As someone else mentioned.  Spending this much you expect it to last a life time.  My rubber especially on the eyepiece adjustment areas have degraded in to a sticky mess and a horrible to use.  After spending over 30k on canon products this has been the worst.  Optically good but just horrible to handle

Disappointed with finish not lasting

I purchased this 15X50 binocular because i have Parkinson's. My shaking almost make using a standard binocular impossible to view thru. Now with the image stabilizing I enjoy spotting Big Game and General use.

The Cannon image stabalizing feature works great

I have owned this 15 x 50 IS All-Weather for a number of years.  It is fantastic for star-gazing, bird-watching, sightseeing, and a host of other uses.  It is on the heavy side but worth it in most situations.  I tend not to travel with it, however, if I am pressed for packing space or weight.  I have a more compact and much less expensive set of binoculars for that.

Fantastic Optical Instrument, a Little Heavy

Ice been using these 15x50's for about 5 years now. I've never owned a better optical platform. Super versatile... From spotting at the range to viewing the moons of jupiter and everything in between. Better than some Swarovski's.

You can't go wrong with these

Been using these for years, one of my 10 favorite purchases of all time. Stable enough to track objects when sailing and powerful/stable enough to resolve the rings on Saturn. Only complaint is it eats batteries when it's shut off so i either have to pull the batteries when not in use (which i always seem to forget) or bring extra sets. I do wish they were a little more compact/lighter for hiking/backpacking but you can't cheat physics.

I considered myself to have very steady hands until I used these binoculars. Night and day.
Optics are crystal clear, all the adjustments to your eyes that you may need, and the magnification is awesome.

Great binoculars

rubber coating will fail an become sticky and unmanageable leaving a coating of the material on your fingers.

WARNING _ DO NOT BUY!

I've had these for over ten years and though they're an earlier model, the only difference is you don't have to hold down the button to engage the mechanism on the newer models. Otherwise once I engage them, everything in the sky "slows down". They're very clear and enjoyable to use, though a little on the heavy side. The Canon 10 power is lighter, I prefer the 15 power. 
 I've always owned quality optics; IE. Questar telescope, Bausch and Lomb pocket vino's, and these canon's.

wonderful binos

The optics are very good.  Feels pretty good in the hand.  Stabilized nicely when looking toward the horizon but seems to me to get a little shakier the closer I point toward the zenith - not really unexpected.

I don't like that it does not come with caps for the objective lenses but it turns out that Canon 58mm camera lens caps fit just fine for me.

Overall a really good binocular.  Our 10x42 is probably a better balance of FOV, size, and weight for birdwatching but sometimes you just need a closer look!

Overall pretty happy with this binocular.

Have had for 3 months now.  Love them.  Very crisp image, stabilizer works great.  Viewing moon, birds, moving objects, excellent.   Canon - please include the endcaps for the big lens!

Great binocs, crisp image

I had my IS 15X50's for nearly a week, and I am happy with them! I am a visual hobby astronomer. All my astronomy gear is two eyed optics. While I have enjoyed my hand held binoculars, my hands have become unsteady over the years. Many of my friends in the astronomy community have showed and recommended the IS binoculars to me. I decided to give the 15X50 IS a try. I was dumbfounded! I really enjoyed it.  I took them to recent star party, and used them all night! After focusing and once the image is stable, the view is remarkable. Great flat field, and pinpoint stars. There is no distortion in the FOV, and the eye relief is phenomenal. These binoculars are simply the best!

Great Binos!

My eye distance is 2 mm less than the minimum adjustable eye distance. If it would be adjustable, the eye cups would interfere with my Nose, so they should be reduced in diameter by 3 - 4 mm.
This binocular is designed for a flat average Asian face.
But I am Caucasian.
This little adjustment from Canon should broaden the market.

Would love to get one

I bought these about 5 years ago and kept them in my house in Nh on Lake Winnipeasaukee. in the past year, they started showing moisture inside the glass.

Liked them, but moisture is now inside glass??????

My wife uses this set of binoculars during field trips out and about while I'm photographing wildlife. Good set of optics, especially when the IS is engaged. The additional power comes in handy when observation rather than photographs is needed. Keeps her busy...

Canon 15x50 IS binoculars

Best investment in optics I ever made. Sure, they are a bit bulky,but the clarity with the stabilizer make them my primary binoc.My 15x50mm pair is a constant companion in my vehicle. Never had binoculars that allowed me to "Look" into the woods.I have been using them for 10 years+ with no problems. They cost a chunk of change but the best investment for the money I have ever made. You can read a vehicle license plate from a quarter mile with these babies and no tripod necessary.Make a pair in 50x100mm and I'll think about being your first customer. Image stab should be standard on any binocs over 10x.

Great Investment

I am an amateur astronomer with 40 years of experience looking through various optics to see deep sky objects. My needs are quite specific to this task and might be more rigorous than many other uses. The image stabilization feature is the primary reason I bought them. It works wonderfully! I am able to use the binos without a tripod. Bravo to Canon for a job well done. After many many hours of use I do have some criticism of it. Lens caps should be supplied for all of the glass, not just the eyepieces. Also, there should be a means for the caps to hang from the product while in use. As is I'm forever stumbling in the dark looking for where I put them last. The indicator light for the IS is too bright and the wrong color. It should be red and very dim. As is, when my eye sees it, I lose some dark adaptation. Weight and battery life are acceptable. I found optical quality -for my astronomy application- to be lacking. Stars do not focus well to a pinpoint regardless of how long I leave them to come to thermal equilibrium. Inside and outside focus is asymmetrical. Perhaps the IS feature compromises image quality. I'm not entirely certain, but it appears to me that image quality is better with IS off. My bottom line is that these binos have made a huge contribution to the state of the art. They are fun to use within their limitations.

