whether connection via hdmi or opitical, the speaker does not sound that loud. without the woofer it would be a complete disappointment. did try some faqs and emailed Sony but no joy there. it could well be the wrong sound bar for the tv. kd55x9005, although the Sony rep said it will work fine, that's a matter of opinion.

I don't know about the naysayers, but I am sooooo happy with the performance of this unit. Are you kidding me??? I paid $229.00 for this bad boy and now it is out of stock. If you are lucky, on a bit of a budget, and find one, buy it. Now. I know Best buy and Costco have some left. If you doubt check out the reviews from virtually every credible reviewer ie: PC mag Thank you Sony. I am back on board with you.

Subwoofer cuts out during quiet scenes resulting in sounding tinny until it cuts back in. Plus when navigating around the UI on your cable/satellite set top box it misses the first couple of beeps and you can hear the Soundbar click as if it's trying to connect and then click off again when you stop moving around the UI. Spent hours trying to fix issue, even with Sony support but still no joy.

Excellent sound, much better than the tv speakers. Could do with a little more difference between the pre-set audio modes.

Fitted to a Sony TV via HDMI lead so it was immediately recognised and sound functions via the TV remote control. Accompanying instructions for set up are clear and it didn't take long before we experienced greatly improved sound quality. The wireless sub-woofer is very impressive, sometimes it is too base and makes the room shake! Initially placed the sound-bar in front of the TV and used the pass-through facility to relay remote control signals to the TV however we feel the sound-bar is actually quite ugly and have now placed it behind the TV without any noticeable degradation to the sound quality or sound distribution. Have found that the sound does occasionally revert to the TV speakers and then drifts back to the sound-bar, also if starting our Sony hard disk recorder at the same time as starting the TV we get no sound at all and have to restart the TV.

I received this sound bar and sub-woofer last Feb as a gift and I was originally very please. But as time went on the item began to fail like all other Sony products I have purchased in recent years. The sound quality was great for the price and was wonderful for movies and playing music through and the sub made a huge and wonderful impact. In the recent months the bluetooth sub has been cutting out while watching movies and completely shutting off (Power still on) while streaming music through via bluetooth, AUX adapter, provided cable, and HDMI cable. As soon as I try to adjust the volume of the sub woofer it cuts out and provides no bass from the sub. I have had no help with Sony customer service as their only suggestion was to not turn up the speaker too loud. Kind of defeats the purpose to me. I have slowly began throwing away my Sony products and replacing them with different manufacturers because the last 4 out of 4 Sony products I have purchased have failed within 6-12 months. Very disappointed, I do NOT recommend anything Sony to anyone....unless you want to throw away your money.

Good sound. Sub woofer works well. Design minimises the use of trailing wires.

returned this product due to a known fault which has been around for nearly two years (see http://www.community.sony.com/t5/Home-Theater-Products/HT-CT260-Sound-Issues/td-p/45693)

Negatives:Complicated remote, poor treble response and intermittent sub woofer operation. The system is difficult to use with menu on remote, you need to master the instructions first, before being able to use it effectively. Positives: Nice design and plenty of connectivity options. Optical cable included.

I'm happy with this purchase, and gave it 5 stars for a sound bar in this price range. A high-end system like Bose may sound better, but i didn't feel like spending a couple grand on this particular setup. Sounds amazing. Have had only one other sound bar which was a Samsung (roughly the same price as the Sony) and the sony blew it out of the water in sound quality/clarity/bass. A perfect compliment for your favorite concert/music channel and movies. Have had no negative issues with this product in 1.5 years of use.

Bought this 4 weeks ago and generally works well if a little complicated. Sounds great and good bluetooth link for playing music on phones or streaming via spotify. On occasions the basebox disconnects and reconnect randomly.

I have had this sound bar for almost 1 month. I have been completely satisfied! My wife gave me a sound bar for Father's Day this year to accompany our new Sony Bravia. It was a Philips sound bar with wireless sub. I was impressed with the sound, but even when hooked up through HDMI ARC, the picture was never in sync with the audio and the audio sync adjustment on the sound bar could not correct it. in addition, the sub would intermittently cut out during movie or tv playback. I took it back after a week and bought the Sony. OH MY WORD AT THE DIFFERENCE! if I want, the bass will lift me up off the floor! Voices are clear, audio is in sync always, sub is constant, setup is easy & choices are abundant. I also love that there is a nighttime setting that cuts the bass down and brings out the voices clearly so as not to disturb others. Bass is still full and completes the sound field, but is not punchy. I have been very impressed with this purchase and would highly recommend this sound bar to anyone. Sony has a reputation for quality, and this seems to match the quality of the other Sony products that I own.

I've had two BOSE Sound bars and so far this one has outlasted both which died within a month. . Love the wireless Subwoofer. Right now the Soundbar is in front of the TV and works great in this position. The one and only problem I have ( why only 3 stars) is when I'm turning down the volume by holding the button down or clicking fast on it the Soundbar will just turn off. Not Good!

I purchased this sound bar recently along with a blue ray player to replace an outdated dvd home cinema as I needed a smaller system After moving home, I was very pleased initially although I am starting to have issues with the wireless sub.in that the bass drops in and out, I have placed the sub In numerous places and find it works best pretty much right next to the bar

Really sounds good. That said, HDMI connection takes a while to activate sound when TV starts up (Sony KDL52EX700). Communication is lost to subwoofer module at varying and intermittent intervals. Remote is woefully underpowered for even a short throw.

Amazing sound in a compact package

I am living in a small apartment now and no longer have room for all the speaker wire and cables needed for my old surround system. Plus it was very heavy and had started acting up. I was amazed to discover the great sound quality and depth of base I got from this soundbar system. it fits beautifully under my TV; and with the blue tooth capability, I will no longer have to worry about tripping over wires. Installation was a snap as well. I did lots of research before purchase and this soundba...

The Most Affordable & Powerful Setup On A Budget

I Purchased this sound bar after 3 months of research to help improve my movie viewing experience and immersion. What you get in this package is a great sound bar and an amazing subwoofer. The Bravia Sync work well for communicating between all my devices with the occasional de-sync when fast switching inputs. Lets be clear; is it the best sounding system, no and the design is slightly eccentric for all taste, but if your like me and are budget conscious with limited space then the CT260H is ...
