I have used this scanner for over two years now, digitizing my family slides, prints and negatives. Without a doubt, this is the most amazing, simple and time saving machine I have ever owned. I am not a professional photographer trying to get large scale, perfect blow up prints. I am simply an amateur trying to save over a hundred years of family photos. This scanner is PERFECT. Don't even waste time trying to use Silverfast or Photoshop, the Epson software gets it right and allows you to tweak the color or contrast of the few off shots during the preview. I loved being able to scan multiple slides and negatives at one time, but was blown away to see it would also capture as many prints as I could fit without touching on the glass.

I mainly use the scanner for imaging artworks and for scanning medium format negatives and positives. I'm a photographer who still shoots film and has a huge archive of negatives and positives I need to scan in order to create digital files for safe keeping. So far the scanner is working really well, no problems what so ever. I've had experience in graduate school with this scanner so I was well researched by the time I purchased my own. Couldn't be happier with quality and performance. The Silverfast software which comes with the scanner has customization tools, which can further the look and feel of your scans. All in all a very nice machine and I recommend it for artists/professionals.

This has been such a great purchase. I am using it to scan vintage photos of family and community as well as to scan years of children's art so I can make each of them a personal book. The color is great .... some photos have dark areas in them and the software provided has been great at evening out the color. It also shows the glitter in children's art!

Have had 25 years of film negatives to scan. Just couldn't find a good scanner for the right price until I happened on the Epson reviews. For approximately $, I don't think you can beat it. For 16 highest quality 35mm color film, it takes about 2 hours to scan using the ICE technology. It would be nice if it were faster, but I just load up the trays, start the scan and go about my business while it does its thing and I go about my day. Most scans come out very well and I am very pleased with the result. The Epson software is alright, but not spectacular for a non-professional. I"ve never used something like it before, but I figured it out well enough to get the basic scans done. The biggest negative has been black and white negatives. When blown up, they are quite grainy and the software turns some of the picture into what looks like thick Sharpie type lines or blobs. That could well be a function of the original film quality, so it may not be a problem with the scanner or software. Over all, if I don't blow them up larger than an 8x10 equivalent, they look just fine.

Definitely a fine piece of equipment. Pretty easy to download OS10.8 software for the scanner. But upgrading to the bundled scanning software SilverFast 8 was a lot more difficult. Their tech support is in Germany. Took me three calls and I still have an issue to resolve.

I'm in the process of scanning all on my old slides, negatives (35mm, 220, 4x5) and prints. This scanner does a great job. It scans 12 slides or 24 35mm slides at a time so you can load it up and go away for a while. The scans are very sharp. Even the grain in the negatives is very sharp. The Digital Ice works great when it works (not Kodachrome) and saves a bunch of retouching. I had to scan some stereo slides for which there was no holder but I could just place them on the glass and scan them. The scanner is a bit slow (esp. with Digital Ice on) which I can live with for the quality. The software is not great but it works (I've never seen good scanner software). I've scanned around 7000 images it's still working great.

I collect vintage slides and negative, and still shoot film on occasion. After having a slide badly scratched for the third time by the photo lab I was using I decided to go ahead and purchase a scanner. I didn't have the buget for both a flatbed scanner and a dedicated film scanner for small format shots, so after some research I settled on the Epson V700. I recieved it quickly from Adorama (as usual). The scanner is very easy to set up, although the directions are a little sparse. The software installed fine on Windows 7. Although the included software is very basic, it is easy to use and will be fine for most users. If you desire something more advanced there are several after-market programs with many more options. After getting everything hooked up and installed it was time to scan some photos. First the pros, my first scan was of a 4X5" 1940s erea B&W negative. As one would expect from a negative this big, the quality was amazing, even at a low DPI. I also tried some color 35mm negatives that I had shot on cheap film as a kid. The color and exposure on them was pretty bad. However the scanner's color correction option did an admirable job fixing the former problem and the rest can be tuned in post processing. However after a couple more hours of use it became appearent that the scanner has several short-comings (although nothing to bad considering the price). First off the dust removal program quite frankley sucks. It failed to remove much on any of my slides or negatives, which range from month old perfectly clean shots to filthy, eighty plus year old photos. While this can be corrected in post processing it's a rather timely process, and I'd much rather let the scanner do it for me. A much bigger problem is this scanner does a poor job scanning anything under medium format. While a higher resolution scan will be adequate for internet postings and smaller prints I wouldn't use them for anything larger than an 8X10 and even that's pushing it. They also tend to not be as sharp as I'd like (not bad, just not great either). Overall its a good scanner and is a great value. It is very much worth it for medium and large format negatives and prints, however if most of what you will be scanning is 35mm I recomend you look at a dedicated film scanner (I will be purchasing one as soon as my wallet recovers). Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and wouldn't hesitate to recomend the scanner to a potential customer.

Found it was easy to setup and use. Software that came with it is good and easy to use. A good part of my photo business is doing restoration of old photos and the Epson V700 is doing a great job.

I thought this scanner would be an affordable solution for users who need to scan multiple film formats. Unfortunately, vertical banding was visible on every scan, 35mm and 120. Tried multiple settings, with/without film holders and different scanning software and they were always there. Contacted Epson support and they said it was dust near the sensor and would have to be sent to an authorized dealer for repair. I decided to return for an exchange. Second scanner came, exact same problem! Returned it for full refund. Search for this problem on the web. It's not an isolated incident and in my opinion Epson is selling a faulty product. [...]

I have scanned several thousand photos with my V700, and it is wonderful. For three years I had an Epson Expression 1680. I used it to scan over 15,000 family photos with great results. The V700 is less expensive, the same or better resolution, better color, and MUCH faster scans. Good job Epson!!

Produces very blurry scans at 4800dpi. I have to sharpen 100% radius 1.5, downsample to 50% of pixels, sharpen 50% radius 1.5, downsample again to 50%. Then the pixels start to look sharp.I have scanned 100s of slides. Ive tried every combination I can think of. The real resolution is about 1200dpi.[@]The physics problem is the glass bed. It scatters light making the image blurry. The scanner hardware may be capable of 4800dpi but if the glass interferes its useless. There is a reason no dedicated film scanners are flatbeds.I should have saved my money and got a dedicated film scanner.
Fine I.

This scanner is replacing my Nikon slide unit which now is defunct due to Vista upgrade. This is my first flat bed scanner that was free of internal dust and film scans are great.

Has performed excellently with film sizes from 35mm through 4 x 5, color positive, color and black & white negative. Also superb for scanning prints and documents. I have only two complaints: (1) The film holders are of inferior quality material, and (2) The user cannot replace the bulb—it must be done by an Epson technician.
