered to ensure the highest quality results for your black and white prints, resulting in exceptional smoothness, highlight and shadow detail.
Simply scan one 50-patch test chart and i1Studio will learn how your printer behaves with these colors and dynamically generate a second chart of 100 patches to better define neutrals. Print and scan this second chart and your B&W profile is now perfected
Once you've converted your image to B&W and are ready to print, simply apply your custom B&W profile
There is also the option to create a profile for a specific B&W look including High Contrast Neutral, Platinum or Sepia. For those of you who love B&W printing, prepare to be amazed.
