Review Summary
2013-07-01T21:00:00
The camera seems to work as advertised and pretty much as noted by other reviewers. The viewfinder is a plus in bright conditions or if you need to put on your glasses to see the LCD. The backlight correction (HDR) feature significantly improves picture quality when shooting with hazy skies and in high contrast situations. The lack of a printed manual is an irritant (but not surprising) and the online / in-camera manual is not well written. Overall it seems like an excellent camera for someone who wants better pictures and more control than is available with most point and shoot cameras but doesn't want the added cost and size of a DSLR.

I purchased this camera for the sole reason of taking night-time pictures. It has a low ISO of 100 and a shutter / aperature rating of 30". I was amazed by the quality of photos this bad boy takes. It has a POWERFUL zoom (up to 60x!) and the photos you can take is just amazing.

It is a few steps up for me from Fujifilm Finepix s2950. It has better image quality, good zoom and good in low light congition. But it does take a little long to process low light shots and wish it has a bigger sensor for more detail shots.

A few steps up from my Fujifilm finepix s2950 in a bit more cast. Pretty good image quality, Nice zoom, so much better in low light condition and easy to use. But the panorama shot doesn't work as well as expected and take a little time for processing low light shots. Overall, it is a pretty good camera.

This is my first high pixel count camera and am so far very pleased, especially at this price point. I think it's a good value(and I'm not necessarily a SONY fan). It's better than a pocket point and shoot(and larger of course), but not nearly as complicated as a DSLR. It probably has more features than I will use, but I haven't explored them all either.

I first saw this camera's results on my niece's FB page, I was impressed at the color and sharpness of the landscapes and family photos. I then saw that my sister decided to get one and loved it. They were followed by another family member. For the fact that it had the movie option, and my old Sony did not, I decided to upgrade. Also the zoom and macro are amazing, without the need for lens changes. I've been a film enthusiast and have enjoyed my older Sony, but this camera is a nice step up.

1st high MP camera

This is my first high pixel count camera and am so far very pleased, especially at this price point. I think it's a good value(and I'm not necessarily a SONY fan). It's better than a pocket point and shoot(and larger of course), but not nearly as complicated as a DSLR. It probably has more features than I will use, but I haven't explored them all either.
The Sony DSC-Hx200V Digital Camera (black) puts 18.2MP, 1080/60p video capture and the grip and styling of a DSLR in the palm of your hand. Designed for the more active shooter with a need for a better grip than that of a traditional point-and-shoot, the Hx200V goes the distance. It works hard to provide you with great looking images and the extensive functionality to achieve them.
The 18.2MP images just don't happen. An entire system has to come together to make it possible. The Hx200V provides you with the tools needed, including Active 3-Way Optical Image Stabilization, a 3.0" xtra Fine LCD TruBlack display and a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 30x optical zoom lens. The lens also utilizes a 60x Clear Image Zoom.
A number of auto modes come into play when shooting the Hx200V as well. From GPS and Compass functionality for geo-tagging to iSCN for automatically adjusted camera settings, Sony gave the Hx200V a host of features that take the guesswork out of shooting. Other highlights include 10 fps burst shooting, Background Defocus and Anti-blink. And of course, no matter what you're shooting, the camera accepts Sony's Memory Stick Duo media as well as SD/SDHC and SDXC memory cards.
