Sound is a beautiful wave to ride with Denon's AVR-S970H. My only beef is the 285 page manual. I don't find it as user friendly as I'd like. However, I also am not an old hand at stereo equipment. It would be nice if Denon could create a quick set up guide that is maybe 5 pages then you can lay the manual tome on us. Basics -- bought it to enjoy a solid sound with radio and CD player (Marantz 6007). Connected speakers (Cambridge) and subwoofer (Polk). I had to hunt down the setup for the subwoofer decibels using Denon's remote before I could hear out of the subwoofer. Also, at first I connected the CD player into the "media player" plug-ins, not realizing there are separate plug ins for a CD player. The packaging of the refurbished item was adequate but not as well packaged as any of the brand new stereo pieces purchased. But thankfully, it's fine, looks mint. I did buy an upgrade of audio wire from Crutchfield. I didn't even know speaker wires existed that cost so much per foot (the ones I did not buy). Oh, and I also set it up with a heavy duty power surge and interference queller (Furman). Sounds beautiful.

Easy to set up and configure. Enjoying 5. 1 surround any time it's supported. A solid receiver that powers my KEF speakers beautifully.

Price v. Quality is excellent. As a previous owner of a Denon AVR I was pleased to see there has been no compromise in production. Works great, and is practically plug n play. I'm very pleased, Thank you Robert B. MacFarlane

This AVR fills all the needs we have. It is very flexible and thus a bit more challenging to setup for our specific needs. So far it has performed flawlessly and I would recommend it.

For 15 years I had my Denon 3801 which I loved but decided to upgrade and got an even better 5. 1/7. 1 sound for my TV including Streaming Channels like Netflix & Apple. I have the sound set as Dolby Surround. The CD sound is fantastic as well as I listen in "Multi Stereo Channel" Mode so the sound goes through my 5 Orb Satellite speakers & Subwoofers. I have a Doge 6 Tube CD Player from China. The AVR-S970H exceeded my expectations. My only criticism is there is no Physical Manual like there was for my Denon 3801. You have to go go online and download it & use from your computer which in my opinion is a Grade A pain in the ass. I do recommend if you've never set up a Denon A/V Receiver before to get it installed & set up by a place like Best Buy instead of trying to do it yourself to save money & mess things up. It's worth the extra money payng for someone to set it up correctly!

