Compact camera for Traveling

I bought this camera 4 years ago and have been very happy with it. We took it to all around the world, even use it underwater during scuba diving (inside Fantasea housing)! The quality of pictures and video is great. Could not be any happier with the purchase.

Excellent for carrying around.

This is a great camera to have where ever you go...it is so light and small and provides excellent quality. I will certainly be taking it instead of my heavy Canon 5D Mark III on my upcoming travels.

Sony RX100 V Review

I got this Sony as a pocketable travel camera alternative to my Nikon D750 and so far am extremely pleased. Although I have only explored certain features so far, I have found it to be an excellent, easy to use lightweight option that takes reliably excellent photos. If your budget allows, get it and enjoy!

Great all around camera

Was considering the VI, but went with the V for better low light performance and the ability to use the Play Memories apps, that went away on the VI and am very happy. Time lapse and star trail apps are awesome with this camera. Video quality is fantastic!

RX100 Expensive and problematic

I bought this a few months ago. Great camera. Lately it turns on and off by itdelf constantly sometimes when its just lying on a table untouched. You cant put it in your pocket or a case or it starts turning on and off by itself. I bought it for a manth I'll be spending in France . This was to be my main camera and now it's useless. so it's back to my samsung camera phone. It takes amazing pictures but lasted 2 months before i had major problems with it. This is a point and shoot is amongst the most expensiveon the market. It's super disappointing to spend that kind of money and be stranded without a camera while traveling for a month.

Wow

Got it as a gift as requested gor long time to my spouse. Great as ever gift that keeps on giving for long time in the future. I’ll study it as it is overwhelming to learn, trial and error would be great execution in beginning.

RX100 V is nice improvement over original

Have not had this in the water (diving) yet, but shoots xcellent pics on surface - was looking for improvement in cycling speed between shots - so far looks like a lot better than the RX100 (original). Have camera in an Acquapazza housing and it works well in this container. Will be taking camera/housing to Florida in 2 weeks and spending some time diving with it.

Too many cons

I had read the glowing reviews for this Sony DSC-RX100 V and since I was looking for a small, good camera for travel, I thought I would try it. Unfortunately, the cons outweighed the pros for me. One, it is extremely small and heavy for its size making it awkward to handle. Two, the pictures taken with it were pretty good, but no better than those taken in similar conditions with my iPhone. Many times the iPhone did a better job, for example with sunsets. Three, the zoom is very slow--slow to zoom out, and then to zoom back in. Reading to the SD card was surprisingly slow also. Four, it was impossible to see anything in the monitor in daylight or sunny conditions. I tried using the viewfinder and that also was difficult to use. My decision to return the camera was based on the cost also. I expected more from a camera that cost $900+. I don't usually write reviews, but since there were very few reviews mentioning these shortcomings, I made an exception for this camera. The iPhone cameras are becoming so good that these small cameras have to be extra special, and this one just isn't. IMO, you'd be better off buying an inexpensive Canon P&S instead.

Top of the Line Camera

Sony is the best - I had a RX100M4 and decided to upgrade to RX100V. Not disappointed. What a high speed versatile camera.

Small enough to fit in pocket sort of.

I was looking for a simple point and shoot camera with great resolution, with as many extras as possible, I get what I asked for in the little fully loaded, technicly enhanced camera. The Bluetooth capability will be great when i'm traveling.

Both Focus and Exposure Are Fast and Accurate:

I got it for a trip to Europe on a tour. I had to shoot fast as I was always with family and a larger group while we listening to a guide. The pop-up viewfinder is really wonderful to use. The photos were in focus with accurate exposure. It worked well both outside and inside. Inside included art museums, churches and castles and bakeries. Because of the high contrast conditions inside (dark objects and bright windows), I set the Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) to +5, which worked well. Upon downloading the files into my computer, I had many nice choices. The files were easy to enhance with photo software. Last, this camera functions delightfully well as a point and shoot. However, I recommend the book by Alexander S. White so that you can get even more out of your camera as it has advanced and professional features. Happy Photographing!!

Great starter camera!

I bought this camera a month ago for a birthday present to myself. I have really only had experience with camera phones so I am excited to learn on this camera. Right away I am impressed by the quality of the images and the ease of finding information on settings to get the most out of this product. I am excited to learn more about this camera .

Sony RX100 V Small but good

I wanted a camera to carry around "in my pocket" when I my DSLR would have been problematic to carry. What drew me to this camera was the pop-up view finder, pop-up flash, focal length of lens, low f-stop, resolution, tilt screen, and numerous other features. The down side is holding on to the camera. While it's size, features, and functionality are just what I wanted, the camera is a bit difficult to hold on to. If Sony had taken a page from Rollei 35 SE "textured" body, this would not have been a problem. If you have large(er) hands, you may have difficulty using this camera. Granted, a "grip" can be purchased and attached to the left side of the camera (looking at it from the front) that will help. Or, a case can be purchased that will also help with gripping the camera. Having said that, the camera takes very good photos and is inconspicuous, which is what I was after. I just wish it was easier to hold on to. If it were easier to hold on to, I would have given it a four or five star rating.

