Delivers what it claims to deliver

I bought this tripod to use on a trip abroad next year and so haven't yet had a chance to test its portability over the long haul, but so far I am impressed by its features and value. It stays steady and balanced with my Nikon DS80 + 70-300mm zoom lens mounted on it, the pan head works very smoothly, and it can't take much more than 20 seconds to get all legs extended to full length. My only complaint: though the quick-release plate is a great feature, allowing you to take the camera off the tripod rapidly if a new shooting situation presents itself, it can be awkward to remount the plate, especially when it's attached to the camera. But overall, a very solid buy.

Lightweight limited duty tool

While I use this tripod for photography, that is limited to indoors for group flash shots where I need to be in the picture. Mainly I use this Bogen to support a 65 mm angled spotting scope, which weighs about 3.5 lbs. For that purpose it is adequate, particularly if you are 5'9" or shorter, and do not need to use its extension column. As I am six inches taller than that, I find this "Digi-Tripod" borderline adequate, albeit good for travel by air. Accordingly, in the near future likely I will supplement it with the Bogen Neotec, which has fast open-close legs, adding to that their #3130 mini fluid head. The latter is surely better than the simple head integral to this tripod, but like this "Digi-Tripod," it will take the square foot of a Swarovski scope directly, without need for a mounting plate. The newer outfit will be twice as heavy as the "Digi-Tripod," but I will probably worry less about anyone knocking the tripod plus the far more expensive spotting scope and and eyepiece over into the dirt. The view at 30X should be more stable as well. For most local birding trips where scopes are used, they are set up right next to a vehicle, so the extra weight is not a problem. For ANY 77 to 82 mm scope, I would go directly to the heavier tripod rig.

Just what I expected.

As a hobbyist I can't see how to make a tripod any better than this. It does the tripod thing.

Light weight yet steady

This tripod is light yet steady. You will see what I mean light if you ever carried a 5kg one climbing the mountains. It saves me a lot of back pain and energy. The only thing I dislike about it is that there is a small piece in the tripod base I need to remove everytime I use with my DSLR and put it back to use with my video cam. That can be improved in design. Remember not to lose that piece.

A great tripod

Just what i needed.

Ideally suited for compact, 35mm SLR's, or the new generation of lightweight camcorders, the 728B is a 4-section tripod that provides a stable platform for rock steady shots.

Lightweight and compact, the legs are constructed of sturdy multifaceted tubular aluminum that features new quick flip lever leg locks for fast set-up and breakdown. The shoulder of the tripod is made of cast aluminum to increase rigidity, and it incorporates a unique single hinge design which allows for a more compact leg section when folded.

The center column is also reversible for low-angle shots, and the integrated 3-way head is also made of cast aluminum and features a quick release plate. Pan and tilt movements are extremely smooth to allow for clean video pans and tilts, and a rucksack-style bag (MBAGD) is also included.
