I purchased this for my back-up camera but use it a lot on my main camera as well, even though I have a Nikon 18-200 for that camera. Sometimes it's nice to have the little extra reach. My only complaint is that the zoom ring turns the opposite way as my Nikon and other Sigma lenses. This is disconcerting when you are in a situation that requires fast action and you zoom in when you intended to zoom out. Otherwise, it's a great lens.

I submit photos to a stock photo site and thus lens just wasn’t sharp enough for professional standards, I have the 150-600 Sports and it us razor sharp do I felt safe to get thus one. But not so. Chromatic aberration, too.

Not being a professional or even avid photographer, I don't feel qualified to rate this lens. But, after a few trips to the field, I can say that this lens has allowed me to take some of my best DSLR photos yet. The optical stabilizer is quite impressive (i.e., it works!). I was ready to sell (or pitch) my Canon T3i, but the Sigma lens has caused me to rethink that plan.

This lens consumes power at the fastest rate I have ever experienced. I have a D500 and the Nikon lenes I have used with this camera consume much less power. Also the LCD does not go off after a photograph. I sent the lens to Sigma, but they found no problem. I would not buy this lens.

Nice, clear and sharp. Only two issues, first, at 250mm you get some vignetting with the lens cap on. Second, it seems to jump a little in the viewfinder when I try to focus. it's like the connection isn't stable and it did stop focusing altogether at one point until I removed the lens and put it back on again. I do wish it was weather sealed.

Nice and sharp. Focuses very fast. A little noisier than I expected, but not enough to frighten any creatures away. Easy to focus even through trees unlike my other 200mm lens. Quickly focuses on birds in flight, also unlike my other lens All these photos have been cropped some and no tripod was used.

A very ideal lens for beginners or hobbyists. I used this lens on my Canon 70D that I carry in my car at all times for just in case I need a photo, as a photojournalist instead of my pro cameras and lenses. My 70D camera did require AF microadjustment on both the W and T. The negative side is the construction qualities, the focus ring moves during AF, and eventually the zoom mechanics will break down jamming the lens ability to zoom. A plastic guide broke. The same happened on a Sigma 17-50 f/2.8—loose turret zoom screws. I have replaced this lens with a Tamron 16-300—costs a bit more but has much better weather protection. better construction properties, and a wider angle and more telephoto.

I love this lens. It takes beautiful photos. It is very practical when you are traveling light. The only issue I have is that there is a lot of lens creep.

Amazing quality lens for a Canon T5i. I think I bought it for less than 500 and it is worth 1000.Great lens, and great price.

I love the lens. I have two lenses that do the same distance but it's so much better to have one lense to do it all. I have it on my canon 60D and it works great. I think I even like this brand better than the Canon brand. Would def recommend.

I use the 18-250 for general photography ... Nature ... the range from closeup to portrait to scenes and on to telephoto works for me .. using a Pentax K5

Good quality lens, but the lock is on the opposite side from my last lens and it turns the opposite way to zoom, so it is taking some getting used to.

I had the Tamron 18-270 in the Nikon mount for about 5 days, and returned it. The zooming was slow, and the image in the viewfinder would jump slightly when the image stabilization activated. Although the jump didn't affect the photo, it was annoying, and a deal breaker for me. I now own the Sigma 18-250 and it auto focuses a lot faster, doesn't jump in the viewfinder, and is closer focusing. Image quality is about equal for these lenses, as many equipment tests have indicated. This type of lens cannot replace prime lenses for sharp images. But if you are looking to lighten your load, and accept the lens for what it can and cannot do, its a good, one lens option for traveling light, which is why I purchased this type of lens.

I wanted a walk-around lens for my Pentax K10D that would allow me to take photos of plants, but also give me some zoom range. This fits my needs. I checked to make sure it would work with my camera and it was supposed to. But when it came, it did not autofocus. A bit of web searching revealed I had to update the firmware on the camera. When I did that it worked, although so quietly that at first I wasn't sure. Much quite than the Pentax lenses I have. Not quite fully sharp at extreme close-up and extreme zoom, but a very nice performing lens.

This lens fit perfectly on my camera and gives me the ability to do close-ups and telephoto shots. I like the lock feature to keep the lens from drift focus in when shooting telephoto images. Plus the price was right. My previous lens was a mirror 500mm and was hard to see through because of the fixed f-stop especially at night.

As in the heading, I found the lens adequately sharp and with a very advantageous range of focal lengths. My only problem with the lens is that while it is manufactured to fit the Pentax K series cameras which have been weatherproofed, the lens has not been. This means that although I can use the camera in the rain without worrying (I live on the Oregon Coast), the same can not be said of the lens.

I knew there would be some compromises with this lens and I may have gotten a bad copy , but the image quality is terrible even in good light on a sunny day. I will be returning it for a refund. I get better images with my old kit lens.

I use this lens for all types of nature photography. I like the size and weight, also the lock. I do wish it was a bit faster, I find in low light at 250mm focusing can be difficult. Over all I am very pleased with this lens.