Great for the money and for its intended purpose

First, let me say that you have to keep your expectations realistic. I bought this to have a camera I can carry in a pocket 24/7. My "pro" camera is a Sony a7R III so some of my comparisons are unfairly comparing this ($) camera/lens point-and-shoot, to a ($) pro camera body, but I make this comparison for those like me that want something that can go in a shirt pocket, so you aren't trying to capture that sudden photo op with a phone. As much as I can with fewer buttons, I have my RX100 M5 set up JUST like my a7R III. I can get great shots with this in good light, but in low light there's just no way a little camera like this can keep up with an a7R III. If you expect that it CAN, then you will be disappointed. The AF is pretty good, but could be better and hopefully will be in the next version. Also, I'm hoping that the addition of touchscreen focusing on the a7R III and a6500 will trickle down to the RX100 M6. In low light situations, I carry a Flashpoint Li On flash and put in in Manual and S2 mode. I dial down the Flash Compensation on the RX100 M5 to -3 stops, so it doesn't effect the shot much and that optically triggers the Flashpoint flash. Unfortunately, that means that you get no help from TTL, but it's a big improvement over the popup flash. Knowledge of using a flash meter is a big help. That setup in an event situation is tough as moving subjects makes shooting a flash in manual a much bigger challenge. A hotshoe would be a great addition to this camera, but it's probably just not big enough to have one, and that would add cost which is contrary to a low price point. BTW, I suggest at least TWO extra batteries. The camera is small, the batteries are small and you're using an electronic viewfinder, so you HAVE to expect battery life will be poor. Not a problem. Third party batteries are cheap, so stock up and make sure you keep them charged and with you. I bought two extra batteries and a wall charger for less than $15. Again, keep your expectations realistic. Bottom line is I LOVE this little camera for what it is, but it's NOT a pro camera. Small, compact, great IQ at lower ISO's, cool selfie flip-up screen great for vlogging, great video, easy to use, familiar for us Sony users, a relatively low-cost alternative to carrying a pro body and lenses. I primarily bought this so I could have a small camera rig that cost about $1,100 including the flash vs the risk of carrying about $5,600 worth camera gear. I'd like to see what they bring out in the next version, but for the most part, I'm VERY happy with this camera. Touch screen focusing, better Eye AF and the ability to tigger off-camera flash and this would be FIVE stars.

Quality camera along with mobility. I highly recommend to the casual + photographer.

I am a casual photographer previously shooting with a digital Canon SLR. The Sony xr100 v allows me to shoot better quality pictures along with mobility. The camera fits into my cargo short pants and therefore is with me at all Times during a vacation.

GREAT Camera

RX 100 V is a great camera. The HFR (high frame rate) is extremely useful. This feature is not even available on my Sony 7R2. Having had the RX 100 M3 the learning curve was very minimum. The LCD display is great. The camera takes great photographs comparable to the Sony 7R2 with GM hi end lenses. The RX 100 V is a class on its own. I would highly recommend this camera for anyone. While professionals tend to use this camera I suggest for daily use for the average person who wants great photographs this is the best.

Great Camera, battery could be better

Excellent point and shoot with a zoom. The menu is a little dep but once mastered you get the shots you wanted to get without the big dslr. Get two extra batteries and a charger and call it a day.

Great vlogger camera

There are many good things about it, surreal shutter speed, fantastic 4k recording. But I think the price can be a bit lower given the general performance of this model.

Great for Vloggers

I had a Canon G7X, unfortunately its lens set was broken. Then I decided to give it a try of Sony RX100m5. The quality of photos doesn't seem to be so impressive. However, if you're a vlogger, you will love the excellent 4k video recording. This bundle is a very good deal. The manufacturer box of the camera was strangely unsealed (not sure if it's normal).

Love it

My only problem is the lack of long range capability; hope a lens can be added in the future. Realize this might offset the benefits of it fitting in your pocket

Both Focus and Exposure Are Fast and Accurate:

By Robert45

I got it for a trip to Europe on a tour. I had to shoot fast as I was always with family and a larger group while we listening to a guide. The pop-up viewfinder is really wonderful to use. The photos were in focus with accurate exposure. It worked well both outside and inside. Inside included art museums, churches and castles and bakeries. Because of the high contrast conditions inside (dark objects and bright windows), I set the Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) to +5, which worked well. Upon do...

Sony rx100v-the miracle camera

By PAUL L.

I am an experienced hobbyist who has used film and digital equipment for the last forty years. I have always used SLRs with multiple lenses, you know how much stuff I had to lug around. I wanted something less bulky to carry around. I tried many compact cameras but was never satisfied with the quality results so I continued to lug around the SRL and lenses. Then I investigated the Sony RX100V and was blown away. The "auto" features are so good that I m embarrassed to say that I use the "...

Outstanding image quality

You needn’t compromise image quality for shooting speed. The RX100 V can capture high-resolution images of over 20 MP as quickly as 24 fps, thanks to enhanced image processing capacity and response.

Outstanding image quality

Focus sharpens with Fast Hybrid AF

Fast Hybrid AF with wide autofocus coverage supports focusing and tracking accuracy that is outstanding enough to surpass the rigorous standards required for 4K movie shooting.

Going beyond basic 4K requirements

4K movie recording featuring full pixel readout without pixel binning condenses about 1.7 times as much data as is required for 4K movies so 4K movie output looks unbeatably brilliant.

Going beyond basic 4K requirements
Double recording duration to capture more action

Extended super slow motion at up to 960 fps

The RX100 V can record movies in super slow motion at up to 960 fps (40x normal frame rate) for twice as long as its predecessor, so you can capture more of the details that express action most memorably.

The RX100 V inherits the brilliant retractable OLED electronic viewfinder with anti-reflective ZEISS® T* Coating, multi-function control ring/custom buttons and 180-degree tiltable LCD screen that distinguish its predecessor.
