While a long time photographer, I am a newbie diver. I did not want to put any of my SLRs in an underwater case so I chose the Olympus TG-5 Tough in combination with the PT-058 case. This is a fabulous pairing; the case is easy to open and close, comes with a lens ring that seals the camera lens to the case glass, has a screen hood that is essential at shallower depths. The controls work seamlessly; even the multi select which while closely spaced are vertically staggered making them very accessible. There is adequate space to fit two or more silica gel packs (it comes with 5). The camera flash illuminates through a diffuser in the case and is fully capable of taking near to close photos. A separate external flash coupler snaps over the diffuser and has two ports and two rubber plugs, one to close off either one that is not in use and a spare. The only con I can think of is it is not a rig to be used with gloved hands.

The housing is comfortable to hold with one hand. The buttons are easy to use to select to switch from normal to macro. I like the lever instead of a shutter button, it is easier to find the focused pressure and doesn't shake the camera doing macro photos.

The ultra-rugged Olympus Tough TG-5 camera is waterproof up to depths of 50 feet (15 meters) without a protective case or housing. If you're a diver looking to explore deeper depths, the customized PT-058 Underwater Housing is for you.
Waterproof to depths of 147 feet (45 meters)
All camera functions may be controlled while underwater
Detachable hood for the LCD monitor
Screw mount for optional converter lenses and filters
Standard tripod socket permits attachment of third party lighting tray
Clear back for easy water penetration detection
The compact PT-058 underwater case is waterproof down to 147 feet (45 meters) and the perfect tool to discover the world found below the water's surface with your TG-5. With its durable, high quality polycarbonate construction, it protects the camera from water while also cushioning it from knocks and bumps on land. The super bright 25-100mm lens of the TG-5 has a 1:2.0 maximum aperture at wide zoom settings for colorful, low noise shots underwater.
There are special modes for divers available: Underwater Wide, Underwater Macro, Underwater HDR or Underwater Snapshot. And for all fans of macro shots the TG-5 has an advanced, four mode variable Macro system, with Microscope, Microscope Control, Focus Bracketing and Focus Stacking Mode.
The PT-058 is easy to handle and offers access to all camera functions. There is an optical connection available to control external underwater flashes such as the UFL-3 with the camera. The screw mount enables the attachment of underwater converters.
