This is my first professional zoom lens, and it is replacing a Nikon AF-S 70-200 f4. It is expensive and worth every penny, if you value sharpness, buttery bokeh, and fast autofocus. It is sharp where it needs to be at 2.8. Stopped down to 3.5 it is crazy sharp, yet the falloff and bokeh are just beautiful. At f4 and at every aperture and focal length, versus the AF-S f4, this lens is better. Manual focus is also very easy and the short throw to move from 70-200 is properly damped. I like this lens more and more every day.

The 70-200 f2.8 was my go-to lens with my Nikon D850 and this will continue to be on my new Z8.

If you're looking at this lens, you likely already know. What a magnificent and permanent addition to my glass collection! I waited years to spring for it, and only wish I'd do sooner! B-U-T-T-E-R!

Ultra sharp from edge to edge. Surprisingly light weight. Doesn't look insane on my Zf. Can't wait for volleyball season to begin to try out the lower light indoor performance. Easy purchase, fast shipping and excellent packaging. Thanks Adorama!

Many of you reading this probably already know the versatility and usefulness of this lens. My copy paired with my old Z6 (original) has been very sharp (corner to corner). Use this primarily for portraiture and candids at events. Love this lens!

This solid telephoto Z lens is optically excellent, focuses quickly/silently, and produces high quality images under most circumstances. It is great for freezing motion outdoors and indoors without a flash when lighting is sufficient. My copy performs reasonably well in low light situations while handheld. Photos appear sharper and more precise using Z6ii and Z6iii bodies than via my Nikon AF-S 70-200 VR II with FTZ. Video performance is also superior with less focus breathing and no related noise.

Pros: acquires very quickly, tracks well, razor sharp, pretty much mandatory for outdoor shooting, and you can add the teleconverter with virtually no loss in image quality. Cons: it's a 2.8 70-200... heavy and pricey. The add-ons are nice quality. The only real competition here is the Tamron 50-135, which has a little less reach, but more on the low end.

I opted for the kit over the lens only option, assuming there would be some added value. I mainly was interested in the lens pouch, the bag and filters. I didn't assume the filters would be top tier by any means, but the CPL is unusable. The VND is ok. The lens pouch isn't even big enough to fit the diameter of the lens, and no where close to the length. It is not the pouch in the initial kit picture (or the composite ratios were done poorly). The bag is also not the bag from the initial kit picture (the bag in subsequent image is the bag included) and would barely hold the lens and accessories. There would be no chance of using it for a camera body with the lens attached, which was the hope. The additional cost is not enough to warrant a return but with the intention of the bag and pouch for this lens, it was extremely disappointing that they do not work for this lens. It is also surprising that this would be such an oversight or intentionally misleading.

This is a great combo kit! Ao far I love this lens, got some terrific shots of the daughter at her dance recital in a dark auditorium. Portraits are also coming out great. I love it and cannot wait to explore it's abilities. Shipping was fast and it was packed great to prevent damage. Overall terrific

This lens is fantastic! I originally bought the new z70-18" 2.8 and it did not do it for me. I returned it for this one. After one weekend, I knew I made the right choice for me. The lens is 3lbs the only drawback if you could call it that and because I am a smaller frame person, weight is important to me, the weight is all in the area closest to the camera which can make it feel heavier when hand holding for long periods. I have the 400 4.5 and the weight between the two of them is minimal but this one feels heavier. After a few days, I was used to it. I would not trade this lens for anything though and I am excited to work with this lens for wildlife.

I've had one for the F mount and it was one of my main work horses. It was no brainer to buy this for my mirrorless camera.

Just got this lens and it is already my favorite! Great image quality. I was able to capture pretty clear photos of the moon. I am a hobbyist photographer that shoots for fun. I am excited to keep using this lens every day!

I am a portrait photographer who also shoots high school sporting events. I love using primes, but I needed more reach for soccer, softball, baseball, and track. While I'd love even more reach, this lens is fast and sharp and a good fit for me. I can use it for beautiful outdoor sport images and could even use it for portraits (although I don't know that I will- I LOVE my 85 1.8 for that).

This is a great Ken?s coupled with a gray camera, Nikon Z9. This lens is one of only 3 zoom lens in my bag and the only Nikkor Z lens. My other lenses are mixture of F Mount Nikon and Tamron using the FTZ adapter on my new Z9. This has been a very pricy investment in my photography kit but well worth the expense. My Z9 and D850 with my lenses go with me everywhere waiting to be released from my camera bags and put into action.

A bit heavier than my last 80-200mm Nikon zoom, the focus and handling a huge improvement. Thank you to the inventor of VR

Optically, holy wow, this lens is remarkable. Absolutely gobsmackingly impressive. It is also quite a beautiful piece of gear. This would likely be my favorite lens ever but for one detail, and that is that Nikon has switched the position of the zoom ring from the back to the front of the lens, which has been disorienting to say the least. Additionally, with the zoom ring in the front, if you have your lens hood attached inwardly, you cannot access the zoom ring as it will be blocked by the hood. For many these design flaws won?t be an issue, but they?ve been consistently disorienting for me since buying it. Every other aspect of this lens is pure gold though.

Wow! I just recently shifted to mirrorless and absolutely love this lens. I primarily use for sports action, but can see many uses in my future. It is a little heavier than I am used to, but that is also the reason it feels very durable. It's a great match for the Z6ii.

