Backup Lens for Real Estate

I purchased this lens as a backup lens for my D810 and D750. I currently shoot real estate and this lens a perfect in every way. I previously owned the the DX version paired with my D7000 and was happy with that version as well. Sharp images every time. Great addition to my gear.

Three Year Report

I bought this lens from Adorama about three years ago. I have many Nikon lenses that I like such as the 12 24mm which is a DX lens that I use on my D7200, or my little D3300 that I use for hiking. It's OK, but this lens on my Df FX format is just mind blowing. There is no distortion. Colors pop, and the sharpness is like no other lens I own. The Nikon 20mm FX format lens is good, but this Tokina blows it out of the water. Try to get it on sale. If you shoot landscapes you have to have this lens. It's great.

it was nice, until some spots (oil?) appeared on images.

Been looking for an ultrawide zoom since I got my latest full frame Nikon. I had owned the DX Tokina in the past, and found it great quality and value. After getting the 17-35 I headed out for a day of shooting. First images were exactly what I expected, nice, decently sharp images (edges get a little soft, but not bad). But as I went through with processing the shots from the second half of the day i noticed some spots in the same locations across all of the afternoon images. I tested the camera with a different lens, the sensor proved be clean, so the issue was with the lens itself. Had to return it (Easy with Adorama) I was going to try another copy of the lens, but as all of this was happening a friend offered me a great deal on the Nikon 16-35 f/4. The Nikon images a maybe a little nicer than the Tokina, though the Tokina had a lot less distortion. For the money, I'd still recommend it, but test it thoroughly when you get it.

Good, sharp lens

Bought this for real estate photography to go w my FX body. Previously used the Sigma 10-20mm (very sharp lens) when I was using a DX body. The Tokina is sharp and delivers w/o vignettes. Haven’t tried it for landscape photography yet

Very sharp and value for money

I am serious hobbyist/semi-professional photographer and I wanted a wide angle lens for architecture and landscape photography. This 17-35 range is perfect for my work and very sharp. And most important does not break the bank!

An AMAZING lens for an amazing price

I have had previous experience with Tokina lenses and optics; having used the 11-16mm on my D5100 and D7100. The DX lens provided spectacular performance, producing vibrant color and razor sharp images. When I purchased the D750, I needed a full frame wide angle optic. I purchased the 17-35mm FX lens and am very pleased with it. This lens performs beautifully. I was initially concerned about the F4 speed. However, I found no issues with speed of focus indoors or out. Images are vibrant with crisp contrast and vibrant color rendition. Sharpness, like it's DX counterpart, is outstanding. The lens is relatively light but is very well constructed. The lens mounts solidly to the camera. Like the DX counterpart, zoom ring action is solid and smooth. Manual focusing is achieved by the push pull ring at the front of the lens. It is very easy to shift between focus modes without taking the camera from your eye, unlike more expensive lenses that have a switch on the side of the lens barrel. FX format optics are typically really expensive. It is fortunate that Tokina has produced such an amazing lens at such a reasonable price. This lens will not disappoint.Write your review here. It must be at least 10 characters long. Consider whether you would recommend this product and what you like or dislike about it.

Great lens for starting out in real estate photography.

I’m new to real estate photography and bought this lens asba less expensive wide angle lens. Adorama is fast on delivery and excellent on customer service. I ordered on the chat and received great service.

So much bang for the buck

I purchased this lens for my "bread & butter" real estate gigs, and it gets the job done very well in that respect. The unexpected bonus was that this lens is an amazing creative tool for my "fun stuff." Build quality is excellent, barrel distortion is well controlled even at 17mm, resolution is good throughout all focal lengths and all but the widest aperture, and I noticed no chromatic aberrations. The manual/automatic focus switch is awkward (actuated by snapping the focus ring in/out, but you get used to it, and it's not worth losing a star. Videographers should be warned... the AF motor is loud. Again, so much lens for so little money, it wouldn't be fair to deny the 5-star rating. The Canon equivalent will cost you 3 or 4 times more cabbage. I tested this lens against the Tarmon equivalent (about 2x as pricey), and this lens is superior in every way to the Tamron. This review is based on an EF mount on a full frame body (Canon 5D Mk IV).

A very good wide angle lens

I've been using this lens for about 3 years now. It's quite good in terms of image quality, the wide angle and weight. Some f2.8 lenses are at least 1,5-2 times as heavy. If you think you don't need more shallow depth of field, I'd say go for this. Pricewise it's also quite good. I purchased mine at above 500$ rate but now it looks that the price has dropped dramatically. You may even use this when you go on travel and don't want to carry more than one lens. I take my 50mm d1.4 as well, only because it's the Nikon D series and very light.

Decent lens for starting interior photography

I got it mostly for real estate photography. Everything seems to work well. A little chromatic aberration in certain lighting conditions and a fair amount of barrel distortion at the widest angles, but it's a solid lens for a price. Get this to get started and then buy a better one when you have the money.

A Great Lens at a Great Price

This is a stunning lens with very little falloff in the corners at the widest settings. For the price I believe it would be hard to beat.

