Great lens, hate the zoom ring placement

Only giving 4 stars because the zoom ring is at the end of the lens. Other than that it's a great lens.

The workhorse of my camera bag

This lense renders skin beautifully, yes it's sharp but not prime sharp, which isn't a bad thing. Colors rendition is excellent. The Vibratation control in the lense allowed me to capture a a tack sharp in focus shot at 1/50 of a second handheld zoomed out past 100mm

Love the quality of pictures this lens produces. I can't imagine spending twice that much on a Nikon lens would produce twice the quality.

Overall Great

So far so good! The only negative is how easily the auto focus button gets moved. Sometimes I don?t realize it got moved when I sit it down between shots.

Preferred over Nikon's 70-200

I have been using this lens now for more than 2-years and it has really made a difference in my wedding photography. The lens is built tough, quickly finds focus even in very low light conditions, has wonderful bokeh, and is tack sharp. Stabilization works fantastic, with hand-held shots at 1/15 of a second possible--though try not to do this if possible. Be forewarned though, after 8-12-hours of wedding work, you will feel this lens--this is not a light lens. If there is a challenge that I would suggest being addressed in a future version, I would ask that the three selector switches on the lens barrel be recessed or guarded better to prevent accidental change. The work around is simple, visually check the switch selection by glancing at them when raising the camera up to take a shot.

Well built and Tack Sharp

Having used this lens for a couple of years now, I have found it to be razor sharp and tough as nails. This is not your run of the mill plastic lens. This lens is a well built, all aluminum and glass. No issues with this lens except it is a fuzz slow on focusing but still the best lens of this size for the money. I have and will continue to recommend this lens to anyone who asks and some who dont ask.

Just get it , you won?t regret. Excellent 70-200.

You won?t get a better 70-200 for this price . And it?s better in some ways than the Nikon 70-200

Excellent lens for portraits or weddings

I really wanted this Tamron lens to improve the quality of my photography services and be less intrusive in Liturgical events or just capturing candids. I was not disappointed! The lens captures amazing pictures and opens my flexibility since I can keep my exposure constant at any focal length (70-200mm). It is an excellent addition to any portrait or wedding photographer at less than the price of other brands.

Good birding lens.

This is a great lens, built very robust but not too heavy to carry for long periods. Photos are super sharp and the bokeh is great. Buy it , you will not be disappointed!

No Compromise Mid-Telephoto Zoom.

First off, you should read a proper long form review before making a purchase this large. However, I will say my expectations were greatly surpassed upon receiving this lens. The build quality and feel of the lens is fantastic. Coming from a 400g zoom, the increased bulk of this lens was not actually that big of a deal. The lens is front heavy, but the balance point is well place, allowing for easy access of the focus ring and switches. Accessing the zoom ring is less ideal. The image stabilization is highly effective and utterly silent. It doesn't quite hit the claimed 5 stops of assistance, even in mode 3. However, I have hand tremors, so getting a comfortable 4 stops of IS is impressive nonetheless. Autofocus isn't as fast or quiet as Canon's USM, but it's close. Accuracy and confidence are not an issue. Manually focusing this lens is surprisingly nice at f/2.8 thanks to the smooth focus ring and longer then average focus throw. Though I've yet to find a situation where'd you want to manually focus when you have access to such an effective AF system. Sharpness is incredible, even on a 24 MP APS-C body there really isn't much point in stopping down. My copy of the lens is also just as sharp at 200mm as it is at every other focal length, in stark contrast to what's found in reviews. Either Tamron made some adjustments in the past few years or I just got a golden copy. On a similar note, bokeh is incredibly soft, with no outlining or concentric rings to speak off, it's near perfect. I haven't used the Canon or Nikon versions, but besides slightly faster and quieter autofocus I really fail to see what would justify paying double over this lens. It's built like a tank, and functions beautifully. Just don't go into it thinking have such a nice lens will automatically make you take better pictures. If you don't specifically require the action stopping shutter speeds and shallow depth of field this lens offers, you are wasting your money. Get a cheaper F/4 zoom instead.

