I now own a Nikon D7500 and put this lens on it. VERY pleased for doing my scenery photos and everything in between. I love it. The lens AND the D7500 were a big step up for me from my D3500 camera. I really enjoy this new platform!

This is a great lens to own if you looking for an all-in-one lens. The only problem I had was trying to find one! The 18-300mm came in very handy and eliminated changing lenses. Finally the Nikon store had a refurbished lens that worked great while on a 12 day trip to China. I took about 1500 shots in 4 cities and never came across any problems.

I owned this lens for a few years. It takes amazing photos. The only downside is that the lens is very heavy,, especially if you intend to carry this lens around, which is usually the point to a lens with such a large wide to zoom range. The newer version is much lighter and less expensive for nearly the same image quality. I ended up buying that and am very happy with it. If it was being used on location or in the studio all of the time, I would have kept it, though. It was such a nice lens!

I have now owned this lens for 2 years. I love it. It is the perfect everyday, always leave on your camera lens. I have a D7100. It cannot replace the capabilities of any F2.8 lens, but there also isn't a F2.8 lens with a full range of zoom. There isn't even a F4 lens with this much range. So this is the best you can get with such a full zoom range. Aside from shooting indoor sports or low light, it does it all. If you are considering the 18-200, I would say spend more and get the 18-300(F5.6) if you can. I have had the 18-140 & the 18-200. This one is the best, although I was pretty impressed by the 18-140 during the short time I owned it. I really like to take all my lenses with me, but it just isn't realistic most of the time. This lens makes it possible to have the zoom range you need to capture almost anything and still travel relatively compact. If you hike, ride a bike/motorcycle, or fly, then you will absolutely be happy with the versatility of this lens.

Great multipurpose lens for photographing my artwork, sports, wildlife and swamp scenes. Bought this lens for my D500. Very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend.

With this lens, no need to bring a lot of different lenses, it will take it all from wide to telephoto. Very Happy with the purchased.

I hate this lens. Yet every morning, it's the first lens I mount on my tripod. Speaking of which, it doesn't have a lens collar, so if you do try to mount it on a tripod, hold on tight. It's so awkwardly balanced it will tumble off your tripod if you're not careful. (Ask me how I know this.) It's slow. F6.3 at 300mm. And then there's that -- it's not a constant aperture. The zoom and focusing rings are backwards from my other Nikon lenses. It drives me nuts. The filter size (67mm) doesn't match any of the other filters so I have to use step-up rings (or buy new filters). The autofocus is s-l-o-w. I can't think of a thing it does really well. But here's the thing. It does do everything. It gets the job done. I bought it so I'd only have to take one lens on a trip to Italy with non-photographer friends (that don't seem to appreciate me carrying a backpack full of gear). And it did everything in an acceptable manner. The sunrise in Venice, David in Florence and even 300mm panning shots of the helicopter taking off in downtown Rome. If you can only afford one lens, you can't do better than this lens. If you can only carry one lens up a mountain, I'd recommend carrying this lens. It's not the fastest, sharpest or coolest. It just gets the job done.

After using my Nikon 70-200mm f2.8, heavy prime lens for 3 years, I needed a zoom lens with more range and less weight. This lens is perfect with my Nikon D7200 camera. Images are sharp, great bokeh on close-ups.

I purchased this lens as a result of my 18-200 getting dropped and damaged. I looked at many Nikon lenses to cover the spectrum and to support my traveling style. I reviewed Ken Rockwell's reviews including many others and this lens is a good compromise. As a result, I did not want to carry more than 2 lenses at a time. This lens is the original and does have slightly better darkness recognition than the 6.3 and though more expensive works for me. I like the lock on the side to keep the lens from extending which was inconvenient on the 18-200. I do not like to change out lenses in a windy environment nor to make many field changes unless necessary. It is a solid lens with good range and versatility with very good picture results over the 18-200. At the moment it is paired with the D7200. My only major con is the weight. However, I have let my 9 year daughter take pictures with it to introduce her to photography and she does quite well. This lens is a good lens to cover most situations, but when low light conditions are observed or other special conditions warrant a prime lens is best. The Nikon 35 1.8 is a good choice especially with the crop sensor.

