perfect for what I needed

I purhcased this last minute for a trip. I have outgrown my slim cybershot but not quite ready for the big leagues. Took it to my stepdaughters choir recital, was able to take video of her like I was sitting right in front of her!! photos have been amazing adn very easy to take. If you want high quality photos and don't know what you are doing...thsiis your camer! I chose this particular model mainly for the Zeiss lens, figured 16.2mp is really as good as 18mp.

Exceptional Camera

I learned to do photos and videos over the last 8 years, seriously doing shooting and editing for the last 3 years. I own and use 4 Sony camera/camcorders. (DSC-HX100, HDR-HC9, HDR-TG1 and MHS-CM5) This is the BEST from Sony. Right out of the box, or after learning to use the many features, the HX100 gives consistently superb photos and videos. I bought this one for the 30X optical zoom, the 60p field/frame rate and the excellent low-light image quality. I'm not disappointed with any of these features. I was blown away by the panoramic sweep-stitch together photo feature. As with all new cameras there are some adjustments in shooting and editing. Playing and editing AVCHD at 1920 X 1080 (28 Mbps) and 60p requires some changes for my computer, editing software and monitors. I shoot a lot of tripod, wildlife, outdoors at sunrise and sunset. This camera gives excellent results in all lighting conditions and at fast or slow pan rates. No more 'combing,' 'tearing,' or 'double sets of wings' on birds in flight. The only two additional things I would want from this camera? A remote input to trigger the shutter/video record operations. And, a user manual (it comes with one) that has an INDEX. At 300 pages the user manual is only searchable when viewed on a computer. You can print the manual out, but have to create your own index (page number for looking up a specific feature or operation). The attached photo (first from this camera) was taken right out of the box, no manual settings, just a hand-held, point-and-shoot (after sunset!). Great price from Adorama.

Great Camera

I love the zoom lens; very effective for wildlife photos. Took great pics of hummingbirds this summer and use shutter priority to stop the action - worked great. I own a Sony a580 and wanted a good compact superzoom as a grab-and-go camera. It is excellent for times I don't want to lug around the DSLR. I love Sony cameras. I have owned a a300, and HX1. Loved them both but wanted more MPs for enlarging photos and cropping.

I continue to only buy Sony Cyber-shot.

Great for family photos and photo cards to sell and send.

I had to have this camera.

I wanted a camera that was easy to use but took great pictures, I use it to take wildlife pictures around our house, the shutter is very fast and the zoom and lens focus are great. I wish it was a little smaller but I will get used to it-I was using a smaller camera before.

Good for event lighting

I bought this camera mostly for work (event lighting). The picture quality is really good with very low level light. It also did fairly well with the extreme color saturation from my lights, the recorded images were similar to what the eye would see. I have not yet tested this camera with LED sources. I have not learned how to change all of the settings to see what works the best, but the auto settings work well as is.

Review of DSC-Hx100V compare to Older's

This is a change made to DSC-H9 on which have few experiences on high speed shoots and need a change. So I look for a faster shooter and found on the same budget range than my previous buy this one. Considered to be great in speed compared to other digitals without being an SLR you will feel like. I don't have any longer to control the flash so you will have only automatic and no flash, which I consider a reverse, but their intelligent mode looks like works at least in my first shoots. Thank you.

Sony is all I expected

Most of my photos are of outdoor content. I have taken some panoramic photos but have not mastered it yet. Most all the photos come out crisp and with excelent resolution.

Great Camera for the money!

The camera is great, feels good, looks good and performs very good. Much better pictures than compact point and clicks but much more user friendly than DSLR's. We love the rechargeable battery and large, pivoting LCD screen.

DSLR Substitute?

Didn't want to carry around extra lenses, etc. This offered enough features (great zoom and close macro) that it suits my needs. Needed something better than "point&shoot" but not a DSLR. I use this for nature scenes, macro, auto-racing, airshows and regular candids. It's a great compromise between DSLR and convenience of "point&shoot."

This camera is a Ton of Fun!

This camera rocks. Period. Fantastic zoom, great image stabilization. There are so many useful intelligent auto features, plus all kinds of manual control for the knowledgable shutter bug. It's super easy to use and take great photos, and the 1080/60P video is better than my dedicated HD Camcorder. If you are looking for a step up from the typical point and shoot, but dont want a full fledged SLR, you will not be disappointed with this camera.

