Great lens, but mine stopped focusing

I wanted this lens to work so I could have a fast 75-225 DX zoom for indoor shooting. The used example I bought stopped autofocusing on me almost as soon as I started using it. Tokina doesn't make this lens anymore and it is hard to find.

Didn't work for me

I bought this lens used, hoping it would be a useful 75-200 lens (for Nikon DX) on my D90 and D2H. It stopped autofocusing within days of buying it. I think this was just a aberration, because I've have good luck with Tokina lenses.

Razor sharp

One of the sharpest lenses I have ever used. It is heavy and focus is a little slow. But if you can get one it is highly recommended

Razor blade

one of the nicest lenses I own and Adorama description was right on the money. Just a little slow on focus but not really bad. Incredible optical performance.

Great DX lens

One of the best mid to tele zoom lenses for DX camera. Very sharp and nice bokeh. Built quality is outstanding.

A good idea, but it didn't work for me

I wanted this lens and grabbed when it showed up on the used list. The concept sounded good -- a 75-200mm f2.8 zoom for digital. Unfortunately, the lens I got stopped autofocusing almost as soon as I started using it and I had to return it. I hope this was only a case of getting a used lens that decided to break down when I got it, and not a preview of might happen to some of my other Tokina AT-X lenses for digital. My experience with Tokina lenses makes me hope that this was just bad luck.

I want to like Tokina but...

I want to like Tokina, but every lens I've bought has been returned. Chromatic Aberration, and softness are just too much to overcome. All Tokina's also give a unique color cast to photos which I can only describe as "rose" colored, not a good thing. The build and the fact that the lens zooms internally are great, but as a lens, not a fan.

Another tokina worth buying!!

I haven't gotten to shoot anything with it yet but a few portraits and some product shots but I am REALLY impressed with it's quick focus and tack sharp focusing with the aperture wide open. I expected some softness and was pleasantly surprised when it didn't rear it's ugly head. I'm surprised this lens doesn't get more great reviews. The only other con besides the tripod mount being unable to be removed would be the lack of some type of VR/IS/OS. If tokina released a lense with some type of image stabilization, I'd have to trade up! I was looking at the Nikkor 80-200 and 70-200VR and I'm glad I saved the extra bucks for an impressive lens. I've got the tokina 11-16 also and love that to death. If you buy this lens, you won't be let down.

Completely Satisfied

Tokina makes great lenses for Nikon DX cameras. This is my second Tokina lens. The other is the hard to find 11-16mm f2.8 which is also a fantastic lens. I use them on a pair of D300's.

GLAD I CHOSE THIS ONE

This lens balances well on my D300. It is not a lightweight lens.. but then again, I read the tech specs and knew that in advance! The controls are smooth. Solidly built. Focus is quick even in fairly low light situations. Optics produce very sharp images. Truthfully, I don't see any difference between this lens and the Nikon counterpart.. and the Tokina was more affordable.

Until Nikon makes one of these...

Am getting into portrait photography, and wanted a f/2.8 zoom lens. Looked into Nikon's 80-200 and 70-210, but the focal length range doesn't work as well on an APS-C camera, plus I found those lenses large and unwieldy (not to mention expensive). Debated this and the Sigma HSM; wound up going with this one due to mixed past experiences with Sigmas from years back, plus reports of lenses requiring adjustment, etc. So far, have found this lens to be great -- focus speed on a D300 is very fast, unless going from very close to very far. Image quality seems to be on par with other (Nikon) lenses I own in this price range.

Nice lens for the price

Nice lens, just remember it is for DX shooting. Light to carry that makes it easy on the neck and arms. For best results shoot either in RAW or highest quality JPEG. A little slow on focussing and sometimes not as sharp, but that could be because of using a high ISO setting. The 2.8 makes it ideal for shooting inside sports such as basketball, especially if you are using a Nikon D3 and shooting at a high ISO settings between 3200-6400. The price can not be beat for what you get. This is my first Tokina and it works for me.

Nice lens on all fronts

This is a very good lens. I have had 2 magazine photos published that were shot with this lens. I use it on a Nikon D80 digital camera.I am very pleased with its performance. Nothing negative to say, NICE LENS.

Great Lens!!

I have been shooting wedding photography for over three years now. I am shooting with a Nikon D300 camera. I started shadowing a pro that is doing platinum weddings in Washington DC. He uses the lens and recommended that I try it. I tried it on a wedding that I shot with him last weekend. This lens is really sharp! It is the DX equivalent to the Nikon 70-200 mm VR lens and the pictures are very comparable to the Nikon lens.

Not a Nikkor, but does the job just fine

My budget didn't allow for a medium-length lens from Nikon so I checked this out and was satisfied with the reviews. Tack sharp for portraits, great speed for sports.

I absolutely love this lens!

This is an excellent lens. I love the internal zoom, the constant f/2.8 aperture, the amazing colors, the sharp focus, and the great bokeh. Anywhere you would use a 70-200 on a full-frame camera, this is a perfect replacement for DX format cameras. If you only buy one, two, or three lenses, be sure this is one of them.

The new Tokina AT-x 535 PRO DX lens is a 50-135 with a fast constant aperture of f/2.8. This lens gives digital photographers the similar to the industry standard 80-210 telephoto zoom lens in 35mm camera terms but is much more compact and lightweight.

The lens features SD glass lens elements to correct for chromatic aberrations and focuses all colors accurately at the film plane, making the AT-x 535 PRO DX an APO lens.

The front element has a newly formulated WP or "Water Proof" optical coating on the glass. This new coating makes marks such as spots left by water or finger-prints much easier to clean than standard multi-coating.

Other features include a built-in tripod collar and One-touch focus clutch mechanism for fast switching between auto focus and manual focus modes.