Haven't used the lens that much so far, but initial impressions are good: Pros: Quiet and quick auto focus Good image quality for landscape photography Good zoom range for a multi use everyday lens Cons: Heavy Stiff zoom ring/function

I really, really, really wanted to love this lens. I did a lot of research on my options in this pirce range and the fact it is built is Japan was a major selling point. THE GOOD: Well built with a sharp and clear visual through my DSLR. Operated smoothly and had a feel and look of quality. Quiet. THE BAD: I'm only guessing it was not a good match for my Nikon D7100. Auto-focusing seemed inconsistent and fickle at times on the auto mode. Exposures seemed unpredicatable in any auto mode. The color did not match the quality of my Nikon lenses. One big surprise was that my 200mm Nikon got me just as close to a subject as the 250mm Sigma. I really wanted to love it, but after 1000 test shots - I decided to stick with Nikon products and will simply have to save up more cash to do so.

This keeps my lens switching in the past. So far the images are clean, crisp and sharp. Sigma makes fine lenses.

I bought this lens to replace my kit 18-55 and 55-250 canon lenses. Pros: 1) Great range. No need to swap lenses on a casual photography outing. 2) Well built and looks like it can take a beating 3) Included lens hood is a bonus. Cons: 1) Fine focusing at longer zoom is not great. unless you are absolutely still forget taking any images at near maximum zoom without a tripod. 2) Lens is slow to focus especially in low light.

Nice walk around lens
By JONATHAN L.
This is a really nice surprise. Most people on forums seem to think that so called super zoom lenses are too much of a compormise to be any good. I am taking a long vacation and wanted a walk around solution. I received this lens and tried it out right away. The focus is almost as fast as the canon 17-55. When you are outside During the day or inside with a nice flash (like the 430 exII) the IQ is outstanding. As long as you understand the limitations of a lens like this you will be very happ...

Great Superzoom!
By Jimjungle
This lens is great wide open at 18mm, shots are sharp, the bokeh is more buttery than any one of my L lenses, save the 135 f2L, which can't be beat. Anyone that is complaining about blurry pictures simply does not know how to use the lens. 99% of the time, it comes down to the photographer, not the lens. When stopped down to 4.0 it's very sharp on the wide end, however I usually only use this lens for Macro shots, which is what it is intended for. At around 35mm-100mm you get some color fri...

Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC MACRO HSM, a compact, high zoom ratio lens, covering wide angle, telephoto and macro photography. By revolutionizing the optical and structural design of the Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC HSM, this new lens achieves a compact size and a minimum focusing distance of 35cm. New material, Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) maintains its structure and has little contractility especially in varying temperatures, is incorporated into the lens barrel. It is convenient when you wish to keep your equipment to a minimum and yet still be prepared for all opportunities and situations, such as travels.
A wide range of photography is possible in one lens
Covering wide angle 18mm to telephoto 250mm, this versatile lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras, is suitable for all-purpose photography including landscape, sport, and macro photography. It is convenient when you wish to keep your equipment to a minimum and yet still be prepared for all opportunities and situations, such as travels.
Excellent for macro photography
Close-up capability is improved with the minimum focusing distance of 35cm throughout the entire zoom range, and maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.9. In APS-C size equivalent, macro photography with approximately 1:2 magnification ratio is possible. In addition, with this lens, the size and framing of subjects can be adjusted by rotating a zoom ring, making macro photography easier than using fixed focal macro lens. For further convenience, the maximum magnification ratio at each focusing distance appears on the side of the lens barrel.
Revolutionizing the design foundation results in compact size
Optimization of the power arrangement by such as incorporating double-sided aspherical lenses, and reexamination of design, the filter diameter size is reduced. This compact size lens has the approximately 13x high zoom ratio with the filter size of diameter 62mm, and dimensions of diameter 73.5mm x Length 88.6mm. It ensures portability and overall ease of use, making it perfect for travel and leisure photography.
TSC (Thermally Stable Composite)
The new material "TSC (Thermally Stable Composite)", which has little contractility especially in temperature changes, as well as maintaining firmness, is incorporated into the lens barrel. Compared to Polycarbonate which is generally used, TSC has higher elasticity by approximately 25%. Since thermal shrinkage is low, it has high affinity to metal parts which contributes to high quality product manufacturing. It also contributes to the parts such as the zoom ring and scaling to be slimmer.
Brass made bayonet mount
This lens incorporates brass made bayonet mount which has both high accuracy and solidity, same as the mount for camera body. The special treatment to reinforce the strength is applied on the surface to make it a high quality lens that is resistant for long-term use.
Optical Stabilizer (OS)
Sigma's own unique Optical Stabilizer (OS) function is incorporated. It offers effective correction of approximately 4 stops, which makes it possible to compensate camera shake even in macro range photography where a small blur can be easily identified. When photographing a moving subject such as motor sport, it automatically detects camera move, and offers effective correction for camera shake. The OS effectiveness will gradually decrease as the shooting distance becomes shorter.
Superior optical performance
SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element offers excellent correction of color aberration. Three aspherical lenses including double-sided aspherical lens together with the latest design, prevent and correct all types of aberrations including astigmatism, achieving high quality images throughout the entire zoom range
Flare and ghosting conscious design blades
From an early stage, flare and ghosting are thoroughly measured to establish the design which is resistant to strong incident light such as backlight. Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting, and provides sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions. Supplied petal-type hood can be attached to block out extraneous light which has a harmful influence on rendering of the lens, and prevent internal reflections to occur.