Renew your passion for photography with the Cyber-Shot DSC-HX100V/B digital camera. A Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonar T lens with 30x optical zoom brings distant subjects closer for video recording as well as for outdoor, sports and travel photos. The Hi-speed Linear Focus achieves dramatically clearer images while the "Exmor R" CMOS sensor delivers superior low-light performance. In addition to Full HD 1080/60p movie recording capabilities, this high zoom digital camera also features iSweep Panorama mode to capture high resolution panoramic shots.

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX100V Digital Camera, 16.2-Megapixel, Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonar T Lens, 30x Optical Zoom, Full HD 1080/60p Movies, Black Features

  • Carl Zeiss Vario-SonarT Lens with 27mm equivalent wide angle lens and 30x Optical Zoom: The Lens with 30x optical zoom lens brings distant subjects closer for video recording as well as for outdoor, sports and travel photos and Close Focus shoots close-ups within a 1/2" of the subject
  • Backlight Correction HDR: Don't miss a single detail in high contrast shots. The built in backlight correction analyzes the image and automatically adjusts accordingly to give you a perfectly lit shot
  • High resolution iSweep Panorama mode: With high resolution iSweep Panorama mode just press the shutter, pan the landscape and let the camera do the rest. It automatically links together each frame to produce a high resolution panoramic image providing the ability to zoom in on small details
  • Digital Zoom: Capturing the right shot at the right moment has never been so easy. Digital zoom brings the action up close to get that perfect shot, every time
  • Natural Flash: Conventional point-and-shoot camera flash shots just don't capture colors the way the eye sees them. Natural Flash mode takes a reference shot without flash and then uses that reference to correct the color, for far more lifelike images
  • Face Detection technology: Sony's Face Detection technology can automatically distinguish between children and adults. Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and adjusts flash, focus, exposure and white balance to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends
  • Sweep Multi Angle mode: In Sweep Multi Angle mode, the camera takes 15 images at different angles as it sweeps across the scene. By tilting the camera during playback, the camera's Gyro Sensor detects motion and displays the image in a 3D-like view on the camera's LCD
  • Includes Sony PMB (Picture Motion Browser) Software ver. 5.5: Sony Picture Motion Browser software offers a simple, intuitive way to transfer, sort and view your video and still images on your compatible PC
  • 3.0" XtraFine LCD: 3.0" XtraFine LCD with TruBlack technology gives you deeper blacks and more color in your display, all while being thinner than most LCDs
  • Hi-speed Linear Focus: Life moves fast, your camera's focus needs to move just as fast. The Hi-speed linear focus achieves dramatically clearer images with an auto focus that moves just as fast as your life
  • Background Defocus: DSLR photographs are often beautiful because they blur the background, putting the emphasis on the subject. Now point-and-shoot cameras can deliver this signature DSLR benefit
  • Optical SteadyShot image stabilization: Optical SteadyShot image stabilization uses a built-in gyro sensor to detect camera shake and automatically shifts the lens to help prevent blur without sacrificing image quality
  • HDMI output: The High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is a compact audio/video connector interface for transmitting uncompressed digital streams
  • Motion Detection: Motion Detection, along with Face Motion Detection adjusts ISO sensitivity and increases the shutter speed when movement is detected, reducing blur in moving subjects and faces
  • Includes Sony PMB Portable software: With the pre-installed Picture Motion Browser (PMB) Portable software the DSC-HX100V makes it easy to pre-select videos and images in the camera and conveniently upload them from the camera to a compatible PC and popular Internet sharing sites
  • Full HD 1080/60p: Record crystal clear movies at the highest resolution available with capabilities for 60p in 1080 Full HD. This provides stunning, fast motion video with less distortion for playback on your Blu-ray Disc players, Sony PlayStation3 systems and compatible PCs and HDTVs
  • 3D still images: Produce awe-inspiring images with 3D still image and 3D Sweep Panorama capabilities. Images will take on a new dimension of creative capabilities for viewing the world in a whole new way
  • Superior Auto mode: Get cleaner, more dynamic pictures and fewer missed shots
  • Soft Skin mode: Portrait subjects will love the results. Soft Skin mode recognizes skin tones and reduces the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles without affecting the rest of the shot
  • Smile Shutter technology: Smile Shutter technology captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply press the Smile Shutter button and the camera does the rest
  • Anti-blink Function: It's frustrating to capture the perfect shot, only to review it later and discover subjects blinked during the photo. When the camera is set to Soft Snap, the Anti-blink function captures two images, recording only the photo with less squinting or blinking
  • TransferJet technology: TransferJet technology, developed by Sony and advanced and promoted by a consortium of 18 other companies, allows you to transfer up to ten files between two TransferJet enabled devices just by touching their TransferJet logos together
