This is a really great camera that takes beautiful footage, but if you care about customer service buy this somewhere else. My company bought this camera from Adorama for a shoot that was happening a few weeks later and the camera arrived with a defective sensor and would not turn on. I know this is nobody's fault it happens, but their customer service would not replace the camera or offer any kind of solution other than call Canon for a warranty claim. So because of shipping and repair times the almost $6k camera we bought wont be used on the shoot we specifically got it for. So my advice is if you are spending this kind of money I would go to company that actually backs up their sales and cares about their clients like B&H or buy directly from Canon. And just in case anyone is wondering I talked to 3 different customer service reps. and a supervisor over the course of about 4 days trying to get them to return or exchange the broken camera they sold me. So once more I say, buy somewhere else.

Let me start by comparing this camera to the cameras I have used personally. I have read countless reviews based solely on specs. Yes this camera is extreme in choices of image quality. Here is how I get around it. I use the Angelbird 1tb CFast. Gives me 136 min of RAW recording at 4k 10 bit 60fps. From there I mount the CFast and convert if needed to 10 bit 422 pro res using the free Canon RAW utility. This Camera runs side by side to my Canon C-500. Image matches well. The key to this camera is the small form factor to run and gun. Battery life on the C-500 is 60 min shooting 4K using the BP-975. The C-200 is around 3 1/2 hours using the BP-A60 using Phantom power. Build quality is top notch. Nothing compares to it. I had the Panasonic EVA-1 and returned it. The plastic moved and makes cracking noises. Image is nice. Really nice. The Focus Assist on the EVA-1 is the best I ever used. Small green blocks that get bigger with focus. But Canon Dual Pixel autofocus is king.

Perfect for its ergonomics, fast razor sharp autofocus, lightweight design, and killer codec!
The Canon C200 Digital Cinema Camera is an all-in-one, ready-to-film video production package. This prosumer camcorder includes an integrated electronic viewfinder, a 4-inch touchscreen LCD display monitor, a versatile operating handle, a comfortable hand grip, a mic holder, and an assortment of other useful accessories for your professional videography needs.
Equipped with a powerful 8.85MP Super 35mm CMOS sensor, this camera’s exceptional video recording capabilities include internal 4K RAW in Cinema RAW Light format (saved straight to a CFast™ 2.0 memory card), as well as UHD and FHD video recording in MP4 format. It also offers Dual Pixel CMOS AF, up to 13 stops of dynamic range, HDR capability, and complete compatibility with Canon EF-mount lenses. These allow the Canon C200 to deliver only high-quality imagery, optimum performance, and incredible versatility for film and TV production, news coverage, and even corporate and event videography.
Built into the Canon EOS C200 is a high-performance 8.85-megapixel Super 35mm CMOS sensor, which supports the recording of cinema-grade DCI 4K videos at 4096 x 2160 resolution and enables Over Sampling HD Processing for Full HD 1080/60p and 2K DCI videos.
This powerful sensor also features an enhanced sensitivity to light, with each sensor pixel maintaining a wide pixel pitch to help maximize the available light that reaches the sensor. At the same time, the Canon EOS C200 boasts of improved noise reduction capabilities for minimal noise during extreme low-light recording, even at high ISO speeds of up to 102,400.
The sensor also offers reduced data-readout time to help eliminate rolling shutter distortions (also known as the “jello effect”) that can occur when shooting from a moving vehicle or while recording handheld with a long lens.
One major factor that contributes to the Canon C200’s creative potential as a filmmaking workhorse is its full compatibility with over 100 (new and existing) Canon EF and EF-S lenses. These include the brand’s specialized tilt-shift lenses, fisheye lenses, and 4K CN-E Cinema prime and zoom lenses such as the ENG-style CINE-SERVO and COMPACT-SERVO zooms. This significant improvement in EF lens communication capability allow compatibility with the Dual-Pixel CMOS AF technology for smooth and high-performance focus tracking; the display of CN-E Cinema lens T-values; access to lens metadata; and the correction of chromatic aberration.