Excellent lens with a couple minor inconveniences

Excellent image quality and good autofocus on my Canon 5D Mark III. It's very sharp, I really love this lens. I updated from the old Tamron 70-200. Just 2 things that bug me - 1. The switches are really easy to accidentally hit and move, especially if you carry it on a crossbody strap or holdfast harness like I do. It bumps up against my leg and moves the switches. A few times I've missed a shot at a wedding because it had switched to manual focus accidentally. If I carry it on the left side of my body it reduces the accidental hits, but still happens sometimes. I "fixed" this by putting some velcro straps around the lens over the switches so they can't move (you can also use gaffer's tape). 2. This is a personal preference, but I liked how the zoom ring on the old model was near the back of the lens (closer to the camera). This model it's near the front of the lens (reversing the place of the focus ring and zoom ring). It's a bit awkward for my hands to reach to the front of the lens to zoom. It's taken quite a while to get used to.

Not quite a Nikon but good picture quality.

I got this lens because i could not get the Nikon one before my trip to Iceland in July. It worked very well, but the focus ring and the zoom ring are in the "wrong" place if you are used to the Nikon model and the buttons on the lens barrel change position easily without notice.

Excellent value!

This is a fantastic lens. It?s sharp and acquires focus fairly fast. My only complaint is how easy it is to bump the vibration control (VC) switch. I have accidentally turned this off while walking. Keeps an eye on the switch to ensure your images are tack sharp.

Sharp, fast lens for a good price

This is probably my favorite Tamron lens. I use it frequently on my Nikon D500 camera. It has lightning fast focus and is very sharp throughout the range from 70-200mm.

This lens is amazing!!

By Chris B.

I am not a professional, but I have used a variety of lenses before. The VC on this lens is unparalleled. I can comfortably take sharp photos at 200mm with 1/5 shutter speed. You look through the viewfinder, half press that shutter button, and the frame just locks in place. It's amazing. That alone would make this lens worth the cost, but honestly it's just a beautiful piece of equipment that I trust I will have for years to come.

Expand your image of fast telephoto shooting

The new SP70-200mm F/2.8 G2 (Model A025) telephoto lens reimagines the highly acclaimed Model A009 with enhanced optical performance, improved VC (Vibration Compensation), faster AF speed and accuracy, and shortened MOD (Minimum Object Distance) for greater flexibility. What’s more, compatibility with Tamron tele converters provides additional focal length.

In keeping with the SP series’ innovative technology, the lens is designed to be durable, flexible and resilient enough to rise to any occasion.

High resolution meets bokeh

Every aspect of the SP 70-200mm F/2.8 G2 (Model A025) zoom has been improved, providing high image quality and enhanced bokeh throughout. Optical design features include XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and LD (Low Dispersion) glass to eliminate chromatic aberrations across the entire zoom range, ensuring optimum resolution— even at the edges. eBAND Coating designed exclusively for this new zoom offers superior anti- reflection properties, greatly minimizing flare and ghosting. And refined bokeh provides spectacular background effects from nearly any angle.

MOD reduced to 0.95m

Improvements to the new SP 70-200mm F/2.8 G2 extend well into the lens barrel. Tamron has reduced the MOD from 1.3m (50.7 in) in our older model to 0.95m (37.4 in), allowing a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6.1. The shorter MOD, coupled with the superb optical performance of this new zoom, allows you to significantly broaden your range of expression.

Accuracy in action

The USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) ring-type motor, along with two high-performance microcomputers, ensures excellent focusing speed and accuracy. The Full-time Manual Focus override allows you to make fine adjustments while using AF, without having to switch from AF to MF mode.

Keep it steady

Tamron’s best-in-class VC* image stabilization performance is equivalent to 5 stops**, according to CIPA standards. Plus, this lens offers a choice of three VC modes, including one exclusively for panning. Now you can match the VC mode to your shooting conditions and enjoy sharp, jitter-free handheld shooting—even in low light.

Intuitive design

In keeping with the SP series' “Human Touch” design, the A025 is both durably built and user friendly. The focus and zoom rings, textured grip and Arca-Swiss style tripod interface enhance speed and utility. And like all SP models, this new lens has an ergonomic shape for easy gripping and a lens hood with smooth curves that match the barrel.

Intuitive design and leading-edge performance

A removable rotating tripod collar features an Arca-type compatible foot and benefits working with the lens atop a tripod or monopod.
