This is THE lens for night-sky photography

For almost any wide-angle shots, my go-to lens is the Canon RF 15-35 f/2.8. But where I really need the extra 1-1/3 stops of light are for night-sky photography: if I want to keep my shutter speed at 15 sec or faster for sharp definition, the f/2.8 lens pushes the ISO to 8,000 and sensor noise becomes unacceptable. With the Sigma 14mm f/1.8, I can shoot at ISO 3,200 and get much better results. It seems rather expensive until you search for alternatives - what else is there in a Canon-compatible full-frame format wider than 20 mm that opens up to f/1.8 or better? Maybe a few esoteric Cine lenses at 5X the price. Yes it is very heavy - not a walking-around lens, especially extended-out on a EF-RF adapter on an R5 body. The only plus-side of using the EF-RF adapter is that, if you want to use polarizing or ND filters, it is easy using the Canon adapter with drop-in filter holder - that works great! Some reviewers have commented on autofocus issues with various cameras. I have not experienced any issues with the R5, but I mostly use it tripod-mounted, manually focused. For the uncropped photo attached, I did stop it down slightly to f/2. The stars are sharp across the entire image, with some minor coma in the corners. Overall, I am very impressed with the optical and build quality of the lens - feels as good as any high-end L lens from Canon. The images I am getting are better than anything else I have tried, and I am very happy with the results.

Catch the Milky Way AND Foreground in dark places

First the picture is wrong, it is longer and like everyone says yes it is heavy. That said for Night and Milky Way this lens and the SEL1224G f/4 and SEL1635 f/4 (can not afford the f/2.8). I found out in 2014 my A7S was perfect for Milky Way shots and the lens to use was the Rokinon 14 f/2.8, yea got lots of light BUT the star trails and coma in the upper corners everyone lived with, I got every model and all had the same problem, even at f/4. I have used the NPF rule since it came to be known and this lens at 6.68 sec. (7 sec.) captures the light BUT when you need more even a 30 second shot no star trailing or coma (well at 200x yes star trailing). Admitted by pros they work hours to rid star trailing. I shoot dark sky over the ocean in Florida and Georgia coast in lt parking lots and lit buildings as foreground in aperture mode because of the bright lights but the sky is so dark even over the Gulf of Mexico from Florida's forgotten coast St. George Island to New Orleans coast it is all dark sky. This makes the forth lens I love, the third before there were night lenses the SEL1018 f/4 in full frame mode at 12mm is as good as they come if used at NPF rule. This lens and the sony lenses are kept in a fire/water proof safe at home and in by Pelican when out, I cherish this lens that much. just remember the NPF rule and use the A7M3/A7RM2 soon the A7SM3 never too dark for this lens. Need I say needle point stars and perfect sky colors and no soft places (that I could see). So much good glass it has to be heavy!!!

No star trails at NPF rules

First it is bigger than the picture and is heavy, lots of glass and metal build; but sat on a ball head without a problem. Went out to a light polluted area and shot some Milky Way captures using the PhotoPills Spot Stars both accurate 7 sec. (6.68 sec.) and default 13 sec. (13.36 sec.) NPF rule using A7M3. At f/1.8 and default hard pressed to see a star trail at sides/top at 200X and corners are sharp, and upper maybe one or two coma stars (but you have to look (hard). Did two two roll panos at 180 degrees 20 images each. The rainbow was awesome.Color using 3900 temp was perfect. Yes worth the price and weight. It gathers the light, Night Vision.

Nice glass but heavy, large and some coma issues

It's a nice looking piece of glass. The design is beautiful and it measures up to the ART name. It's also wonderful to have such a fast lens in such a wide focal length. That said, as expected, there are some tradeoffs. It's heavy. It's huge. It probably should have come with a tripod collar. And, it has some very apparent coma issues. I didn't expect it to be perfect but after the reviews, I thought it would be better than it is. Even stopped down a bit I had some "stretchy" stars going on in the corners which started about 50% out from center. It's no where near as bad as the 20mm f/1.4 ART lens. But it's far from perfect too.

Great addition to your glass

When Nikon came out with their 15mm to fisheye zoom I thought that it would answer my needs but I was wrong. I then turned to this lens and what a great addition to my photography. Its heavy, but the weight is worth the quality of shots I can get. I have a Sigma 15mm f2.8 lens but this one really is top of the line at 14mm f1.8. I do a lot of shooting in cathedrals, churches and architecture. The 1.8 makes a big difference and the quality is amazing. This is my new favorite lens. All the goodies just make it a little sweeter.

Impressive Build Quality and Superior Low Light Performance

Received this lense from Adorama after reading multiple reviews and articles about this lense. Needless to say it lives up to everything I've heard - impressive solid build quality, accessory/packaging cover, and great low light performance. Highly recommended.

Severely front focused

The build quality is nice. But the lens is severely front focused. Even I adjust it to +20 it is still front focused. Returned it and got another one.
