The output is great. The focusing takes getting used to and can at times be trying.

For those that use AF for macro this lens will frustrate you. It takes a while to master but it is very sharp when you nail it. And of course MF is still the best way.

Very sharp with a learning curve on depth of field.

Great lens for the money. Super sharp. Can be slow to focus compared to Canon L lens but you can't beat it for the price.

I find this lens more useful for macrophotography than general photography as this prime lens is not as sharp as I was hoping for based on other reviews. I was surprised that my Canon 70-200mm f4L actually beats the Sigma 150 at 150mm for general photo work. On the other hand, this particular Canon is known to be one of the best zooms ever made and I have been blessed with a very good copy.

This is my first macro lens and I'm loving it! I was a bit worried about the quality of this lens, as I've never purchased a Sigma lens before, but I've been pleasantly surprised. It seems to be built very well, the focus ring is smooth. It delivers excellent image quality in a relatively long focal length (for a macro lens) at a very reasonable price. The auto focus is a bit unpredictable, but I prefer manually focusing when shooting macro anyway. Also the lens cap is a bit difficult to attach, especially when the hood is attached. Overall this lens offers very good value, delivering excellent image quality, and solid build, with only a couple of minor negatives.

Only one time have I even seen the old purple fringing, it handles it extremely well. It's sharp at f/2.8 through f/14. Macro images are awesome w/ 1.6x factor. Great portrait photos. I use it w/ Canon 30d and have the Eos 17-85 as walk around. When I need a shot to get accepted at microstock, I can count on this lens every time. Good bokeh, good color rendition. Front heavy. Even works pretty darn good as telephoto.

Using w/my Canon 350D. I also have Canon's EF-s 17-85mm IS USM and EF 70-300 IS USM but the Sigma yields better images than either of these and is on my camera almost all the time. Sharp as a tack.

This large aperture telephoto macro lens enables you to shoot up to 1:1 life size close-ups. Its large F2.8 aperture makes it an ideal lens for digital SLR as well as film SLR cameras. The new lens power layout provides the ultimate correction against lateral chromatic aberration to which digital cameras are prone.
Two Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass elements control various color aberrations and assure high image quality.
A floating focusing system moves two different lens groups in the optical system to different positions. This system compensates forastigmatic aberration and spherical aberration.
The HSM models provide ultra quiet high-speed autofocusing as well as full-time manual focus override