The camcorder also allows you to conveniently switch between camera displays to show aperture values either in F-stops, which is ideal for measuring light that reaches the sensor during still photography; or in T-values, which professional videographers find to be more traditional and accurate in measuring light when filming on movie sets. This feature makes it easy for beginners and professional photographers to transition from photography to videography, and vice versa.
The EOS C200 Digital Cinema Camera features a built-in 1.77-million dot, 0.46-inch Electronic Viewfinder and a detachable and adjustable 1.23-million dot, 4-inch LCD Monitor with touchscreen capabilities (LM-V1). These components enable more convenient and flexible monitoring while shooting and allow you to instantly view previously captured media. The touchscreen display provides quick and easy access to menu options and camera controls, and enables fast focusing with a single tap of a finger.
The camera also features a Rosette-style grip that enables steady handling and focusing. For greater versatility, the ergonomic handle can easily rotate and be detached from the camera.
The handle features its own screw to enable fast and easy tool-less attachment to the EOS C200 body. It also offers the option to mount various accessories to accommodate different photographic and filming applications.
The Canon EOS C200 Digital Cinema Camera features the newly developed Dig!c DV 6—the brand’s 6th generation image processor, which utilizes proprietary technology to ensure premium-quality output. Armed with not just one, but two of these powerful processors, the Canon C200 is able to deliver optimum imaging performance and high-resolution image data processing.
The Over Sampling HD Processing* system in the EOS C200 makes use of the camera’s powerful 4K image expression in 2K (2048 x 1080) and Full HD (1920 x 1080) video recording to meet a broad range of creative and professional video production needs.
*Not available with Cinema RAW Light recording or 120p/100p
The Canon EOS C200 Digital Cinema Camera supports an ISO range of 160 to 25,600. This range can be extended to 100 to 102,400 under the “Extended Sensitivity” option. Lower ISO values provide more creative freedom by enabling the use of large apertures for achieving shallower depths of field, while higher ISO values assist the user in achieving well-exposed images when shooting under low-light conditions.
The Canon C200 also features Canon’s breakthrough Dual Pixel CMOS AF Technology (DAF). This means that each sensor pixel is comprised of two independent photodiodes, which function together as one solitary pixel. These photodiodes have the ability to capture light independently of each other for better image reproduction and more accurate object detection.
With phase-difference AF, the C200 delivers smoother, faster, and more accurate focusing when using Canon EF lenses—thus providing greater ease for single-operator shooting.
Using any Canon EF lens*, the EOS C200 allows quick AF with a single press of a button and locks it for continuous AF within 80% of the frame. Face Detection AF is also enabled for automatically tracking and maintaining focus on a person’s face anywhere within the frame. This camcorder also allows the user to set the AF tracking speed and response for greater accuracy.
*Excluding manual focus lenses
Achieve quick and easy autofocus using the included Touch Screen LCD Monitor (LM-V!). To enjoy intuitive focusing, simply tap your subject (or background) on the screen with your finger to bring it into focus.
Using the Dual Pixel CMOS AF data, the EOS C200’s Dual Pixel Focus Guide is able to display focus assist information right on the screen. This advanced feature makes it even easier to achieve precise focus, especially when shooting ultra high-resolution 4K videos.
The Dual Pixel Focus displays a rectangle, which can be used for focusing on a subject. Once optimum focus has been achieved, the rectangle will turn green. If it is out of focus, the rectangle will turn gray and assistive arrows will help indicate the direction in which the lens should be adjusted to achieve the correct focus.
The Canon C200 also has a focus pre-set feature that allows the user to select separate predetermined focus points. Once the SET button is pressed, the lens will automatically move its focus from one preset focus point to another, providing ease during filming where the user has to focus on multiple subjects within a scene.
Auto-Focus tuning is enabled thanks to the newly developed menu function, which provides easy access to settings for both the camcorder and lens. The AF Speed can be used to set the drive speed of the lens up to 10 steps and AF subject tracking can be varied and set to any of 7 steps, allowing the user to set their desired responsiveness when shooting a moving subject.
