So far so good

The camera seems to work as advertised and pretty much as noted by other reviewers. The viewfinder is a plus in bright conditions or if you need to put on your glasses to see the LCD. The backlight correction (HDR) feature significantly improves picture quality when shooting with hazy skies and in high contrast situations. The lack of a printed manual is an irritant (but not surprising) and the online / in-camera manual is not well written. Overall it seems like an excellent camera for someone who wants better pictures and more control than is available with most point and shoot cameras but doesn't want the added cost and size of a DSLR.

AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING!

I purchased this camera for the sole reason of taking night-time pictures. It has a low ISO of 100 and a shutter / aperature rating of 30". I was amazed by the quality of photos this bad boy takes. It has a POWERFUL zoom (up to 60x!) and the photos you can take is just amazing.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V

It is a few steps up for me from Fujifilm Finepix s2950. It has better image quality, good zoom and good in low light congition. But it does take a little long to process low light shots and wish it has a bigger sensor for more detail shots.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V

A few steps up from my Fujifilm finepix s2950 in a bit more cast. Pretty good image quality, Nice zoom, so much better in low light condition and easy to use. But the panorama shot doesn't work as well as expected and take a little time for processing low light shots. Overall, it is a pretty good camera.

1st high MP camera

This is my first high pixel count camera and am so far very pleased, especially at this price point. I think it's a good value(and I'm not necessarily a SONY fan). It's better than a pocket point and shoot(and larger of course), but not nearly as complicated as a DSLR. It probably has more features than I will use, but I haven't explored them all either.

Tremendous camera at a superb price

I first saw this camera's results on my niece's FB page, I was impressed at the color and sharpness of the landscapes and family photos. I then saw that my sister decided to get one and loved it. They were followed by another family member. For the fact that it had the movie option, and my old Sony did not, I decided to upgrade. Also the zoom and macro are amazing, without the need for lens changes. I've been a film enthusiast and have enjoyed my older Sony, but this camera is a nice step up.

1st high MP camera

By Alan

This is my first high pixel count camera and am so far very pleased, especially at this price point. I think it's a good value(and I'm not necessarily a SONY fan). It's better than a pocket point and shoot(and larger of course), but not nearly as complicated as a DSLR. It probably has more features than I will use, but I haven't explored them all either.

The Sony DSC-Hx200V Digital Camera (black) puts 18.2MP, 1080/60p video capture and the grip and styling of a DSLR in the palm of your hand. Designed for the more active shooter with a need for a better grip than that of a traditional point-and-shoot, the Hx200V goes the distance. It works hard to provide you with great looking images and the extensive functionality to achieve them.

The 18.2MP images just don't happen. An entire system has to come together to make it possible. The Hx200V provides you with the tools needed, including Active 3-Way Optical Image Stabilization, a 3.0" xtra Fine LCD TruBlack display and a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 30x optical zoom lens. The lens also utilizes a 60x Clear Image Zoom.

A number of auto modes come into play when shooting the Hx200V as well. From GPS and Compass functionality for geo-tagging to iSCN for automatically adjusted camera settings, Sony gave the Hx200V a host of features that take the guesswork out of shooting. Other highlights include 10 fps burst shooting, Background Defocus and Anti-blink. And of course, no matter what you're shooting, the camera accepts Sony's Memory Stick Duo media as well as SD/SDHC and SDXC memory cards.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V Digital Camera, 18.2MP, 1/2.3" Exmor R CMOS Sensor, Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar Lens, 30x Optical Zoom, 3.0" LCD, USB, Black Features

  • 18.2 MP Back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS Image Sensor: This sensor captures ultra-HD images that take full advantage of the camera's sharp Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens. The sensor enables advanced processing that reduces noise levels resulting in stunning low light images with incredible details
  • High speed AF: To improve focusing speed and sensitivity, the Exmor R CMOS sensor uses its rapid throughput to deliver high-quality image signals to the camera's BIONZ processor. The result is fast, DSLR-like focusing speeds, even in low light
  • Optical zoom plus Clear image zoom: Most digital zooms use electronic cropping to get closer to the subject, resulting in unsharp images. With Clear Image Zoom the powerful processor compares patterns found in adjacent pixels and creates new pixels to match selected patterns
  • Full HD 1080/60p: Record crystal clear movies at the highest resolution available with capabilities for 60p in 1080. This provides stunning, fast motion video with less distortion for playback on your HD TV. With dual record of stills and movies, you can shoot both at the same time
  • Optical SteadyShot image stabilization with 3-way Active Mode: This reduces shake and blur by countering camera movements in both horizontal and vertical directions. Active 3-Way stabilization adds digital rolling control that counters clockwise and anti-clockwise rotation
  • GPS and Compass: GPS and compass record location data and camera direction as you shoot movies and photos. GPS Log lets users track a photographic journey and later view the path and images on a map
  • Capture the decisive moment with up to 10fps: Capture full 18.2 megapixel resolution images at up to 10 frames per second, helping to ensure that the decisive moment is captured such as the soccer ball flying into the goal
  • 3D still image and 3D Sweep Panorama mode: Produce awe-inspiring images with 3D still image and 3D Sweep Panorama capabilities. Photos will take on a new dimension of creative capabilities for viewing the world in a whole new way
  • Picture Effect for more expressive photos: Picture Effect adds a new level of expression to photos, making ordinary landscapes and portraits come to life by heightening mood and emphasizing certain attributes
  • Photo Creativity: This allows you to fine-tune your exposure settings, such as brightness, color and vividness and quickly choose the right enhancement for your subject. Now you can view Picture Effects and Photo Creativity effects in real time on the camera's monitor
  • Background Defocus: The system takes two shots, identifies the background and applies a defocused background keeping the subject crisp and clear
  • Intelligent Sweep Panorama HR mode: With Intelligent Sweep Panorama HR mode just press the shutter, pan the landscape and let the camera do the rest. It automatically links together each frame to produce a high resolution panoramic image providing the ability to zoom in on small details
  • Superior Auto mode: The camera automatically recognizes the correct scene mode, then quickly shoots and combines up to six shots to produce images with greater clarity, optimum dynamic range using backlight correction HDR technology and lower image noise using 6 shots layering technology
  • Face Detection technology: Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and adjusts focus, exposure and white balance to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends
  • Soft Skin mode: Soft Skin mode recognizes skin tones and reduces the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles without affecting the rest of the shot
  • Smile Shutter technology: Simply press the Smile Shutter button and the camera does the rest. You can also select adult and child priority and indicate the degree of Smile Detection sensitivity
  • Anti-blink Function: It's frustrating to capture the perfect shot, only to review it later and discover subjects blinked during the photo. The Anti-blink function works to help counter blinking and squinting
  • Natural Flash: Conventional point-and-shoot camera flash shots just don't capture colors the way the eye sees them. Natural Flash controls the white balance of both the background and main subjects
  • Intelligent Scene Recognition mode: iSCN Mode automatically detects 33 different types of scenes and selects the appropriate camera settings
