After renting this lens last year to use during our annual beach vacation, I fell in love with it. As our trip approaches this year, I knew I wanted to take it with me again, but didn't feel that renting it every year would be the best financial decision. It is just an all around fun lens and adds such an amazing variety to my family of lenses. If you are looking for a new perspective on your images, you will not be disappointed!

I am amazed that Nikon touts in their literature regarding this lens as having a 180° field of view. The actual field of view is NOT 180° but rather approx. 165° which is nothing to be disappointed with. I will state without reservations that this is an outstanding lens that opens up many creative possibilities. Here is more food for thought: This lens can be used with a Canon full frame camera using a Fotodiox conversion ring and obtain full frame coverage. I have used this lens with a Canon 5DS R with outstanding results and it is much lighter and one third the cost of Canon's new 11-24mm lens and wider coverage too. You will be truly amazed by the endless possibilities with this lens.

This has become a very important lens to me since I bought it. When I travel light, and that is most of the time I go with two lenses. My 28-300 and this 16mm 2.8 FE. I use the D700 and I have printed 30x40 prints using this lens, I am nuts about it. When you use Nikon capture NX2 to can straighten the FE lines for the widest wide angle lens available. If you want a new perspective you have it with this lens. It is very simply part of my photography.

Since the advent of the full frame FX sensor, the Nikon 16mm "fisheye" lens has been resurrected. The two photos below were taken with a Nikon D700 camera body. Resolution is excellent and depth of field is infinite, even at large apertures. The stadium photo and bike race photo were taken with the following respective settings: shutter speed of 1/800 of a second--1/200 of a second, aperture of f/7.1--f/5.6, ISO of 200--200, Auto White Balance--Auto White Balance, and Matrix Metering--Matrix Metering.

I've wanted a Fisheye for fifty years when I had my first Nikon, a Nikkorex-F. I've had this lens now for over a year and have had so much fun using it with my D800E, as it opens so many opportunities for creative perspective. Unlike the original Fisheye with a circular image, this Fisheye completely fills the FX frame and does so with outstanding sharpness. If you are careful with composition, lines can be controlled in a very reasonable manner. Images produced with this lens are truly unique. This truly is an outstanding Nikkor lens and is fast becoming one of my favorites. One criticism for Nikon though is the terrible front lens cap that is so easily dislodged. Nikon can do far better in redesigning this front lens cap.

Magnifique super grand angle pour des paysages sous-marins et des épaves Ou des premiers plans rapprochés (25cm mise au point minimale) avec des arrières plans nets même à des ouvertures de 8

I purcahsed this lens mainly to shoot the Aurora Borealis but find my self using it for many other applications. The lens is tack sharp and works well for shooting groups indoors. There are several software packages that allow you to flatten the image it you do not like the "fish eye" look. The only complaint I have with the 16mm is the lens cap which does not fit well and you will loose it if you do not take some measure not to. I use a couple of small pieces of gaffers tape to keep it in place. It would be nice if Nikon would fix this.

This lens has an amazing quality. Pros: 1) Very creative shots 2) Lightweight lens 3) Very clear shots Cons: 1) Short length of lens w/ lack of a real hood and no way to mount one, creates the perfect storm for flash flare. If you use a diffuser on your flash you will get flare into your lens. My work around is to use my hand as a shield as if I were trying to keep out the sun. 2) There is no way to protect the lens from scratching. There is no filter mount and no way to attach a larger hood. One scratch and the lens could be ruined. 3) The lens cap is way too loose. Simple gravity will take this cap right off of the lens. Plus the replacement cap is $40. I would really give this lens 4.6 stars if I could. The fantastic optics more than make up for the cons I listed above. The creative look and feel of my shots has taken my photography to another level. Love this little lens.

I use this lens for a very specific interior photography process and it performs to the highest standards that I expected. It has extremely consistent output and is a jewel to work with.

Everyone is familiar with the "bent lines" in fisheye pictures. This lens is great for capturing a very wide angle in a square image. It is also great for making virtual reality 3-d panoramas. It is easy enough to estimate 45 degrees by stretching the index and middle finger as far as they will go in the plane of the hand and to take eight pictures around the clock and tilted slightly downward using nothing more than a convenient stick for a pivot point. Software will then combine those images into a nice Virtual Reality image. One more shot straight up will almost complete the sphere (except for straight down). The fisheye can also be "de-fished" by software to emulate a non-fisheye wide angle linear lens (14-24 for example). Hard to miss a subject with such a wide view. In short ... good for things other than standard fisheye views.

