It's been a great lens, I'm still using it on my Z6iii, with the an adapter, of course.

I bought this lens to replace an earlier version. This FL version is less cumbersome to hold/carry and I feel it is sharper corner to corner. Auto focus is fast and accurate.

So far this lens holds up to all the reviews I have read about it. The VR is very good and works very well in low light. AF works very well with my Nikon D850. I've only used it handheld so far. It's a bit heavier than I'm used to holding, but surprisingly the VR makes it possible to get good shots handheld. The zoom range makes it very versatile. And very sharp handheld at higher shutter speeds. As an intermediate level hobbyist photographer, I can see this lens challenging me to improve my skills. It's now my favorite lens.

This lens is an amazing tool. It is more than "acceptably sharp" at F2.8. It's color rendition and image quality are on par with the best primes, and that's no exaggeration. While I am looking to add another Nikon mirrorless camera to my bag, I am in no hurry to replace this lens because it performs wonderfully on both DSLR and mirrorless.

Because I own a Z9, a Z6, a D5 and an D810, I debated whether to purchase the new 70-200 Z lens or go with the 700 -200 FL ED version as I was looking to upgrade from the older 70-200 ED VR II. I ordered them both and in the end, I choose the 70-200 FL ED VR and sent the "Z" version back. I liked the fact that it is still made in Japan and it felt better on the camera to me. It is definitely an upgrade and seems to lock on faster in low light. It's super crisp as well. You do have to get used to the fact that the focus ring and the zoom ring are in opposite places from the older version but once you get that mastered you are golden. I do recommend it to anyone that has the older version and is on the fence as to whether or not to upgrade.

This lens is a legend, forgiving the photographer's mishaps, it makes it up with its superior technology and science, no doubt it is what makes DSLR forever sought after ( D850 in my case). I will never go mirrorless. NO NEED TO.

I have no idea where I stand as far as skill level, but I have received many compliments on my photos. I started with a D5600 and a few kit lens? then stepped up to a D850 and this 70-200 mm lens. I can not provide a technical review but I can tell you that all my favorite pictures are the ones taken with this lens. With the D850 / 70-200 lens combination, I can crop in to a photo taken from 50 feet away and see the detail of each thread of a sport coat. It is so disappointing when I need to switch it out for one of my wider angle lens?. Is it worth the money? Of corse that is relative, but it does take beautiful pictures and for me, it was worth every penny. My wife may disagree but even she admits that the photos look professional.

I shoot a lot of youth to college sports and this is my go to lens. Excellent image quality and focus speed. On my D500 it is equivalent to a 105-300 f2.8. I also use it on my Z6ii with the FTZ adapter and it works perfectly. I would highly recommend this lens!

I've only just started to play with this new lens but can tell it is substantial. Well constructed and heavy but it has the speed I'm looking to have for photographing animals. Looking forward to getting to know it better and really looking forward to putting on teh3 2x teleconverter. I'm using this lens on a crop frame sensor.

I had the previous version until November 2019 when I sold my lens to a tour guide in India who fell in love with it. Little did I know that it was going to take me this long to get the last model due to lack of availability. Love it.

Significant improvement over the 70-200mm f/2.8G VRII. It does take some time to become acclimated to the swapped positions of the zoom and focus rings. Works equally well on native F-mount and adapted via FTZ to Z-mount bodies. AF is fast and accurate. Optics are excellent.

This lens is the best lens I own, and have owned, and I have some nice glass.! It's speed and accuracy is in a league of it's own, it is extremely precise, yet very fast. I bought it along with a tele-converter, TC-17E 1.7x, the quality of the glass is so good, if there is a loss in sharpness or quality when using the tele-converter I am yet to see it! I bought another brand before purchasing this one, I tried it for a few days then returned it, while it was a good lens, it is no match for this one. If you love photography, you will love this lens, regardless of the level you are at.

I ordered this lens and accessories over Thanksgiving weekend. I have used this lens several times with my D850 and my older D7100. It worked great with each of them. I like the f2.8 maximum appature for its light gathjering capability. It is a monster of a lens, but not too hard to handle either handheld or with a tripod. I believe I will enjoy using it in the years to come. Great purchase at a great price. I was glad to see the the accessory package included both a UV and a circular polarizing filter. That save me even more money that the rebate. The other accessories will also be useful.

This Lens is a workhorse that has craftsmanship all over it. The autofocus in this lens is outstandingly fast and sharp. The monopod / tripod bracket is a great addition to support the weight of the lens. Highly commended.

Only used enough for a cursory lens test so far. The lens clearly beat my 80-200 2.8 ED and 70-300 f/4. Of course the reversal of the zoom & focus rings is hard to get used to. Ordering through Adorama was a rocky process and wish I’d have stuck with B&H. They’re much easier to work with and I’d feel more confident that they wouldn’t send me a lens that’s been returned. (Adorama offered a free tripod with the lens but now I’m thinking it wasn’t worth it.)

Epic winner 'must own Nikkor', from someone that KNOWS lenses
By Nikkorguru
Owned nearly every Nikkor made in the past 40 years & professionally review & test lenses. This new NIKKOR 70-200 f2.8E FL has 1. incredible bandwidth (saturation). 2. unbelievable resolution 3. stellar bokeh 4. 25%+ approx faster AF tracking 5. Is very lightweight 6. higher T-stop than prior version. Out of countless 100s of lens reviews, this NIKKOR 70-200 f2.8E FL is the ONLY very expensive I've rated as a must-own masterpiece. Kudos to Nikon on this divine optical gem! Its work EVERY penny
Unbelievably sharp and super fast AF - Though still focus breathes (although improved)

I have only had this lens for a day, but so far from the test shots / portraits I've taken... wide open performance is extremely sharp on the D810 at all focal lenghts. Super fine detail and great contrast at f/2.8 make stopping down something I will only ever do if I need extra depth of field. This thing is built like a tank and the reversed rings are something to get used to... but I personally use the tripod collar to support the lens and, in doing so, i'm able to place it on the palm of ...

The AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR has four focus function buttons right on the lens barrel, perfect for engaging autofocus or AF Lock*. The zoom and focus rings have reversed positions for more comfortable, stable zooming. Its magnesium alloy barrel, High Refractive Index (HRI) lens element and lightweight Fluorite (Fl) element located near the front of the optical group keep the lens evenly balanced. The tripod collar ring spins on ball bearings for smooth transitions between horizontal and vertical shooting.
Shoot with the aperture wide open at f/2.8 across the entire zoom range—from 70mm to 200mm—for sharp, bright images with smooth, creamy background blur. Close focus has been improved from 4.6 feet (1.4m) to approx. 3.6 feet (1.1m), allowing for stunning close-up portraits. Combined with a high-ISO Nikon DSLR,the AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR opens new possibilities for capturing indoor sports, wildlife at dusk and dawn, wedding receptions and so much more.
You don't get a second chance to capture the decisive moment, and weather conditions rarely cooperate. The AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR is designed for exactly these moments. An all new weather-sealing design ensures you can keep shooting through nearly any condition. Every movable part of the lens barrel—nine parts in all—are extensively sealed for dust and water drop resistance. Additionally, the front lens element is coated with Nikon's non-stick Fluorine coat, resisting dirt, fingerprints and smudges.
Camera movement during exposure robs sharpness. It's that simple. Nikon's VR image stabilization has ben enhanced from 3.5 stops to up to ~4.0 stops**, a must-have feature when working handheld, on a monopod or even a tripod. A specialized Sports Mode is optimized for camera pans and fast-action sports, and the Tripod Mode eliminates the subtle ground vibrations that are constantly passing through a tripod or monopod. Capture subjects with outstanding sharpness, even in low light.
The lens incorporates an electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism. The following cameras are compatible with this lens:
Smooth focusing operation in Manual focus mode is realized with conventional manual-focus lenses by adding an appropriate torque to the focus ring.
An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.
Highly accurate electronic diaphragm or aperture blade control when using auto exposure during continuous shooting. With conventional D/G type lenses, the diaphragm blades are operated by mechanical linkage levers.
Fluorite (FL), a lightweight mono-crystal optical material, has excellent optical properties while reducing overall lens weight to improve balance and handling, especially useful in longer focal length lenses.
HRI stands for High Refractive Index Lens. With a refractive index of more than 2.0, one HRI lens can offer effects equivalent to those obtained with several normal glass elements and can compensate for both field curvature and spherical aberrations.
A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing. Thus, IF NIKKORS do not change in size during AF operation, allowing for compact, lightweight lenses capable of closer focusing distances. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel.
Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens. This makes it possible to seamlessly switch to fine manual focusing while looking through the viewfinder.
Virtually eliminates internal lens element reflections across a wide range of wavelengths. Nano Crystal Coat uses ultrafine, nano-sized* crystal particles to eliminate reflections inside the lens throughout the spectrum of visible light waves.
Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor (SWM) technology converts “traveling waves” into rotational energy to focus the optics.
Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.
Find the perfect balance of agility and optical performance with the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR Lens. This next-generation fast zoom lens is designed for Nikon FX-format digital SLR cameras, offering a consistently fast maximum aperture of f/2.8 across its entire zoom range.
Weighing approximately 3.85 oz less than its predecessor, the AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II, this lens enhances the photographer's shooting experience, reducing fatigue during long shooting sessions. Its weather-resistant structure, complete with anti-dust and waterdrop-resistant capabilities, makes it a reliable companion for shooting in diverse environments.
The lens features Nikon's exclusive fluorine coat on the front surface, providing high antifouling performance and peel-resistant properties. This lens is not just lighter and more durable, but it also offers better resolution throughout the entire zoom range, maintaining that resolution right to the edges of the frame.
The lens incorporates one fluorite, one High Refractive Index (HRI) lens, and six ED glass elements, effectively compensating for a variety of aberrations. Coupled with the ghost- and flare-reducing Nano Crystal Coat, this lens ensures the ultimate in rendering characteristics.
The fast f/2.8 maximum aperture across the 70-200mm zoom range enables a shallow depth of field and large background blur, emphasizing the primary subject. The Vibration Reduction (VR) function ensures a stable viewfinder image, making it easy to track even fast and erratically moving subjects.
The lens also features a SPORT mode, perfect for maintaining focus on rapidly moving subjects during high-speed continuous shooting. The VR function activates instantly upon half-pressing of the shutter-release button, providing a stable viewfinder image and fine resulting images with maximized blur-reduction effect.
The lens also boasts an electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism, ensuring consistently stable exposure control, even with high-speed continuous shooting. With a reduced minimum focus distance and increased maximum reproduction ratio, this lens enables photographic expression similar to close-up shooting.
The lens design also considers the finest details, including four focus function buttons and a tripod collar ring for quick and smooth switching between horizontal and vertical shooting orientations. The AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR Lens is a versatile tool for professional and amateur photographers alike, ideal for genres such as press, sports, advertising, portrait, and wedding photography.