At 17mm, there is noticable "flare" in the lower right hand corner. Returning for a refund

Finally i got this lens and it's exactly what i needed

I have been running around the past year with my 5omm on my Nikon and my 85mm but always felt like i just needed some more wide angle that i couldn't get on my two len's. Finally i got this lens and it's exactly what i needed, i'm primarily a street photographer, haven't done much landscape yet, but have found it to be the perfect balance for me when i'm doing an alley way, or interiors of a cool bar, i love it and it really works for me and with the 30 day return, it's a bonus if i didn't like it!

Excellent for the Price

The lens is very sharp throughout. There is some vignetting at 17mm but not very pronounced. To get a better lens would cost three times as much. Other lens in this category generally do not accept screw on filters like a ND or polarizer. The f4 aperture is fine as the lens is used mostly for landscapes with a tripod and slow shutter speeds. I did not receive the UV Filter with the kit.

Well made, good optics, easy to use, light weight, good value

This is my 2nd Tokina lens, the first was a 12-28 DX, which I've used for over 2 years in real estate photography and about 800 homes shot with it. I got a D750 a couple of months ago and decided to go with the bigger brother. It's as good of a lens, really like the focus ring snapping forward or back to switch between AF and MF. I almost always shoot manual focus for real estate and some times don't want the focus ring to move, so I lock in the AF position and if the focus is moved by accident, it's ineffective on the focus in this position....Be sure the camera switch is set on MF also. Optics are very good and sharp. Very low and predictable flares and ghosting when shooting into the sun, which is what I have to do at times. The center is quite sharp and the corners are good. I generally shoot between f/7.1 and f/11, which is where this lens performs quite well. At ($), it's a great value. We test my 12-28 with a Nikon 24-70, which is supposed to be a sharp lens.......Tested both lenses on my camera, just shot with one, switched lenses, and reshot the same exact settings.....iso 100, f/8 and both lenses on manual focus, my friend and I can't tell the difference between the two lenses from corner to corner. We had signs, tree leaves, fonts, a store and a car in our frame, so in real world test, we were impressed with the Tokina's performance. I'm sure if we opened up the aperture, the Nikon would start to show its advantages.

Awesome bang for the buck!

I was a happy user of Tokina 11-16 DX lens for years. So picking a wide angle lens for my D600 was pretty easy. A promo discount helped. I heavily rely on a Lightroom profile for this lens.

Excellent for real estate

I purchased this lens after reading that it has very low distortion on a full frame camera. I chose it over the Nikkor for the lower distortion. I have been very pleased with this lens, it has worked well on my full frame digital and F5 film camera. It has now been used to shoot 2 weddings and over a dozen homes and I've yet to find a drawback. It would be nice if it went to 14mm, but 17 is workable at the wide end.

Great Landscape Lens

Got this lens mounted on my D800 now and have had time to put it through the paces. Tested it on a tripod with a remote trigger with a contant focal point and ran it through the stops. This lens is soft up to f5.6 and then it sharpens up and is best at f8 to f10 where diffraction settles in. THis is true through all the focal ranges but a little worse at 17mm and 35mm. Best at around 20mm.Having said that now i will say that in this lenses sweet spot it is sharp and has very low distortion. I shoot at f8 to f11 for landscape so softness wide open doesnt bother me. The edges are a little soft wide open at 17mm and is expected on a super wide angle.Great lens for the money. Build qulaity is top notched as you expect from a Pro Tokina lens.

Better than a 17-40L for me.

I shoot mostly weddings and portraits and have been through several wide angle lenses for both crop and FF cameras. My workhorse body is a FF so I generally stick to FF compatible lenses and I needed a wide angle lens that I was happy with both the performance and price. So far this lens is it for me after owning the Canon 17-40L, 16-35L v1, Sigma 12-24, and selling each one because I wasn't happy using them. As a direct competitor to the 17-40L this lens feels like it's built better, with super smooth, well dampened zoom and focus rings, a hood that snaps into place nicely and stays there, and has far less distortion at the wide end. I can now shoot wide shots and barely if at all have to correct the distortion before I'm happy with them! For about the same money this is a better lens. I would have given the Tokina 16-28 f2.8 a shot but I don't like that it doesn't accept filters and it's not weather sealed. I shoot with a lens bag and often stack my lenses without caps for quick access and lens changes so I do use protective filters and the bulging front element of the 16-28 is too much of a risk for this. Rated at 4 stars because of a slight purple fringe issue but nothing that is a deal breaker in any way. Would have gone 4.5 if available.

Designed for Full-Frame cameras, the Tokina AT-X 17-35mm F/4 give photographers a new wide-angle option. With a focal length of 17mm at the wide side the lens yields a spectacular 103.9 degree field of view which is great for shooting in tight situations or for taking in wide expanses of space.

This compact wide-angle zoom has a bright constant F/4 aperture make viewing and auto focus possible in lower light situations but still maintaining a reasonable size and weight.

Two Super-Low Dispersion glass elements and one aspheric glass allow the proprietary optical design to achieve excellent contrast and sharpness as well as controlling chromatic aberration.

Tokina's exclusive One-touch Focus Clutch Mechanism allows the photographer to switch between AF and MF simply by snapping the focusring forward for AF and back toward the lens mount for manual focusing. Additionally the mechanics have been designed for better seals around moving parts making the lens more water-resistant* than lenses of the past. The lens is also designed to stand up to the rigors of daily use by photographers in a wide variety of shooting conditions and environments.

* The AT-X 17-35 is only water-resistant, not water-proof and is not designed tobe submerged or used unprotected in heavy rain.