This is a great lens when you only need one lens, especially outdoors or where there is sufficient light. While there are faster lens for the various focal points, it is a good one given the 18-300mm versatility. When traveling, this is one of the two I take, the other being a fast F2.8 40-70mm for night shots.

This lens replaced 3 lenses in my collection which I sold. Definitely my best walk-around lens I have ever owned. And it produces NICE images(pics). Really like this lens. Highly recommended.

Bought this lens a little over a year ago as a one size fits all remedy to my 18-55mm and my 55-200mm lenses. So much easier carrying just my camera with the lens attached rather than my whole camera bag with different lenses to swap when an opportunity came. Zoom ring and manual focus on lens come in handy. Wide angle comes in handy; great for large group shots and/or scenic pictures. Only downsides I would say are the picture quality at maximum zoom, the weight of the lens, and the lens shadow when shooting with a pop-up flash. Maximum zoom seems to be a bit less sharp and the weight of the lens will cause your camera to become top heavy so beware when shooting on a tripod or during long shoots. Overall very pleased with the performance of this lens!

Super recomendo.

I've been using this lens for several years and have gotten some stunning bird shots. The lens does have problems when the f stop is fully open, so I just push the ISO a tad and drop 1 stop.

Just what I was looking for, after years of carrying around at least two lenses! It is great for taking close-ups of my Granddaughters and the equivalent 450mm zoom capability is wonderful. More importantly, the camera never hesitated to capture multiple shots, even in the Continuous Shooting Mode. Whoever stated that this is the best Nikon all-purpose lens knew what he was talking about!

I have been taking photos for the past 16 years. I had finally got a nice DSLR for Christmas 3 years ago from my wife. From that day to the end of following year I bought 3 more lenses: 35mm 50mm and 55-200mm kit. I was given the 70-300mm from a fellow photographer. Have that many lenses to haul around was kind of a pain. So I consolidated my kit to the 18-300mm. This was the best idea in the world. The auto-focus on this lens is a lot faster then the 70-300mm and the crispness of the photos is noticeable in comparison, because to the glass quality in the lens.

I'm still assessing this lens. I purchased it as a one size fits all solution to replace my 18x55, 55x200 and 55x300 lens. There is one issue I have encountered and that is that the lens barrel throws a shadow when the pop-up flash on the D3200 is used. It's an issue with pop-up flash and any long lens but worth including in your pre-purchase considerations. Not such a big deal when you consider that we all need to upgrade from pop-up flash anyway :-)

Somewhat abashed about panning this lens after all the other sparkling reviews. However, I take a lot of medium to longer range wildlife shots. Wanting a versatile lens, and after reading all of the reviews, I opted on this one to compliment my D7200. For the most part, the outcome has been very acceptable. However, with a focal length at or above 200mm at infinity, the lens does not focus. Perhaps this is the lack of sharpness others have mentioned. After using for less than 3 months, I returned it to Nikon thinking it may have been defective. Unfortunately it was received back with no improvement, leaving me wondering if this is the nature of this particular lens or if by chance I purchased a lemon. In retrospect I believe shorter zoom lengths and/or fixed lenses are a less convenient, but a better option from an image quality standpoint. Attached images were taken with the VR "on" and auto-focused. Although compressed (equally) to fit in the allocated space, they do illustrate the issue. Manually focusing did not improve image quality. Focus areas were on the small bird in the foreground.

While I firmly believe a "real" photographer can take a good picture with any camera, including a box with a pinhole in it, I finally broke down and spent some money on a lens that cost more than the camera. The kit lenses, especially the 55-200 ones that come with the D5000 series of DSLRs, are downright frustrating to use. So I studied carefully, budgeted, and bought this lens. I am very happy I did. It's not quite as sharp as I'd hoped, but then again, this isn't a professional lens. It is, however, a very good prosumer lens and is a great match for a prosumer DSLR. I paid full price for it and I'm not sorry I did -- no buyer's remorse, which should tell you something right there. So yes, I heartily recommend this lens, especially if you find it on sale.