I use the fisheye fairly often. Why not? It is light weight and the subjects I shoot lend themselves well to fisheye photography.

terrific little lens that I use mainly for concert photography. Nice and sharp, and controls flare well. Lens hood is my only complaint, as it comes of easily in my bag, exposing the bulbous front element. Fisheyes by their nature have limited use, but if you want one, this is recomended

been hesitant about purchasing a fisheye as it always seem more of a gimick than a tool. I have found it to be a great tool in the lens and creative arsenal. Very surprising results with landscapes as well as interesting results shooting golf courses and action. Tack sharp with tremendous clarity in depth of field if desired

I've been involved with Nikon equipment for a long time. My favorite lens is my 16 mm fisheye. I purchased it used in NYC back in the 80's. I even use my fisheye as a trade mark for some wedding shots for clients. Five of the photographs displayed were taken with my D700 & Nikkor 16 mm Fisheye. The Wedding photograph was taken with my D200 & Nikkor 10.5 mm Fisheye.

I buy all my lenses for film cameras, but when I was experimenting with portraits on my D200 this 16mm fisheye was performing miracles for me. Half of the time when I was shooting from an angle that prevented me from looking through the viewfinder, I was able to capture the scene I had in my head. Same goes for concert photography when you're right up front and in the band's face with your camera, this thing's focus performs admirably from any aperture.

While not a lens I use a great deal, it has a vital place in my photographic arsenal. Stunningly sharp, light, and fun. On my D700 it compliments my 10.5mm on my D2X. This lens will remain with me for a very long time.

This is a very nice, super-compact fisheye. My only complaint is that it is an old lens and thus does not have instant manual override of the autofocus system available on the newer lenses. You have to switch the camera to manual focus to use manual focus which is a pain. (I use a D700). Lack of IS is not a problem and keeps it very small and compact. It is even smaller than my 8mm Zuiko fisheye for my Oly E-3. I use the lens for anything that catches my eye as being a good subject for the fisheye and have some stunning shots with it.

The 16mm 180 degree fisheye is an amazingly sharp and contrasty lens. I have no problem including the sun in my photos, because this lens has no flare or ghosting problems! This lens on my D3 or D700 performs incredibly at f8 or f11. It is great for tight interiors where my AFS 14-24mm can't cover everything. I modified the wide angle lens caps to fit better and keep dust out by using self adhesive felt between the inside ridges of the plastic cap. The photo is a Full frame D700 shot of the inside of a 35 in. by 35 in. Light tent filled with around a hundred AF 35mm 2.0 D lenses shot from 2 feet away from the middle of the group with no lens correction software adjustments.

I have the 10.5 FE which I purchased while using a D2X. Now I have two D3 bodies and it was just time to change to the new sensor-correct glass. Expensive? Frustrating?.....Yeah, maybe! But I am continually updating everything else, so why not the glass too? I have been more than pleased with the 10.5mm and the 16mm has proven, thus far, to match that standard.

I am amazed every time I use this lens. I keep this lens tucked in my bag for almost every outing. Sometimes I find myself surrounded by closed in spaces or an area that has converging lines. This is when I bring this lens out it makes these spaces open up and provide a spectacular effect. The lens is a fish eye so straight lines curve and with a tillt of the lens will add drama to the photo. This lens is sharp and easy to use. The small light lens makes it a welcome addition to any camera bag. Best used on FX cameras.

I have never been a Fish Eye fan until I bought this one. I use it on about anything I can find to use it on. When you use Nikon Capture NX2 to straighten the lines it adds another dimension to my photography. It is always part of my travel gear which consists of A. 16 FE B. 18-35 Nikkor C. 24-120 G VR D. 50 1.4 G E. 70-300 G VR F. D700

I bought this lens expecting that it would provide an occasional unique perspective. But if it's going to stay unique, you can't use it too much, right? What I found is that it can be used in far more situations than I anticipated, and I'm finding more all the time. With appropriate software it is really good with people in a tight crowd (don't try to correct to rectilinear, use cylindrical correction for more natural looking people images). Because it is so small, it can go along for the ride.

I had this lens since 1993 love it, popular in the Art world, it it great for photographing functions , weddings with a bit of abstraction as well landscape shots, express it your way, it is handy when you can not be bother bringing a panorama camera with you especially with FX format. 15 years ago I accidentally drop this lens down 10 concrete steps and not a single lens went out alignment and no lens breakage, no loss of quality, super tough Nikon

I LOVE my 10.5mm fisheye. But when I'm using my D3, I turn to the 16mm for its full frame coverage. It's a great little lens and compact enough to carry in a pocket. Looking to make your work stand out or going for a different look...this is the lens for you!