Good but not outstanding

The eye-cups should be redesigned to be more adjustable with perhaps side shields to block extraneous light.The lens quality is O.K., but should be better for this price range. Is there an aftermarket eye-cup for this product? I could not find one.

Poor eye-cup design

The image stabilization works beautifully and for viewing game at high power and long ranges it is essential. I really was amazed at the stabilization. I did not feel however that the optics quality and clarity was up to the price tag! If they put the system together with better optics I will be all over it. Two other minor complaints were the lack of lens covers and the weird eye cups.

Best Binos

Use my Canon binoculars for hunting and camping. These give excellent optical clarity, as you are able to see deer and turkey from a long distance against dark background. Works equally well during dusk and dawn, excellent light gathering clarity. Also use for star gazing during camping trips and stabilization eases the need for a tripod. Is the go to for most hunting trips where a blind and wait are essential.

Fantastic Optical Clarity

These binoculars are really nice.   It is amazing when you push the button and the IS system comes on.  Everything gets very steady and easy to look at.   Although they are expensive and a bit heavy, they are tremendous quality.  I like the fact that the IS system stays on and you don't have to hold down the button.

These are wonderful

Purchased in Apr 03....not one whit of trouble except eyecups....too stiff and eventually fatigued so cut them off level w/eyepiece...much better as I see better w/glasses on. Just enuf eye relief. Seldom use the IS (maybe for just 5-10 sec at a time) and find this to be the easiest hi-power bino to hold steady of any I've tried (to include the Swaro 15x and my Nikon 12x SE). I guess it's the shape, but with a thumbs-up grip, I can i.d. planes at 35k w/no trouble (not only which airline, but what kind and which model - A310 or A320, 737-700 or -800, etc). Optics near perfect but touchy focus and very stiff diopter and IPD adjustments (probably for water resistance). Use the IS very much you will use lotsa batteries....can't have everything, I guess. In short, they are definite keepers and the most versatile bino I have (I have 7 others). BUT....they're no good for warblers or the woods.

Nearly the all-around glass, except.....

In June or July 2005 I purchased a pair of Canon 15X50 "All Weather" Image Stabilized Binoculars.  I thought they would be great for birding and some astronomy.  Until recently I had enjoyed great service but a couple of weekends ago I had a bunch of friends come to our property for a camp out over Memorial day and we got caught in a rain storm.

I ended up with some water in the "All Weather" binoculars and sent them back for repair.  I got a notice from them saying that the repair cost would be $1568.48.  Man do I feel taken advantage of and will no longer being doing business with Canon in any shape of form.  They obliviously do not value their customers or stand behind their products. Anyone else had this problem?

All Weather? Canon 15X50 IS binoculars

I've owned these binoculars for less than a month.   So far I've used them for viewing birds and wildlife, and also plan to use them for stargazing.   I used them comfortably on a trip to several wildlife areas in Delaware where I viewed shorebirds, warblers, eagles, and foxes. They are heavy but did not seem as heavy as I'd expected them to feel based on other reviews I'd seen. I did install a professional quality neck strap with a thick pad, instead of the one supplied in the box. Since the objectives are threaded I also added some clear UV filters to protect the lenses while handling them (they don't come with covers for the objectives). The best feature is the image stability, especially for the 15X power.  When you turn on the stabilizer the image just "snaps" into place. I'm looking forward to looking at the night sky with them; only reason I haven't yet is that it's been raining steadily for nearly 3 weeks now.

Fun to use; not as bulky as I'd expected

Great for astronomical use.  My two telescopes are gathering dust in the attic thanks to these binoculars.  While they are easy to use, they are a bit bulky from most binoculars.  However, for what you receive from this product you can't really complain.  The ISB is fantastic.  Great all around product.

The Canon IS Binoculars are a real winner!  They have met my expectations for a versatile/flexible instrument that can be used as a pair of binoculars and/or a low-power spotting scope (w/o having to carry a tripod).  It has the optical quality to easily discern the details required in my visual resources survey work (in which a pair of wide field 8x Nikon Premier Lx binos are also carried) as well as the flexibility for birding and astronomical use.  Purchased the 15x over the 18x because of the wider FOV and the greater relative effect of the vari-angle prisms (presumably the same used in both binos) upon the stability of the lower-power image.  

The binoculars are somewhat heavy, but a good two-inch neoprene strap (OpTech "Super Classic") helps greatly when carrying them for lengthy periods of time.  Couldn't find a reasonable carrying case so the included Canon case was modified by sewing on a (detachable) carrying strap with a pad for comfort. Use lithium batteries if you're using the stabilization feature for extended periods of time though battery life hasn't been too bad with alkaline batteries.

Versatile and Sharp

These are probably the most usable binocular on the market.
Exellent optics .Hand holdable ,no tripod needed .
Its like having a spotting scope & binocular in one instrument.