I own an LG OLED55B6 55-Inch 4K UHD Multi-HDR with Dolby Vision Smart Flat Big-Screen OLED Television (2016 Model) in which I bought it for nearly $2,500 plus tax+installation on Saturday 2/18/2017 and hooked it up in my house on Monday 3/06/2017 and i freakin love this picture quality & I am deeply blown away by the picture quality - it is so groundbreaking revolutionary innovative beautiful advanced immersive punchy realistic detailed = Deper-than-Deep Black Levels+Infinite Contrast+Wide Color Gamut+Intense Cinematic Color+OLED+High Dynamic Range Formats: Dolby Vision & HDR10+4K Ultra High Definition it is so amazing even Full-HD SDR, 4K SDR, or 4K HDR films look extremely amazing the one thing I did not like about this tv is that it does not have Dolby Atmos support meaning many films on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ etc. will only say 5. 1 on many of the 4K UHD HDR/Dolby Vision films documentaries and tv series that were al mixed in Dolby Atmos I have two devices that have Dolby Atmos 1) Apple TV 4K Media Player with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos and 2) Oppo 4K UHD BluRay Player with Dolby Atmos DTSX and Dolby Vision - in the past I could not get Dolby Atmos to work very flawlessly when I had both a Sony HTZ9F & SAZ9R 5. 1 Channel Wireless Dolby Atmos/DTS-X Surround Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer and Wireless Rear Surround Speakers & No Upward-Firing Height Elevation Speakers (which sounded very average compared to a either a Wired High-End Dolby Atmos Home Theater Surround Sound Speaker System or a High-End Wireless Dolby Atmos Home Theater Surround Sound System both with Upward-Firing Height Elevation Speakers i. e. Nakamichi Shockwafe Wireless Dolby Atmos/DTS-X Premium Home Theater Surround Sound Soundbar-Based System Series or Sony HTA9/HTA9M2 Wireless Four-Piece Premium Discrete Dolby Atmos/DTS-X Home Theater Surround Sound System) and my Onkyo TXSR444 Dolby Atmos Receiver paired with my Klipsch 5. 1. 2 Channel Dolby Atmos Home Theater Surround Sound Loudspeaker System (in which I'm the receiver does not have both HDR or Dolby Vision so I had to connect my Apple TV and Oppo 4K BluRay Player to the LG B6 OLED TV in which all three have HDR & Dolby Vision but won't be able to output Dolby Atmos however when Denon announced these upcoming new Dolby Atmos/DTSX Home Theater Receivers ranging from seven nine to eleven channels including the AVRS970H in September 2022 that all have Dolby Atmos DTSX HDR Dolby Vision Audyssey Room Correction Software and Two Nine Channel Dolby Atmos/DTS-X Receivers costing from $1,600 to $2,500 with Dirac Live I wanted to buy one of those for under $2,000 so I read reviews on the Denon AVRS970H and this model got very very great reviews from critics consumers & users in which the AVRS970H Denon Receiver sounds extremely great for movies tv shows documentaries games music and sports and has very great features and performance so I got the Denon AVRS970H Dolby Atmos/DTSX Receiver on Saturday 06/10/2023 I bought it for nearly $800 including tax and on Sunday 06/11/2023 I hooked up the new receiver to my Klipsch 5. 1. 2 Channel Dolby Atmos Home Theater Surround Sound System then and calibrated my Denon AVRS970H 7. 2 Channel Dolby Atmos AV Receiver+Klipsch 5. 1. 2 Channel Dolby Atmos Home Theater Surround Sound System I connected my Apple TV 4K Media Player with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos & Oppo 4K UltraHD Multi-HDR with Dolby Vision BluRay Player with Dolby Atmos and DTSX to the receiver because now my new Dolby Atmos receiver: Denon AVRS970H has Dolby Atmos Dolby Surround DTSX DTS:Neural-X Audyssey MultEQ HDR & Dolby Vision and a year later in July 2024 after getting things working very correctly tweaking & adjusting the sound quality, the bass management, the frequency response by leave the front speakers at 60hz the surround speakers at 80hz (thx-like sound quality) the center speaker at 110hz (for very crystal-clearer great detailed dialogue) the upward-firing Dolby Atmos/DTS:X-enabled height elevation speakers to 120hz and the 12-inch subwoofer's low pass filter set to 80hz (for thx-like level sub-bass), leaving both cinema eq and dynamic compression off, changing the channel decibel level adjustment by leaving the two front speakers at +9. 5, the center speaker to +12. 0, the two Dolby Atmos/DTSX height upward firing speakers to +10. 0 the subwoofer set to +5. 0, and the two surround speakers set to +9. 5 and the Audyssey MultEQ Room Correction such as adjusting the sound on the app via iPhone and switching Dynamic Volume from Heavy to Light for maximum room filling high quality louder low compression sound and calibrating the sound quality a few times not only I finally got Dolby Atmos to work very flawlessly on the Apple TV Player but many films tv shows and music show the Dolby Atmos logo on multiple streaming apps on the Apple TV Player like Netflix Amazon Prime Disney Plus Max Paramount Plus Apple TV Plus Movies Anywhere Fandango at Home and Apple Music plus even better the Dolby Atmos signal is finally being outputted from the Apple TV to the receiver in order for the input signal to say Dolby Atmos then passes through the 4K HDR/Dolby Vision video signals from the receiver to the tv in very good sync I have lots of 4K UHD Blu Rays that all have Dolby Atmos and DTSX Soundtracks and when secondary audio is both disabled and turned off on the 4K UHD BluRay player many of my BluRays show Dolby Atmos & DTSX on the main menu while the Dolby Atmos/DTSX content is outputted from the BluRay player to the receiver which I finally got DTSX to be outputted and sent from the 4K UHD BluRay Player to the AV Receiver even Dolby Atmos BluRays are finally being outputted from the 4K UHD BluRay player and I freakin love the sound quality I am deeply blown away by the sound quality my new Denon AVRS970H receiver for watching enjoying and listening to movies tv show's documentaries sports and music either in Dolby Atmos DTSX, 7. 1/5. 1 Standard Surround Content Disc or Streamed Upmixed to Multi-Channel Stereo) or Stereo (Upmixed to Multi-Channel Stereo) sounded a lot much more atmospheric three-dimensional immersive dynamic cinematic punchy stunning realistic detailed impactful room-filling crystal clearer cleaner richer advanced awesome powerful than my older Onkyo TXSR444 receiver with Dolby Atmos when listening and enjoying to high octane music and watching listening and enjoying many high octane films and tv shows and even sports I was deeply immersed right inside the center of the story in which i can hear lots of sound objects flying above around through behind me and it gets extremely loud punchy immersive room filling and it totally sounds like a real life commercial movie theater that rivals my nearby commercial movie theaters and I am enjoying the films tv shows and music in the way the filmmakers: directors producers the sound team: sound recordists sound editors sound designers sound mixers dialogue/adr team foley team plus the musical team: singer/artist/bands composers music recorders music mixers music producers music editors music orchestrators music arrangers intended them to experience them

