Getting it balanced will consume most of your time, but once you have it balanced, life is grand. It is great for getting motion shots and remains stable during outdoor use. The fine tuning feature makes adding parts to your camera an easy fix. The instruction book isn't the best, but there are plenty of walkthroughs on YouTube to help you. The biggest drawback of it is that it does not come with a carrying case and does not break down that much so it is not the most convenient thing to carry around

Used a little more now. A very nice little thing that works very well for it's purpose.

I set it up and balanced it before I went out. Then tested it first at ice skating. It worked very well, but with a D800 and heavy lens(17-37/2.8 AFS) I quickly decided that extra support is needed if the video clips are to be long. The vest is really needed. As expected it is affected quite a lot by wind too, but it might be more stable if set up with more weight and a shorter pole length. Takes practice, but not as much as some claim.

We use the Glidecam for shooting weddings...and we love it!! We have seen many reviews stating that there is a big learning curve, but for us, we were happy with the results the very first time we used it. HUGE difference in capturing those creative moving shots! Proper balance is key...Philip Bloom has a great tutorial on his site, on how to balance this sweet-puppy. Wish it came with a quick-release plate, other than that, this thing rocks!

Glidecam can be a really great addition to your productions, but this tool takes time to master. Do not assume that you will unbox it at your next shoot and be ready to go. Give yourself a good 8-10 hrs of serious practice before you step in front of talent or the client. All of the balancing issues you read about are true, but it can be done. You'll find yourself at the hardware store looking for medium sized fender washers to get the balance precise, as the weights that Glidecam provides do not allow for incremental adjustments. For us, a slower drop time of 2.5 to 3 seconds works best. Matching your camera rigs weight to the right Glidecam is critical. Find a precise weight scale (post office or mailroom) to make sure you know which Glidecam to purchase. Be sure to allow for ALL equipment, like cables, clamps, external mics, monitors, batteries, etc. If your camera rigs weight is not properly matched to the Glidecam, you'll never find happiness. All in all, for its price point, the Glidecam can help give you some really amazing footage… with practice and patience.

The design and ease of balancing is fantastic. Very high level of quality. Very well made.

Perfect for chasing my kids with my T3i to capture some precious memories onto HD video. Only downside is the weight capacity which rules out the use of any heavier wide angle zooms. The HD-1000 is just the right size to avoid needing a vest or arm brace to capture 2-3 minute clips.

I was told this product was hard to set up, follow the instructions I was filming with my 5D in under 30 minutes.

You would think that they could include a detailed instructional video on the use of this device. It is very difficult to learn how to balance the camera and how to produce a steady video. You [$] for the device which includes poor written instructions then you are offered a detailed instructional DVD for an additional $100. Give me a break!

it's a Great tool for making small or bigger productions. unfortunately it's very heavy so it's recommended that you consider the arm and west. i use it with my 5D MK II and a 17-40mm lens. but i plan to use it with my XH A1s and put a screen in the bottom.

I use the Glidecam HD 4000 with my Canon XHA1. Using them together without a harness, gets very heavy, very quickly. But overall this product is great and can elevate the quality of your work a lot.

The Glidecam HD-4000 is a Stabilizer System for Small Sized Video Cameras up to 4-10 Lbs. This system is upgraded from the 4000 Pro and offers fine adjustments and an improved gimbal and balance system.
The Glidecam HD-Series offers advanced features and a degree of sophistication never before seen in a line of Hand-held Camera Stabilizers.
With the Glidecam HD-Series hand-held Stabilizers your camcorder seems to float, always balanced, isolated from your hands undesirable motions. Now you are free to move with your camera - panning, tilting, booming or running without any camera instability or shake.
The Glidecam HD-Series works so well that it allows you to shoot incredibly smooth and graceful shots even while going to extremes like running up and down stairs or traveling over rugged terrain. And when it comes to normal shooting, like walking or moving the camera slowly around someone, the results are equally magical.
Each HD-Series Stabilizer's offset, foam cushioned, Handle Grip is attached to a free floating, three axis Gimbal. This allows your hand to move up and down, and side-to-side, thereby isolating your hand's unwanted motions from the camera. This up and down movement alleviates the bouncing, pogo type action often associated with competitors systems because their handle cannot move up and down. This design feature, coupled with the overall higher inertia of the HD-Series systems, produces superior stabilization when compar ed with the competition.
A unique and proprietary, precision, three-axis Gimbal incorporates several adjustable, axis convergence controls. This allows all three axes to intersect for proper operational alignment.
A camera-mounting platform with a quick-release, no-tools, drop-on camera plate allows you to quickly attach or remove your camera. Ergonomic, control knobs allow quick, precise adjustment of the top stage's back and forth, and side-to-side movement. These controls allow you to adjust the camera's horizontal balance.
