bought the dsc-h50 some three years ago. fine handy camera which provides good photo's. However since two weeks the lens is stucked and I cannot find an answer for this. I m now back to use the mobilephonecamera, which although not bad, does not match the quality of the Sony dsc-h50. if this problem wouldnot occur i had give the camera 5 stars.

I bought this camera in 2009 and ove it very much until yesterday. After several shots, the cameras objective was stuck. I was not able to take pictures and the lens cannot be retracted back to its chamber. I contacted Sony tech support and was suggested to reset by taking the battery out and/or re-initialize the main setting. Unfortunately, none of the methods worked. It appears that this is a hardware problem. The repair cost from Sony will be $190 and I don't know what to do. I wonder if the new model HX1 has the same problem or not.

I love this camera. I purchased it for myself Christmas before last (2008) with my Christmas bonus. I wanted something with great zoom and continous shot and this has both. It does have lots of features that even after almost 2 years that I have not used or figured out yet. Before this camera I had 2 different digital cameras of a different brand, but I have to say the Sony has them both beat! The only thing that I wish is that I could purchase separate lens' so that I could have even more zoom. Overall though, I absolutely LOVE my camera. I did have to get an additional battery though, nothing makes me more upset then to see a shot and pull out my camera and the battery be dead! Very fustrating! Hopefully now that I have a back up that will never happen again! Would highly recommend this camera to anyone!!

Overall, this camera is the one to get. Disguised as an SLR, it looks and acts like an SLR camera, without the clunky lens. (Though you can buy seperate lenses for the H50) For me, my favorite feature on the camera is the pull out screen. It's really helpful for getting those really low-to-the-ground macro shots, to see what you're taking a picture of, or at a concert, trying to the people up on stage. pulling the screen out and down to look at is real helpful for getting greater photos, compared to one where you wouldn't be able to see the screen. Also i love how you can edit some of the pictures right on your camera, so once you upload they're ready to go.

This is my 4th DSC-series Sony. Although it is the best of those 4 and is a good camera that takes beautiful pictures, it is not perfect. Admittedly, I have high standards and would love a camera in its price range to have the performance of a $2K Digital SLR, but without the size and weight. The 10-minute limit on video is maddening. The macro focus algorithm is inferior to the one on my previous Sony DSC. It uses a CCD sensor (not CMOS) and is grainy at any ASA over 200. Time exposures have excessive noise - anything over about 30 seconds really suffers. If you don't touch a control every few minutes, it will power-down - and then when you bring it back up you must reset the white balance and focus; this causes missed shots. Unlike my previous DSC, if you power it up with the lens cap on the lens will extend and rip the cap off (lacks a "lens cap" detector feature). The data connector is a delicate proprietary plug that can get damaged - Sony ought to have just used a standard mini-USB plug. It has a good ergonomic feel. I wish it had more buttons and less functions that must be selected via menus. Don't get me wrong - I like this camera and it takes good shots. But Sony's design team goofed in several key areas. Hopefully, they read these reviews and will do a better job on the next DSC!

This camera is the best thing I bought till date. Performance-wise, this camera can give you a feel like you own a SLR... I used both wide angle lens and telescopic lens to capture the wonderful memories and I was proud each time I captured a photograph. Optical zoom is very good and though I have to use a tripod when I use full zoom, the photograph was crystal clear. One time I had little trouble with the shutter making crazy noise but got it fixed in 2 days at Sony service center. Having an extended warranty is recommended. Will definitely recommend this product to my friends...

I purchased this camera at a Circuit City going out of business sale. Before reading the instructions, I took pictures of my family, birds, my dog, landscape, and auditorium chorus recitals without the flash. I am absolutely astonished with the overall great quality of the pictures. It is also "intuitively obvious". Although this camera has a great flash (took a picture at night of my landscaping 75' away), you don't need it with the ISO selection. I recommend this camera to any family that loves to taking great pictures of their family events without spending a lot of time learning how to use it. However, in diving into the manual, I found that this camera has a lot of capability to the photographer that doesn't want to spend a lot of money on a DSLR camera. Although I own two other digital cameras, I doubt I will use them. This is a great camera for all occasions.

I have used SLR's in the past but they are clumbsy and my hands require me to use a tripod to avoid shaky pictures. When I saw the bird pictures that friends were getting with this camera, I was amazed. I have taken pictures of warblers 30 feet away and was able to blow up the picture to almost life size. I now take pictures of birds I can't make out with my binoculars and identify them on the computer at home. No changing lenses on the beach getting sand into the inner workings. No 10 lbs. of equipment. Great performance in a great size. Smaller cameras are hard for older people to use this one is just right. After trying my camera 5 friends have purchased them.

I am in love!!! I purchased this Sony camera at Circuit City end of business sale last weekend and it was the very last camera they had. I am not a picky person with photos but wanted something really nice to take on an international trip. Love it from the very first shot I took by accident. So clear and bright. The zoom is excellent!! You will enjoy this camera.....am already raving over it!

I have had my Cyber-shot for almost a year now, and everyone who sees my photos wants to buy this camera. It is great for closeups on wildlife, fireworks, and night shots.Very sharp photos, and the color is great. I have had no problems at all. I love it!

I really like my camera. It takes great pictures and video. I bought the 16 gigabyte memory stick to go with it so I have plenty of storage space for both movies and still pictures. The camera operates great when taking movies and picks up all sound. I have no trouble transfering the video to DVD's. I use the best setting and get a great picture on my widescreen HDTV. After thousands upon thousands of photos, I am still very much in love with my camera. The photos hold up to those taken by my profession photog friends who much more expensive and much heavier cameras. The macro shots are lovely and intense. The camera hooks up to most televisions and you can take photos with the TV as your view screen. But the slide show on my 52" Sony Bravia is amazing. Add the music function and I am enthralled by each photo. I would buy another if this one were stolen.

I purchased this camera about 8 months ago as i was looking for something with extra zoom and great quality pictures!!! I was very satisfied with my purchase! The pictures are great and you can actually crop within the camera as well as do all the other normal functions. The only thing that I think it lacks is the green light for night shots but I love it nonetheless. The size is bulky and can get annoying when u r trying to get that fast shot and it takes u five minutes to get the camera out! Also I am trying to find out if they have an external piece that can make it an underwater camera but I haven’t found anything yet. Nevertheless the camera is really great if you are looking for that really extra close zoom (the zoomed in pictures are as clear as the far pics) and great quality prints!!!!
