Excellent lens, coupled with the resolving power of the A1 Mk2. This is a walk around all day lens very light unlike the 400mm or 600mm primes I find autofocus and lock on speed exceptionally good and in my case used without the 1.4x or 2x TC although I've seen good results I'll probably get the 1.4x

Took my lens for a University sports day and it nails it every time. Pairing it with the a9iii? it is insane. And for animals it's feather counting sharp.

I use this lens mainly with the 2X converter. It's light and great to use in the field, and whether used on it's own, or with either the 1.4X or the 2X converter the results are brilliant.

Sharpness is superior on this lens. Fast focusing and combined with the 1.4 teleconverter its perfect for a wide variety of photographic needs. I already own the 100-400 gm as well. Now i have a converter for that lense as well. Im loving it. Well worth the money.

This thing is a beast and I use it for sports, Soccer, Football, LaCrosse and from the outfield for softball. You need to be in a place, when action comes st you, many times it gets too close but when you are properly distant, it's a wicked lens. I use it for individual portraits as well, but you need to be back of course.

This is the best lens i have bought to date,so user friendly.light weight and a fantastic piece of engineering,It does work excellently well with both teleconverters especially the x2,i'm using it hand held with this converter for birds in flight and i'm getting instant lock on and tracking,The lens is so fast it's unreal, and the picture quality is sharp corner to corner,,at 2.8 the images are very sharp with excellent seperation and a lovely bokeh,,,well done Sony this will take some beating.

It's as good as everyone says! So compact and light and when used with either the 1.4x of 2.0x extenders the results are remarkable!

Bought this for my nature and wildlife photography.Absolute superb images from a world class lens. When paired with the 2x teleconverter gives that extra reach without loss of quality.Weight and balance also invaluable for use in the field without the need for a monopod. One word Stunning!

I bought this new about a month ago and all I can say is wow!! Sharp, sharp?.SHARP! There is absolutely no drop off when using either the 1.4 or 2.0 teleconverters. Glad I have this in my arsenal now.

They really got everything right on this one. A weight and balance you can carry all day, stellar sharpness, and terrific AF response and sharpness even with teleconverters. This is the whole package for someone who wants outstanding quality in a wildlife package that doesn't require a tripod or body building. An absolute joy. I started bird photography 20 years ago with a 300/F4 plus 1.4x converter (420mm/5.6) as my favorite on a crop sensor. It was sharp and I didn't hesitate to carry it on long hikes. After decades of 10 pound primes and 5 pound zooms, which kept me from straying to far from the truck, I'm back to a 300, but now at F/2.8, which with a 2X converter opens a high quality 600mm/5.6 option that performs better for me than the 200-600 ever did at half the weight. Slightly better and a stop faster at 420mm/F4, (1.4x) than the FE 100-400 GM at 400 and better and slightly faster than 200-600 at 600 (2x). And then there is 300mm/2.8 for shots under a dark forest canopy without the12,800 ISO I found too often using the zooms at wildlife shutter speeds. With the cropping room on the A1 and A7R5, the fast, razor-sharp 300mm is still extremely useful for wildlife. The only issue is price, which is more than the two long zooms combined, but selling one or both will ease the pain.

I always use my Nikon Afs 328 to take portrait and sports. But I need to put it on the monopod due to the heavy weight. Now I can handheld the Sony 328 with minimum effort. This light weight is unbelievable in before. Hope that Sony can introduce more fantastic lens that are same technology breakthrough.

This lens is as light as a feather. Using it all day handheld is a dream and the use with which I can assign a button to ASP-C and get that extra reach, it just makes the experience all the more complete.

I purchased the Sony 300mm F2.8 from B&H about a month ago. This is a super tack sharp lens, practically instant focus speeds and the Bokeh is amazing. The photo's that come from this lens is better than all the other Sony lens I use including the Sony 135mm, Sony 50mm F1.2, Sony 24mm, 35mm, 100-400mm etc. It is a dream to own one of these and I am so glad I purchased it.