This was a replacement for an older Denon that I had that was only 5:1. This is pushing two Definitive Technology towers that have subs and with the two sub outputs I can maximize my sound. It also can push the extra top speakers on the towers that my old Denon couldn't. It's like having a brand new system with more power. Easy to set up and use and the App is great as well! Kept check Adorama on a regular basis and caught it on sale so even better!

Huge upgrade from last receiver. Sound is much more full and robust! I upgraded speaker with to 14awg and hdmi cables to 2.1 ultra high speed. So far it's the best receiver I've had.

I bought this receiver to replace a problematic Onkyo bought during summer 2019 that developed one bad HDMI input and shuts down with loud scenes that exercised my 5.1.2 speaker setup, among other little problems. The sound signatures of Onkyo vs Denon are very different, the latter being more for my tastes. Compared to the Onkyo I replaced (and to my ears), the AVR-S9720H dialog is much clearer, the receiver does not shutdown when playing loud scenes exercising all channels (i.e. opening scene of Star Wars Episode III), channel separation is way better, and sound is more rounded and crispier. Of course, everyone has its own tastes but for me, no more muffled dialog and a better overall listening experience.

So far everything has gone very smoothly with my new Denson AVR-S970H. It replaced a decade old denon, the AVR 2113. The biggest change IMO is the new UI and support for HDMI 2.1, which my old unit was sorely lacking. Now I can route every device thru the reciever and have 1 HDMI cable going to my LG CX. I just wish this had a front HDMI port.

On average, most avr's only need around 90 watts to power a 5.2/7.2 surround system. This Denon avr-s970h delivers the watts and much more without breaking the bank. It also includes Heos and 8k for future needs. At $399.00 + free s/h, it was a no brainer! Happy Birthday to me!

Excellent sound. Huge upgrade over my previous receiver. It even identified wiring issues. The Audessy mic made a big difference in channnel separation.

The HDMI board on my old Onkyo went out and it was time to upgrade. This receiver is an incredible value when Adorama had it on sale at that price it cannot be beat by far. At the current price I think I would still recommend.

The setup was super easy and straight forward. I bought this to replace an older Yamaha that had e-arc bugs and am not disappointed. Very good sound and lots of options for an entry level receiver.

Works well, no apparent issues with the hardware that I have encountered. Much better than the cheap HTIAB receiver that it replaced. No 4k/HDR hiccups on this like I experienced with the other receiver. A couple of complaints: 1. Did not come with the microphone to calibrate the room (it was supposed to) so I was unable to calibrate. I will have to buy one I guess and they're not cheap. 2. The receiver does not automatically go back to the previously used input. The only source I am using is a PC for now and when I turn everything on it does not default to that source. I had to disable all other sources to get it to work the way I wanted it to. Overall I am happy with the device.

I scoured the internet for days to find my next AV receiver. Considering the features for the price, no other receiver matched the AVR-970H for my budget. As I was upgrading from a 20 year old Yamaha, produced before HDMI was a thing, I really didn't understand how everything was going to work. And the first day with the Denon was rough. Hard learned lesson: Check for a firmware update before you do anything else! After taking the time to set everything up, including figuring out the Input...
