Shockingly sharp across it's range across the frame. Unreal stability

This lens is one I fought getting having all Pro glass in my collection for my OM-1 in a professional setting. I said to myself how would it be possible for a lens with such a significant range be as good as the top Pro glass in the lineup. I just had to try one and oh was I floored. I'm a fanatic for sharpness and good behavior of a lens NOT having CA or any other bad habits. This lens is as close to perfection as most without any bad habits and the bonus of the ultimate walk around range of 24mm to 200mm in FF equivalence. It is so amazingly sharp center to corner across it's range. It does NOT drop off at the long end nor have significant distortion at the wide end. What a pleasure to work with this lens. Not to mention the Image Stabilization on an OM-1 is like having a tripod without the hassles. If you run around much or travel this is one lens you must have.

Lens is a terrific addition and rejuvenated my desire to take pictures.

This lens was as expected. Very sharp, fast focusing, and very flexible to use with my E-M5 III. While it is on the heavier side, not having to bring two lenses out is a bonus. That and the quality of the physical body is very slick. Taking pictures with it has been a bit of an awakening as this is my first Pro lens. The Sync IS definitely lives up to the hype as it is rock solid in use. Overall very please in having this and refreshed my desire to carry the camera with me and take some pictures

I have the lens and it is my standard lens. {leased with it.

Too bad Olympus this lens won't work with the STF-8 flash unit. The flash does not include a 72mm adapter ring to fit this lens.

A Traveling Lense I'll Go To Often

I wanted to augment my E-M1 Mark III for travel, and I did not want to haul a lot of lenses to assault the Bay Area. Wine Country, and even the east coast towns I will soon return to re-explore. These lenses are well built, wide-ranging, and the weather will not be a factor, as I meander over terra firma. From my test shots in the backyard, I am seeing the expansive potential of the lense and I am literally stoked to travel with it. As usual, Olympus does not disappoint here.

I am appreciating the lens a great deal. I am enjoying the leap in reach and not noticing a limitation in f4.

I just switched to Olympus in December and agonized over my first lens. I had already decided on the 100-400, but decided to get a mid range zoom first. I was torn between the 12-40 and the 12-100. I watched and read other comparison reviews and decided that I would like the extra reach, giving up the wider lens opening. I am glad I did choose the 12-100. I have been taking scenic/closeups and the image quality and handling of the lens is great.

A wonderful walking lens for a wonderful camera

I purchased this lens bundled with the OMD M1 Mark 3 for a lighter single lens travel camera. I am so happy that i did as the lens is very sharp and the camera focuses super fast. I also like to take macro and flower photos and this lens focus extremely close so i do not need a macro lens. The trade off is that this lens is F4, but i knew this and on the OMD M1 Mark 3 it is about 1/3 of the weight of my Canon DSLR's with a 70-200 F2.8 and about !/4 of the weight in my camera bag with my other 2 lens that i would normally carry. Loving it.

Great range and image quality

I recently bought this lens as a general purpose and travel lens. It will match up perfectly with the M.Zuiko 100-400 mm f/5-6.3 IS that I have on order. The f/4 constant aperture is a bit slow for my video business but otherwise this is a fantastic lens with excellent image quality, build and handling as you would expect from an M.Zuiko PRO lens.

Olympus 12-100mm works great.

Purchased for my wife’s new G9 because she wanted more focal range in a single lens than my Panasonic Leica 12-60mm f/2.8-4. She loves it.

Versatile and Sharp

Excellent lens. Sharp at all focal lengths and focuses quickly. I love that it allows me to go wide or zoom way in without stopping to change lenses. I am traveling with it and have not yet run into a time I wished I had brought other lenses.

Great all around Pro lens

This is my first pro lens and I absolutely love it! I haven't had a lot of opportunity to shoot with it due to the Rona, but so far the picture quality is fantastic.

Pro quality, added stability makes this worth it.

This lens is packed with features and is a true pro quality lens. The added stabilization in the lens and the focal range makes this a very versatile lens. I have had it on my OMD EM-1 Mark II since I received it.

Believe The Hype

After over two years of reading glowing reviews of this lens I finally decided to buy one and have used mine for over six months. The hype is real. Most super-zooms have many weak spots but not this one, it is a mechanical marvel. Sharp across the range even wide open but that the long end I do stop down a pinch to get the best center and edge sharpness. As a hiker and landscape shooter this lens, along with a wide zoom, is all I need. It also focuses close so good for flowers and butterflies. Combined with my EM1.2 the stabilization is remarkable letting me shoot long exposures handheld for waterfalls with ND filters. A bit big and heavy but the range, IQ, and stabilization more than compensate. Highly recommended!!!