This is a great lens for general photography. I bought this for traveling but find it to be my "go to" lens for just about everything but specialty work like macro photography, etc. Images are sharp and it is especially good for traveling when space is such a premium. This lens is often the only one I take and meets 90% of my needs. The drawbacks are weight and speed. It's not a light lens but compensates by not having to carry other focal lengths with me, and speed of focusing is generally not an issue except for uses like professional wildlife photography. Were it not the speed factor I would rate this lens 5 stars.

I have shot the 18-200 on my D7000 for the last three years, and even though the reviews have been somewhat neutral due to the size and weight of the 18-300, I purchased one. This lens is a tremendous improvement over the 18-200, especially the resolution at the 300 end of the range. I'm very impressed with the image quality, extremely low distortion, and color rendition. I love having a single lens (replacing my 18-200 and 55-300) with this one. I still am keeping my 10-24 superwide zoom, but I think the new 18-300 will be on my D7000 90% of the time. Great work Nikon!

For the price, this lens is phenomenal. You would be hard pressed to find a better f3.5-5.6 DX lens than this beauty. Although a tad heavy, the weight helps with hand held shots from 150mm to 300mm as demonstrated with a shot of a crow in flight at approx. 200 yds. When cropped you can still see the detail in the feathers. It's obviously not a substitute for a good wide-angle for landscapes or close quarter indoor shots but it suffices in a pinch. At the end of the day a perfect match for my Nikon D7000.

During a recent two week trip to Italy's Tuscany and Umbria, I seldom removed this lens from my Nikon D7000 camera body. This lens is amazingly sharp and offers brilliant color and contrast. Below is a photo of the Florence skyline taken with a shutter speed of 1/200 of a second, an aperture of f/7.1, a focal length of 28mm, an ISO of 100, Auto White Balance, and Matrix Metering.

This is an excellent choice to clean up lenses clutter in your camera bag with all other for a non professional photographer. I am amazed with the sharpness of image. Currently using it with my D7000 and love it. Its little heavy but will get used to it after couple of days. Will recommend this product if looking for a all in one lens...

Estou encontrando alguma dificuldade de nitidez quando utilizo a tele no máximo, 300 mm. Comprei a lente há pouco e ainda tenho que fazer um comparativo com outras lentes 300 milímetros, espero estar enganado.

Instead of going on some Get Away 25th wedding anniversary trip, my amazing husband bought this lens for me. I LOVE IT. I'm able to do everything without switching out lens. I haven't missed a single shot opportunity. It's a keeper! My husband too!

I recently purchased the 18-300 to put on my D5200. I have been amazed. I really love pet portriat & pet action, nature and sunrise/sunset photography. This all-in-one has not let me down. I would switch lenses frequently, and worried about dust getting in the camera. Now, I never have to remove the lens from the camera and I'm always ready for any shot, whether it be a close-up of an flower or a wide angle sunset. It does have a little weight to it, so it won't spend much time just hanging o...

FINALLY ! A LENS THAT DOES IT ALL AND KEEPS TRUE NIKON QUALITY !
By The M.
Although I own several Nikon cameras and many Nikon lenses (including five 2.8 Pro models), I am by no means a professional. I started in photography fifty years ago and have formitable knowledge of both film and digital media. For me, as for many, super-zooms always meant a very substantial trade-off in image quality other than the particular "sweet-spot" of the lens. With this 18-300 mm VR zoom, Nikon has finally given us "more demanding" old camera guys a lens that takes us in DX lingo fro...

Nikon's most powerful all-in-one zoom lens ever
If you want a single lens that can cover every imaginable shooting situation, from wide-angle groups to ultra-high-power zoom shots, look no further than the new AF-S DX NIKKOR 18 300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR. Boasting the longest reach of any NIKKOR all-in-one zoom lens, it delivers the equivalent of 450mm enough reach to bring the most distant action up close. Nikon's second VR technology ensures every photo and HD video is razor-sharp, and Nikon's advancements in lens design deliver consistent, exceptional performance in any setting. It's also great for close-up shooting. Even more amazing, the AF-S NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR does all this in a surprisingly compact, lightweight lens.