Featuring Canon’s brand new Cinema RAW Light recording format, the EOS 200 is capable of recording ultra high-definition 4K RAW videos and storing them as smaller files compared to standard RAW*1 files—but without compromising resolution and ensuring high color reproducibility and wide dynamic range.
*1 Standard RAW: EOS C500/EOS C300 Mark II/EOS C700 camera RAW
Cinema RAW Light files are only about 1/3 to 1/5 the size of standard RAW files. This format ensures smaller file sizes and reduced bit rate speeds, which allow for faster transfer of data, internal recording to CFast™ memory cards, extended storage capacity, and convenient file transfer via networks. With Cinema RAW Light’s high bit depth (10bit/12bit*2), retention of color and dynamic range information is maximized, which is crucial for HDR imagery.
*2 12bit for 4K/30p and under, 10bit for 4K/60p and 50p. Each bit is efficiency-optimized in consideration of visual properties
Cinema RAW Light files can be converted to other file formats, including DPS and Apple ProPres, for post-production and online delivery through the Canon CRD software.
The EOS C200 allows recording of 4K video to a CFast™ 2.0 memory card and 2K proxy video to an SD card at the same time. With its smaller file size, the 2K proxy file allows for easier editing during post-production.
This professional camcorder offers 4K UHD as well as Full HD video recording at up to 60fps in MP4 format. Thanks to the MP4 codec’s compact size, the camera can directly store captured images to any SD card.
Mirror recording of 4K UHD and Full HD images files in MP4 format is also possible. They are saved to two SD card slots at the same time, cutting precious minutes and eliminating the need to manually create copies after recording.
High-speed video recording in Full HD at 120p/100p allows for endless possibilities in visual expression, including producing slow-motion videos and creative footage with special effects.
The EOS C200C Digital Cinema Camera is capable of supporting a variety of workflows for professional and commercial purposes. The Cinema RAW Light format provides the highest color fidelity and broadest dynamic range suitable for post-production work.
Onboard recording of MP4 files is also achievable for newsgathering and other recording applications where high image quality and post-production speed are crucial.
With the goal to support emerging HDR standards, the Canon C200 has been developed to support both ACES 1.0 and HDR imaging. Canon continues to closely collaborate with 3rd party developers to ensure full compatibility for new formats with NLE and grading systems.
Years of advancement has led Canon to create Cinema RAW Development 2.0—a free and downloadable mature workflow that supports the new Cinema RAW Light format. The brand has also retained features from the previous release, such as HDR monitoring support, ACES 1.0, Canon Log Gammas, and more.
The Canon RAW Plugin 2.0 for Avid® Media Access is also free to download. It allows users to import their Canon Cinema Raw data directly into an Avid Media Composer® System, resulting in a more efficient workflow, shorter import durations, and hassle-free, real-time playback
Recording in ITU-R BT.2100 standard (PQ) is supported by the EOS C200, as well as HDR onset monitoring using HDR compatible reference displays. The built-in Electronic Viewfinder can also be used to access the new View Assist feature for a reference view similar to the PQ standard. The View Assist feature enables the displayed dynamic range to be selected for 400% or 160% and linear display. With these innovations, operators can confidently shoot HDRs while being guided by previews of the end result.
The Academy Color Encoding System (ACES 1.0) is fully supported by the EOS C200 Digital Cinema Camera. Using Canon’s integrated device technologies, the camera can directly import images into ACES-compatible systems, including the brand’s full line of 4K UHD Reference Displays.
The ACESproxy also allows monitoring by sending video output that simulates ACES space to compatible screens or devices. Operators can modify the proxy output and save the changes for later use in editing and in the grading suite to accurately reproduce changes and color choices.
*0.7 not supported
The Canon EOS C200 Digital Cinema Camera is equipped with built-in neutral density filters for increased shooting versatility and speed. These unique photographic filters give operators more control over image exposure in bright shooting situations, especially when the use of large apertures is required to achieve shallow depths of field.