Amazing image quality, just not a perfect fit on my Panasonic bodies.

First off, I shoot with the Panasonic GH5, GH5s and GH4 bodies and have always purchased Panasonic lenses only. However, due to the specs and high ratings on this Olympus lens, I thought it would fit perfectly for my needs. The pros - it is a spectacularly sharp and capable lens. I won't go into the details about the lens because there's plenty of that to read online. But it handles well and my images and videos are tack sharp. I love the focal range and the constant f/4 aperature. Not great for low light, but I bought it only for daylight and decently-lit situations. The cons - well, I'm on my second copy after sending the first one back for a replacement. The first one didn't quite fit my Panasonic bodies perfectly. There was a little play in the rotation of the lens after attaching it (about a mm), so when I'd zoom to each end of the focal lengths and then back, I could feel the slight movement in the rotation. I REALLY hated that. Sadly, my second copy does the SAME thing! Olympus and Panasonic techs were no help with this, so I just kept the second copy. Secondly, the zooming and focusing is the opposite of my Panasonic lenses, so I find myself constantly zooming and focusing in the wrong direction each time. I guess it's going to take some getting used to between my brain and muscle memory. I understand that nothing's perfect, but at least on this lens the image quality sings! It's definitely a keeper.

I shouldn't have waited so long to get a Pro lens

I've had 11 other other lenses. My 12-100 Pro makes an even dozen purchased. I should have purchased this lens sooner but I was trying to find a good lens for less money. The old saying "You get what you pay for" applies to lenses as well. I can now cull down my lens inventory as this lens is remarkable and will be the lens I'll be using 90% of the time. I'll fill in the other 10% with prime lenses for special uses. This 12-100 Pro lens will serve me well for travel and will let me reduce the size of my vacation kit, most likely to this single lens. So glad I took the plunge to a Pro quality lens.

The Must-have lens in your kit

Optically this lens is excellent. The layout of controls is first rate as is the quality of materials. Along with the very useful zoom range, this is a must-have lens. But when you add in the image stabilization and the way it works with OM-D cameras, it become brilliant. If I could have only 1 Olympus lens... this is it.

Travel!

I owned the 12-40 and 40-150 mm PRO lenses, so hesitated to add to the collection, but was persuaded by its obvious popularity. Its first trip, to the Norfolk Botanical Garden's holiday light show and the Outer Banks, led to going along within months to Paris and Tokyo (cherry blossoms), where it proved talented at interiors, HDR, and panoramas. Long hand-held exposures were productive. I had gotten accustomed to high image quality from Olympus zoom lenses, starting with a remarkable 35-100 mm lens from the four-thirds system. The 12-100 lens appeared comparable to my other lenses and definitely added a bit more image stabilization to my O-MD E-M1II. So carrying only one lens, I felt unburdened, especially in Tokyo and Kyoto, where cherry blossoms attracted huge lenses. The compactness paid off once again on a several-day garden tour in the Philadelphia area, where more, or larger equipment would not have fit on a crowded bus, and a tripod forbidden.

Excellent Lens

I was skeptical about the image quality of a zoom lens with this range. My fears were groundless. The sharpness and contrast are exceptional. We are going on a five week trip to Japan and I am going to use this as my walk around lens. The 12-40 is going to my wife. This is a superbly designed and crafted lens.

I like it...

I just made the switch from Canon to Olympus. I looked long and hard at how to best spend my limited resources on something versatile while giving me the best bang for my buck. The 12-100 mm f4 is just that. This lens gives me the equivalent of a 24-200 mm which pretty well puts a check mark in most boxes. Decent for landscapes, great for portraits and quite impressive for everything in between.

Amazing!

By Karen B.

What a piece of glass! Sure, for a 43rds lens it's a bit heavy, but I leave at least one lens at home and my tripod. Yes, the stabilization is that good. I shot waterfalls at 1/4, 1/2 second without camera motion in the picture. OK, not every shot, but getting one out three is good enough for me. I'm going to France next month and plan to make interior photos of cathedrals I could never do before where no tripods are allowed. Oh and image quality. Wow. As good a my Oly 12-40. I replaced my 12-40mm f2.8 Pro with this lens and have no regrets. Yes, it's a bit larger and heavier, and a stop slower, but this baby is great!