Super fast focus. Incredibly light weight. Sharpest 300mm f2.8 I have ever owned. The lens cover bulky and is a challenge to work with. I ultimately had to seek out a 3rd part lens cap. Still no Arca Swiss type grooves on these Sony tripod feet. The only attachment point for a strap is on the tripod foot. The foot is removable, but I can't see any situation you would take it off, due to it being the only attachment point for a strap. If Sony comes up with a better lens cover and adds the Arca groves to the foot, it gets 5 stars.

I have owned this lens for about a month, and I use it primarily for bird photography with and without converters, it is very light and easily hand holdable and it produces superb images coupled with the A1.

Super quick, super lightweight and super sharp, the perfect combination making for an outstanding lens. Unfortunately it's super expensive too but this kind of quality doesn't come cheap and rightly so.

This is my first high end prime lens and I wasn't sure what to expect. This is much lighter and smaller than the 400mm I had tried at a demo day. I did a whole 90 Minute football match hand holding and had no issues with the weight at all. The image quality is excellent- very sharp when paired with a Sony a1 despite the less than ideal weather conditions on my first trip out. Has a function ring which can be assigned to the crop option which I found very handy. Usual GM lens buttons and options otherwise. I hadn't realised that large primes don't come with a lens cap, but a lens hood- I think given this lens is so small a lens cap might have actually been a good idea. I can't fault the lens and look forward to creating many happy memories with it.

This lens is as light as a feather. Using it all day handheld is a dream and the use with which I can assign a button to ASP-C and get that extra reach, it just makes the experience all the more complete.
The Sony FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens is the lightest large-aperture lens in its class at just 51.9 oz. Its optical design, featuring Super ED and ED glass elements, eliminates chromatic aberrations and maintains exceptional resolution across the frame. The lens also has four customizable focus hold buttons and a Function Ring. The 11-blade circular aperture creates stunning bokeh and its precise autofocus ensures you can keep up with subjects that rapidly change distance and direction.
An innovative optical design that includes three Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements and one ED glass element effectively subdues axial and lateral chromatic aberration. Outstanding resolution and contrast are maintained right out to the image edges, which also allows for more flexible cropping and editing.
The gorgeous and creamy bokeh allows the use of narrow depth of field to make subjects stand out from the background. In addition to Super ED (extra-low dispersion) and ED elements in a new optical design, each lens is individually calibrated during manufacture to optimize bokeh quality. An 11-blade circular aperture mechanism contributes to smooth, rounded bokeh.
The lens maximizes the speed potential of high-performance cameras, making it easy to capture important moments in dynamic sports action or fast-moving wildlife scenes. Two high thrust XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors and an advanced control algorithm have been specially fine-tuned for fast response. Additionally, AF tracking speed and precision are maintained even when shooting continuous bursts.
An optical design that includes Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements reduces the subjective weight by using fewer elements near the front of the lens, so that the weight is not concentrated at the front. This optimizes balance and reduces moment of inertia, allowing precise, agile lens movement and panning while shooting.
Built-in optical image stabilization makes it easier to shoot sharp images handheld at telephoto focal lengths. MODE 2 offers ideal stabilization for panned shots, while MODE 3 provides enhanced stabilization for dynamic, unpredictable sports action.
A programmable function ring directly controls power focus or Full-frame/APS-C selection. Power Focus (default) initiates constant speed focusing in the selected rotation direction. Or select Full-frame/APS-C for instant selection of frame size by rotating the ring.
Fast, precise AF performance is available even when the SEL300F28GM is used with the optional SEL14TC (1.4x) or SEL20TC (2.0x) teleconverter.
The SEL300F28GM can use standard 40.5 mm diameter drop-in ND and other filters as well as Sony’s own VF-DCPL1 circular polarizer.
A dust and moisture resistant design provides extra reliability. The use of a durable magnesium alloy for internal components and other refinements maximizes durability while reducing weight.