I've always loved the focal length of 70-200, it just gives such great latitude. I recently sold my F-Mount 70-200 and purchased the native Z lens. Hands down this lens is optically superior to the older F-Mount lens I had, it focuses faster and is extremely quiet and I like the images I get with it, but? There's just one flaw with this lens and it's a major one, the location of the zoom ring. Whoever decided to move the zoom ring ?away? from the camera body clearly doesn't use this lens for long periods of time or didn?t consider the ergonomics of it. For me this is a huge deal. I shoot Pageants and Seniors and with the zoom ring on the far end of the camera it causes three problems; 1. Accidentally hitting or grabbing the focus ring. 2. Makes holding the camera and lens awkward and less steady. 3. Over a period of time it is very fatiguing. Pageants last for several hours and two weeks ago I shot my first pageant with the Z-Mount and not the F-Mount 70-200, it became exhausting. Back in June I took several of my Senior Models to Hilton Head to shoot their Senior Photos and I found myself simply opting for a different lens quite often because of the zoom ring location and the fatigue it caused. As much as I like this lens it is going to be replaced with a lens that has the zoom ring close to the body and not at the end of the lens. This is a very bad design decision that wasn't thought out completely.

Continues Nikon's excellent line of 70-200mm f/2.8 zooms
By Dean G.
What more is there to say? I think this is like the fifth Nikon 70 (or 80) to 200mm f/2.8 zoom I've owned, & they've all been excellent. Only comment: Nikon should start making their tripod feet Arca-Swiss compatible, so you don't have to buy a replacement foot.
Nikon z 70-200mm
By STEVE P.
This lens simply is amazing as advertised! Super fast, incredible rendering, and matches so well with the Z system...A must have if you desire optimal results!!!
The highly-desirable 70-200mm telephoto zoom has come to the Z series. Sports, concerts, weddings, wildlife, portraiture and so much more—all with the incredible low light performance of an f/2.8 made only better by the optically superior Z mount. Optical advancements support passionate cinematographers and videographers. Class-leading close focus ability. Superior aberration suppression. And the most comprehensive optical VR image stabilization in the history of NIKKOR interchangeable lenses. The NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S sets an impressive new standard for fast telephoto zoom lenses optimized for the next generation of Nikon's advanced mirrorless cameras.
For greater framing versatility, the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S is capable of extremely short minimum focusing distances, allowing the lens' speed and performance enhancements to be realized in remarkably tight shooting scenarios. At 70mm, focus can be achieved as close as 0.5m from the subject, virtually unheard of in a telephoto zoom of this focal range.
The NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S captures astoundingly sharp images with captivating resolution and glorious clarity all the way to the edges of the frame. It's superior VR performance ensures exceptional sharpness when shooting handheld, & to combat color fringing while close focusing, an all-new multi-focusing system delivers fast, accurate autofocusing while drastically reducing aberrations.
Ultimate aberration correction—virtually zero flare, ghosting, coma or chromatic, spherical and axial aberrations, even at the far edges of the frame. A new SR (Short-wavelength Refractive) glass element further combats chromatic aberrations caused by challenging short-wavelength light.
The exceptional combination of a bright f/2.8 aperture, high resolution NIKKOR optics and the brilliant Z mount makes the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S a tireless low light performer capable of clean, sharp images and faster shutter speeds in dark scenes and interiors.
One of the many advantages of the larger Z mount is its ability to retain even illumination, especially at the corners of the frame, for bright, even exposures with minimal vignetting.
Attached to the Z Mount, the largest full frame lens mount in the industry, the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S is capable of producing stunning bokeh qualities beyond the capabilities of comparable lenses.
With built-in optical VR image stabilization effective for up to an unprecedented 5 stops* and Z series' high performance in-body image stabilization, tack-sharp images are easily achieved when shooting handheld. During video shooting, additional electronic VR (e-VR) can be enabled for even greater stability.
The NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S is a remarkable lens for video applications. Smooth, silent AF with virtually no focus breathing. Standard 77mm filter support. Superior optical image stabilization combines with the camera's* in-body image stabilization and Electronic VR. All of this added to the versatility of the highly useful 70-200mm focal range.
*In-body image stabilization not available in all Z series cameras.
The control ring can be used for quiet aperture control (great for iris transitions during video recording or situations where complete silence is critical), exposure compensation or ISO adjustments.
The NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S features two convenient customizable Fn buttons right on the lens barrel. Set them to streamline your shooting experience—preview depth of field, lock focus, magnify to confirm focus and more.
A dimmable, built-in EL (Electroluminescent) display panel allows quick, convenient confirmation of aperture, focal length, focus distance and depth-of-field, even in dark situations.
When subjects are backlit, incidental light can streak across the frame causing unwanted ghosting, reflections and flare. To counteract these anomalies and ensure crisp, clean images, the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S employs two of Nikon’s most advanced lens coatings: Nano Crystal Coat for eliminating incidental light from a diagonal direction and ARNEO Coat for eliminating incidental light from a vertical direction.
Extensively sealed to keep dust and moisture out, especially around all moving parts of the lens barrel, for worry-free durability.
Fluorine Coat, Nikon's proprietary dust, dirt and moisture repellent, provides enhanced antifouling performance, ensuring easy removal of all types of grime from the lens surface—a life-saver when shooting in harsh conditions.
