Dear fellow phographer and technology admirers. I like to upload picture but I shoot with A7R4 or Alfa 1. Hence file size are big and could not upload. Low grade file size cannot justify a genuine review.I really liked this lens.Light, smaller, superb picture quality, sharp and great contrast. Corner to corner uniformity. I did not face purple glare and one sided vineatting as reported by many. I might be licky with my copy. Only thing I notice is barrel distortion of verticle length. Although its correctable. I would give 4.5* due to this reason. Finally what would I recon.BUY yes go for it. its worth it.

I wanted a wide angle lens for landscape photography, the attached images were taken on my first outing just to try it out, I'm amazed at how sharp the lens, the image of the cropped date from the original image hopefully shows this. The lens is well build, lightweight and great to handle on my A7r3.

This is a great lens, sharp corner to corner, light to carry, and with excellent build quality. Another excellent lens from Sony

The SEL1635GM2, FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II, is an absolute gem. Its fast aperture and superb performance make it a versatile tool for both photography and videography. The image quality is nothing short of stunning, with sharpness across the frame and excellent control over aberrations. The lightweight design is a bonus, making it a joy to use on longer shoots. The features packed into this lens are well worth the investment-it truly delivers on all fronts. My only wish is that it were a bit more affordable, but considering its quality and capabilities, it's still a fantastic value. Highly recommended for professionals and serious enthusiasts alike!

This is a big upgrade from the Mark I that I used extensively for years as my main Sony lens. The Mark II is considerably smaller and lighter, with much faster, silent focus and a significant improvement in close-focusing ability. One thing I haven't seen mentioned in reviews is the beautiful bokeh at F2.8, especially in closeup shots: it is worthy of a prime lens making it an even better all-in-one travel lens. It isn't noticeably sharper than the Mark I but that wasn't lacking in this respect so it just maintains that high standard.

I was hesitant in between 3 different lenses and ended up with this masterpiece. I can't have all the features from all the 3 lenses, but I'm happy with my choice. I wanted to have an astrophotography, a street art and one for landscapes and this lens wasn't cheap, but I have pretty much all I wanted and I only have to carry one lens with me.

Owned a 16-35mm f4 Zeiss for almost 10 years. Was my main travel lens and it was excellent. Came close to buying the Gen 1 GM 16-35mm lens but found it too big, heavy and front balanced on my A7r and then my A7R3 body. Glad that I waited for this Gen 2 version of this 16-35mm f2.8 GM lens. Incredibly compact and feels light weight. It is only a few grams heavier than the f4 Sony Zeiss 16-35mm which I find incredible. Optical quality for a zoom everything that I was hoping for on a GM lens. Sharp from corner to corner, even from f2.8. Great colour and contrast. Quick and silent and accurate focusing. Only 1 criticism is that is seems to suffer with quite marked lens flare when the sun is bright in the frame.

This is the best wide angle lens I have used to date. Super quick focus, pin sharp with great contrast and colours. A must for all landscapers

Unfortunately 2 copies of the lens had serious issues. First was soft on lower left at 35mm and 2nd was soft in both lower corners at 16mm so both returned. Good upgrades from the mk1 in terms of size and weight plus addition of aperture ring especially if you shoot video. In the end I decided to keep my mk1 lensed couldn't recommend due to bad quality control

I bought this lens as part of an overall camera and lens upgrade. I have struggled to find a user manual that enables me to understand quickly how to get the best out of the lens for different picture types. Nowhere on the Sony site does it give usage guidance.

I have used this lens a couple of times for a video now, and it is a joy to work with. The zoom ring, and the focus ring are silky smooth. It is also notably lightweight, which is a good thing for my gimbal.

The upgrade from the previous version that I used before in all aspects. It is light weight, high quality and can share lens filters (82mm) with the standard GM zoom lens. Bringing this lens to any travel or hiking is not as stressful as before thanks to its compact design.

I waited for the second gen of this lens and the wait was worth it. While it might not be a lens worth upgrading from the first generation if you had it, this lens is right in line with the benefits of many other second generation Sony lenses. Lighter, smaller, sharper (albeit minimal and doesn't matter in most cases). Paired with the A7cR it's a great pairing. Can punch it up with APS-c mode to 24-52mm or just crop in post. It is fairly nicely balanced and with the bigger grip size installed it's fairly easy to grip. The weight ends up balanced just behind the aperture ring on the lens. A bigger body that weighs more it'll be balanced nicely. Image quality is great. Go watch YouTube reviews if you want to get into the fine nuances of it but unless you're blowing an image up or doing really critical color accuracy work it'll do what you're looking to capture.

Silky smooth

I have used this lens a couple of times for a video now, and it is a joy to work with. The zoom ring, and the focus ring are silky smooth. It is also notably lightweight, which is a good thing for my gimbal.
The Sony FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II Full-frame Standard Zoom G Master Lens is 20% smaller and 20% lighter than its predecessor while displaying higher quality images. It offers 15 elements in 12 groups and four major optical improvements over the original version. With a minimum focusing distance of 8.6", macro photographers can get close while benefiting from its wide focal length. Videographers will also appreciate its minimal focus breathing and reduced chromatic aberration.
Even though it is the smallest and lightest full-frame F2.8 16-35 mm zoom in the world, the FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II delivers extraordinary image quality thanks to XA elements and Super ED glass (extra-low dispersion) in an advanced optical design. Lightweight high-thrust XD Linear Motors further contribute to a low overall weight of just 19.3 oz. (547 g) – about 20% lighter than FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM. Overall length is a just 4.5 in. (111.5 mm).
High spatial resolution results in detailed rendering of dynamic wide-angle scenes right out to the image edges throughout the 16-35 mm zoom range, even with the aperture wide open. Five aspherical elements include three XA (extreme aspherical) elements, and aberration is controlled for a superb blend of high resolution and gorgeous bokeh.
The FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II uses a floating focus mechanism that includes four original XD Linear Motors and precise lens control for up to approx. 2x2 faster AF speed. Continuous shooting at up to 30 fps is possible with Sony’s α1 camera. It reliably acquires focus and smoothly tracks subjects, easily achieving the critical focus required for slow motion and 4K/8K movies.
Smooth, beautiful bokeh that can add depth to this remarkable lens’s outstanding resolution is made possible by a large F2.8 maximum aperture, innovative optical design, and an advanced 11-blade aperture unit. Gorgeous circular bokeh can add extra appeal and expressive impact to a wide range of images.
The FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II offers improved dust and moisture resistance. All seams feature structural sealing, buttons and switches are fitted with silicone rubber gaskets, and a rubber ring seals the lens mount. These refinements work together to minimize the possibility of dust and moisture incursion in challenging outdoor environments.
